As I do not have an account at Stratics, could one of you kind folks copy this to their developer forum? If you do, please post a link to the thread so I can follow the responses (I don't even know where on Stratics the dev forum *IS*). Thank you! :)

Well, we all know about the recent horrendous loss of life in Haiti. I was wondering about what *I* could do, personally, and it is very little.

I was thinking it might be nice for EA to do a real-world community service by offering certain UO items on the UOGameCodes store, with the proceeds going to help Haiti (or any tragic event as it might occur in the future).

I am not (necessarily) talking about creating a NEW item - and all the programming headache that goes with it. Instead, offer a Heritage Token (not currently available, as far as I know - but this is only an example) for $10, with those proceeds going to Doctors Without Borders (or any aid organization, but whichever one, it should be stated up front for the buyer). Perhaps include with the Heritage Token a shirt embroidered with "I helped support Haiti & Doctors Without Borders, 2010".

Yes, $10US is more than a Heritage Token is worth (I think), but that is not the point - You donate, and you get a neat in-game item as a thank you. Heck, even the Shirt would be fine with me. Maybe take an existing painting and re-label it "A painting of Haiti".

The offer would be limited to say... six months? After that time the offer would be withdrawn until the next major tragedy, with a new shirt/painting+token combo (or whatever they might come up with).

I believe this would be great public relations for EA & UO, and it would be something that we as a community could be proud of supporting.

Thank you for your time!

P.S. Perhaps, if the item offered happened to be non-deco & 'powerful' (say a 3.0 SoT of choice), then each credit/debit card number could only buy the Charity Item once, to prevent market flooding - though at $10US it might not be profitable to do it anyway - something for the smarter-than-me people to work out.

Great ideas, minimal effort really on the EA-side, system is there, they just have to add some text strings.

The minimal effort thing is what I was really going for - I am all for the Dev's making something new and cool, but I wanted something simple - and therefore quick - to get things rolling. If they wanted to create something super-new for the next time, great, but let's help now, if we can do it at all...

I remember years ago we did an auction/charity fundraiser for Katrina Victims. Perhaps you could find an auction house on a busy shard willing to do it?

Hrm, but how would the finances be worked out? In any case, the idea I've described would benefit EA/UO as well as victims, plus it is a little more secure than trusting an unknown element to turn over collected funds...

Please tell me more about the Katrina auction, or if you have a linky...

Gosh it's been awhile.

I know that I Shadowlands Auctionhouse and maybe YGV helped host it? I'm not sure if Airmid would have the info or not.

Just something I'd toss out there for food for thought. I'll ask around and see if I can find info.

Awesome! Thank you! I don't have the time or know-how to set up an auction event, and withe the price of game gold falling, EA selling stuff might bring in more money across all shards...
