Re: How current management is killing Ultima Online
Honestly... the devs don't really post very much on Stratics, certainly not like they used to. The problem is that when they do post (as little as that is), Stratics is the only place they are posting. The rest of the UO community has been cutoff from communications. The DAoC and WAR community are still getting some communications, but also not nearly what they used to... and those communities are complaining about the lack of communications too.
The team at Mythic is simply going through the motions of what is minimally required. Mythic shows all the classic signs of a company tying up loose ends because they know that the hand writing is on the wall... Mythic won't survive to see 2011.

Re: How current management is killing Ultima Online
I'm sceptical as well, seems a fair few of the staff were booted, even the communications director has gone.
It wasn't that long ago when Jacobs claimed EA wanted UO shut down, but he managed to convince them to keep it going
He's since left/been fired and times are bad for EA, especially with their share prices taking yet another drop, despite the cut backs, I wonder how long UO truly has left.

I guess I should have my crafter make me some "For Sale" signs for my 4 accounts?

If Mythic is still in business come January 1st of 2011... I'll send you a T-shirt. Hold me to it!
Mythic is a shadow of it's former self and is falling apart at the seams, they know it... EA knows it. Watch how this show season goes and how many times Mythic has booths. If you see Mythic with a presence this year good for them, there is hope... but watch if you see a slight of hand hearing all about BioWare, Epic, EA Sports, Phenomic, Visceral, etc. but Mythic is seemingly missing. Mythic is still bleeding employees, the big public layoffs a year ago and a few months ago... there are been more since that are being kept quiet, some are leaving of there own accord.
I hope I'm wrong (jeez, please let me be wrong), but I doubt I am.
I could see DAoC, UO and WAR possibly being rolled over to other studios... maybe, I don't know. But I bet some at EARS already does.

Re: How current management is killing Ultima Online
My guess would be the online division gets under the leadership of Bioware?
Mythic though seems to go the way Origin did, assimilated into the company and forgotten.
And the fate of UO, DAoC and now even WAR depends if EA still wants marketshare or only trusts in the new Star Wars MMO.

Re: How current management is killing Ultima Online
They closed EARS years ago, My best guess is that mythic will be turned over to bioware (and unitl EA bought them out, they knew how to treat a community) Much like once EA bought out mythic the reorganized and fired people and created EAMythic. now that is being broken up again and I would no shock me to see around july (say july because gives them time to iron out all of bioshock 2s bugs) EA announce the fromation of EABioware to run their online division. We will get a statement about how happy they(bioware) are to be put in charge and that they have great plans for DAoC, UO, and WAR and there yet to be announced mmo (which they are working on as I type this), just wait and see.
And I will type I heard it 3 times before, pm me when you actually want to talk with the community or heck give me a job.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment

Re: How current management is killing Ultima Online
I think they should look long and hard at their MMO properties and consider some drastic changes.
UO: Free to Play. With the rampant RMT that goes on, EA should simply join in. Free to play, but you go microtransactions in place of a subscription. It revived DDO and they went from considering merging it into one server...to adding more to handle the added demand.
WAR: Rework it. Take out all that annoying PVM and make it a PvP game. Go whole hog. Loot your kills, but make serviceable gear easy to obtain, while making the best gear less powerful, so that it isnt necessary to compete in PvP. WAR's problem is "Jack of all Trades master of None" but its PVP is surely the most fun part about it - capitalize on this.
