| a bunch of newbie questions | | Sorry if this is to many newbie questions, as I have been play for about a month. One of things of this game that intrigues me is Character development. 1st an easy question Do you get artifacts from killing Paragons? So far the extent of my exploring/hunting has been in Ish, yet upon returning home and clearing out my bags I discovered the gloves of the pugilist. I have no idea how it got there are I am sure I would have noticed it as I was looting corpses. 2nd question, It is my understanding I need to fight the “opposite” to get certain slayer weapons. I am currently on a self quest to get an undead/silver slayer to recoup several items and gold off of liches. Which monsters would give me the best chance to get an Undead/silver slayer (I have tried Cyclops and Titans), it appears to me that most monster seem to hate spiders and scorpions as I have a ton of those slayers. (if you are playing on Sonoma and have an undead Slayer bow you wish to get rid of let me know (cheaply of course)) 3rd This is far off in the future when I get 120 music/peace. a. It is my understanding that I get bonus for being at 120 music that will help with peacing monsters. b. It also my understanding that using a slayer instrument will give you a bonus Do the two bonuses stack? With 120 music/peace and the appropriate slay instrument what is the probability to peace a Paragon Blood Elemental? Is it even possible (Right now It says I have no chance) And related to this question…is there a timer on paragons, to be honest if one pops up, I am basically forced to move. 4th question, wasn’t sure how to ask so I listed what I plan to do. Say for instance my real unmodified skill are Archery 100 Tactics 95 Anatomy 105 Peace 120 Music 120 Healing 100 Total points used 640 So I am thinking of raising another skill to 60 (Like Focus) So that uses up my 700 skill points. Now say I have 120 skill points available for all my active skills. And Say I am wearing +20 Hunter head dress +12 Tactics Arms +13 Tactics Bracelet +15 Anatomy Ring Will my effective skills be? Archery 120 Tactics 120 Anatomy 120 Peace 120 Music 120 Healing 100 Focus 60 Essentially using 760 skill points. Is there a benefit to having skill be real vs. modified with rings and bracelets. I.E. Do I do more damage if tactics is a real 120 vs. 120 using equipment. Thanks in advance |

Sorry if this is to many newbie questions, as I have been play for about a month.
One of things of this game that intrigues me is Character development.
1st an easy question
Do you get artifacts from killing Paragons?
So far the extent of my exploring/hunting has been in Ish, yet upon returning home and clearing out my bags I discovered the gloves of the pugilist. I have no idea how it got there are I am sure I would have noticed it as I was looting corpses. Yes, they have a low chance of dropping into your pack.
(if you are playing on Sonoma and have an undead Slayer bow you wish to get rid of let me know (cheaply of course)) The opposite of undead is Repond, which consists of things like orcs, trolls, cyclopean warriors, titans, and ogres.
3rd This is far off in the future when I get 120 music/peace.
a. It is my understanding that I get bonus for being at 120 music that will help with peacing monsters.
b. It also my understanding that using a slayer instrument will give you a bonus
Do the two bonuses stack?
With 120 music/peace and the appropriate slay instrument what is the probability to peace a Paragon Blood Elemental? Is it even possible (Right now It says I have no chance)
And related to this question…is there a timer on paragons, to be honest if one pops up, I am basically forced to move. Yes, barding difficulty bonuses stack. 20% for a slayer instrument (penalty for using it against it's opposite grouping!) and bonus based on musicianship skill over 100.
4th question, wasn’t sure how to ask so I listed what I plan to do.
Say for instance my real unmodified skill are
Archery 100
Tactics 95
Anatomy 105
Peace 120
Music 120
Healing 100
Total points used 640
So I am thinking of raising another skill to 60 (Like Focus)
So that uses up my 700 skill points.
Now say I have 120 skill points available for all my active skills.
And Say I am wearing
+20 Hunter head dress
+12 Tactics Arms
+13 Tactics Bracelet
+15 Anatomy Ring
Will my effective skills be?
Archery 120
Tactics 120
Anatomy 120
Peace 120
Music 120
Healing 100
Focus 60
Essentially using 760 skill points.
Is there a benefit to having skill be real vs. modified with rings and bracelets. I.E. Do I do more damage if tactics is a real 120 vs. 120 using equipment. Correct. You can't go over your individual cap with +skill items however. So if you wear a +20 archery hat, any training of archery past 100 is 'wasted' as your archery would never be higher than 120.
Thanks in advance

Also if you are looking for an undead slayer bow, I suggest Mischief Maker. It's usually cheap-ish.

Hey Fizzle -
I see most of your questions have been answered already by experts
There's just a tweak I'd offer on one of them:
"2nd question, It is my understanding I need to fight the “opposite” to get certain slayer weapons. I am currently on a self quest to get an undead/silver slayer to recoup several items and gold off of liches. Which monsters would give me the best chance to get an Undead/silver slayer (I have tried Cyclops and Titans), it appears to me that most monster seem to hate spiders and scorpions as I have a ton of those slayers." Now as far as I know, any monster has a small chance of dropping an undead slayer weapon, not just monsters from the opposing slayer group. (Silver weapons were the antique form of the current undead slayers. Unfortunately that tag - "silver" - no longer shows.) Someone else? Am I wrong about this?
As of the last expansion, we have a new skill, imbuing, which allows players to choose and add their own custom modifications to armor and weapons, including the undead slayer mod. Since imbuing's introduction, we don't need to find slayer weapons as random drops; we can just craft them with imbuing! Neat huh.
Give a shout on these boards if we can help with anything else. |

It doe snot matter which creature you kill any/all can have any type of slayer on them. Only thing that matters is the fame of the creature, higher fame level of creature is a greater chance of getting a slayer because they have a better roll on the loot table when they are generated. For example it is easier to get a slayer weapon off a liche than to get one off a normal ratman.
welcome to UO

Easiest way to get a slayer these days is to have one imbued, though not as easy if you don't know an imbuer =/

Thanks for the replies.
I will have to look into imbuing. I am in a better position to work on crafting skills now that I have a house and gold is a little eaiser to come by.

Also whatever you do (120 music and slayer instrument) you'll never be able to calm some monsters like peerless or any that has 160 barding difficulty.
At least, even if you succeed it wont last more than a second if that. The area peace will work though.
