  1. Memories.... what time of day was it...? *Flicker, flicker, flicker....* the blurr... the sun weakly shining through the barrack windows.... was it time yet? *Flicker, flicker, flicker....* A memory, a fight, no, something more.. an ambush! Who were the people? Looking closely I seem to recall faces, no matter how blurry they are shown. Gerek.... Dael, names come as quickly as the picture in my mind shows the ambush at its climax. A fight breaks out, the guards surprised at the sudden volley of barbed arrows, the throwing of spears, and the poison of the darts.... Screams echo throug
  2. source taken from UO Europa I'm getting an out of memory error on all three of my computers since the last patch...All of the computers are older, but I've bever had a problem before...anyone else getting this error? The patch went fine, then when it goes toload the software I get the error... I hope I don't have to upgrade to continue to play the game. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jeremy_EAMythic UO Community Coordinator FYI, folks, we have engineers looking into this now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  3. You may know that Windows XP is not the best operating system when it comes to memory management. People often resort to restarting the computer, in order to clear certain areas of the memory. This however is not necessary. With just a minutes worth of time, you can create a shortcut, that will save time, and headaches. Simple follow the following instructions, and execute your new shortcut when you’re computer is feeling groggy on the memory side of things. Right click on desktop, New -> Shortcut Copy/paste this piece of code in the location box: %windir%\system32\rundll32.exe advapi32.dl
  4. Handheld gadgets storing thousands of hours of film footage could soon be a reality thanks to IBM scientists. Researchers for the computer giant are working on a technology known as racetrack memory which uses tiny magnetic boundaries to store data. In a paper in the journal Science, the team at IBM's Almaden lab in California outline ways to make the building blocks of the novel storage medium. The capacity of MP3 players could increase 100 times from present levels. But the IBM team say racetrack memory is still seven to eight years away from commercial use. Full story here
  5. Finally got around to ordering some new ram for both mine and wifes comps. Question is i have matched set of two 512 sticks in each and have ordered matched sets of 1 gig each for each comp which theoretically would give me 3 gigs in each comp. Yes both boards can hold 4 sticks and both boards support at least 4 gigs. Should I keep the 512 sticks in or just use the 1 gig sticks. My fear is that having two sets of sticks will cause more conflict issues than the advantage I will gain having 3 gigs over 2 gigs. Any advice is appreciated
  6. In Memoriam: Gary Gygax Blizzard Entertainment would like to dedicate the patch in memory of Gary Gygax. His work on D&D was an inspiration to us in many ways and helped spark our passion for creating games of our own. As avid D&D players and fellow game developers, we were all saddened by the news of his passing; we feel we’ve lost a true adventuring companion. Thanks for everything and farewell, Gary. You will be missed. The Sunwell Isle The Sunwell Isle is now available for play. This area includes a new quest hub and 5-player and 25-player instances. Join the Shattered Sun Offe
  7. This year’s Summer Festival was a very special one, as attendees gathered together at the bank in Zento and prepared to enjoy the day by receiving a Tokuno basket filled with special clothing made by Santa and the Tokuno Festival tailor. In addition to the summer clothes the festival goers also received a pre-charged runebook filled with event locations, a schedule of events, an origami, and of course, cookies and milk! First stop was at Santa’s Waterpark where pillows were provided to help cushion bums while sliding down the steep waterfall. After a few turns down the slide participants rec

  10. source Ok, this situation is really bugging me and , as yet, I have been unable to get an satisfactory explanation. Why Does KR chew up so much Memory?? Here's a Comparison pic, showing my system running KR, Oblivion, 3DMark06, Dark Crusade and the enemy, World of Warcraft......why is it that KR wants 3 times the memory usage as any of them, and 5 times the demand of WoW? I ran the full benchmarking test with 3dMark06, ran WoW for over an hour, Oblivion and Darkcrusade around 40 minutes each and you can see the Peak memory usage. KR I ran for about 20 minutes, just running around
  11. source I am really curious when and if the memory leak in KR will be fixed. I think I may have the answer, and perhaps it is never. Why? I think EA Mythic would have fixed it by now. I think the KR game engine memory leaks cannot be fixed without re-writing the whole engine from scratch - at least it appears this maybe the case. If this is true, it is indeed a sad day for some of us. I have a dual core processor running at 2.40GHz with a Geforce 7900 GT video card, 2 GB of memory and I am running Windows XP. This is a fine-tuned, perfectly solid gaming system with no issues whatsoever. Aft
  12. [Found some interesting info here ,that may help some folk.myself included..tabby ] source Ok, I couldn't help but notice, as I can now play KR with a machine well capable of running it, that the Memory Usage, according to Task Manager Processes info, seems to climb endlessly the longer you run the client. The following pics show the Memory used from logging in to KR and simply running around the place and recalling into a couple of dungeons, Heartwood, Ilshenar Oakes spawn etc. I wasn't fighting anything, just taking screenies every few minutes. These were taken over approximately 25 m
  13. source taken from UO U.Hall Greetings, I have brought this topic up in other threads in U.Hall in the past, but usually the Threads have initially been about other things or the Graphics in general, so this issue has been lost and never gotten any attiention from the Dev's it seems. Probably because they missed it in the "storm" of threads that is about KR: About KR and the Memory/Eating up the CPU usage problem. Maybe this will help The Dev's search for and Pin-Point the problem. Maybe Contact the Developers of Civ IV so You don't have to research things they already have tried that

  15. The daemon's touch burned in Adam's memory, behind his eyes, drunk on beauty and desire. He could almost remember how those days had been, colors bright as the sun, flavors like a slice of steel across his tongue, wine the soothing sea of seasons, fragrant with promise and history. Adam walked beside Alraune, westward along the street beside the Anchor, toward the gate, but his soul walked another path in another place, hunting. Screams echoed from the park and resonated between the water and the bridge. He remembered frightened faces, pounding feet, the black horse with bloody teeth. Se
  16. Adam folded the two letters from Commander Soulshadow and tucked them away in the chest. For a moment, the room around him blurred. Instead of the old Poste Office where he and Alraune made their home now, Adam saw the high ceilings and gray stone walls of the Tower of Dreams, beyond immeasurable distances of time and dimension, a place that might not to exist at all, save as a memory, and what was a memory but a waking dream? In his new conviction to have no convictions, to be a leaf upon the flow of life’s river, Adam had given up his quest for knowledge of the daemon Charnadis and, now,

  18. I've been getting a message here on my work comp that the virtual memory is getting low. What's that mean? And what am I supposed to do? Hate calling the help desk here since it's all the way in Winnipeg. And they're usually busy.
  19. Nice 'Magnetic memory' chip unveiled The microchip business is worth $48 billion (£30 billion) a year A microchip which can store information like a hard drive has been unveiled by US company Freescale. The chip, called magnetoresistive random-access memory (Mram), maintains data by relying on magnetic properties rather than an electrical charge. One analyst told the Associated Press news agency that the chip was the most significant development in computer memory for a decade. Mram chips could find their way into many different electronic devices. The benefit of Mram c
