This seems to be the flavor of the month template. And as I got a surplus necro-mage on my second account that I hardly ever play, I thought I'd give it a whirl. But unfortunalety I have no clue how that template looks skill- and stat-wise.

So if someone would be so kind to post a template and maybe a few tipps on how to play it, I'd be very grateful.

Playing on Drachenfels? Speaking German? Tired of exploring Sosaria alone?

Bushido/parry/mage/med/EI/other skill (inscription, resist, spellweaving, wrestling)
All skills pretty much maxxed out.

Advantage: Archers probably can't kill you if you're halfway decent.
Disadvantage: Lacking good curses and pain spikes, you may have trouble killing anyone else.

When I tried it (long time ago), I found great survivability in nearly any situation, but I couldn't do anything to them. On the other hand, I've always been a bad PvP mage and never maxxed out a magery skill.

My stats were 60 dex (plus blue potions to make parry effective) with the rest split evenly between strength and intelligence.

Tips:
Evasion when dismounted can often give you time to remount. Same with ganks, when you know one is starting, evasion.

Mage weapon can give you a free hand for chugging and gives you all the benifits of other skills.

While it's great against archery, it isn't so perfect against magic using people. Pick your targets well!

And um... I'm sure someone who actually has magic talent can fill you in on the rest.

When Bush parry mages was new, it was also one of those FOTM templates on EU shard.

I played some with a mage like that but didnt like it that much. Also played against plenty of those templates.

As Farsight said, You will have great survivalabilities but it takes more of you as a player to kill someone.
It depends alot on your playstyle. If you mostly play in a team, then give it a whirl.. but if you solo alot. I wouldnt recommend it. But thats my opinions.

unless something has changed i believe you need 80 dex for parry to be effective. I also believe you have to have low magery for bushido/parry to work due to a nerf awhile back.

To truly understand something, change it.

It's definately 80 dex to parry, as I have a wrestle/parry mage for the same purpose. I use enhance pots to stay above 80 dex.

Ok, thanks for the advise.

How do I use Bushido in this template? Solely for Evasion and Confidence?

Playing on Drachenfels? Speaking German? Tired of exploring Sosaria alone?

Mirror images as well. I don't run a bush mage, but a friend does. A mirror image or three can buy you time to get remounted after a dismount gank.

Mirrors are a ninja skill, not bushido.

And yes, confidence, evasion and parry with weapon are your prime skills as a bushido/parry mage.

You can also disarm archers from a distance using counter attack, but in my limited bushido/mage time I never quite got that timing down right.

Im not possitive on the logistics of it but i am fairly sure you need swords (fighting skill) for bushido...so

120 swords
120 bushido
120 parry
65 magery
120 eval
<insert skills here>

80 dex

This will allow for you to use bushido specials with the weapon...IE nerve strike. You will need tactics if you want other specials. The 80 dex is a requirement for parry to be effective...which means lower str and int. This is basically a pure defense spec.

The biggest issue with this spec is that if a dexer can disarm you...you lose all the defense with no offense. Basically you can still run away using confidence but if they disarm bleed and say...switch to a bow and running shot. You will be left with little options.

A slightly better option might be parry/wrestle mage. this would leave room for inscribe or poisoning giving you a much better offense and really no downside to a disarm archer. If they disarm your shield...you still have wrestling at 120 to counter the dexer and you then are just a regular mage. Coupled with 60 DCI this is pretty much the best you can do against a dexer. Wrestling allow for you to disarm the dexer...no damage and para blow if someone is running from a gank and you need to get them to stop so someone can dismount...you can throw bolas when you are on the ground.

Popular survival template is:
120 wrestle
120 parry
120 mage
120 eval
120 resist
100+ ninja - so you can animal form if dismounted

This also allows you to stay on foot, switch out of form...bola and form when you can or just remount...it is all preference. Confidence is nice on a mage since it gives you a running heal. Evasion is on a timer and while it can thwart a dump...so can just running from it.

Edit:
People in my guild also run the above template without ninja or wrestling and just use parry. They have great results against dexers.

To truly understand something, change it.
