Standard bard templates:
120 music
120 provoke
120 discord
120 peacemaking
120 magery
120 meditation

Spellweaving bard
120 music
120 provoke
120 discord
120 magery
120 meditation
120 spellweaving

Archer/bard
120 music
120 discord or provoke
120 archery
120 tactics
90 healing
90 anatomy
60 chivalry

Tamer/bard
120 music
120 peacemaking or discord
120 taming
120 lore
120 vet
120 magery
Note: On this template, it could be wise to lower the taming skills to add in some meditation.

Necro-bard
100 music
100 peacemaking
105 necromancy
100 spirit speak (or 120)
110 magery
120 Evaluate Intelligence (or 100)
85 meditation
Note: most of the numbers are flexible on this one. The idea is wither/area peace repeatedly through thick spawns. To my knowledge, it's the only necromancer template which can survive alone in the Oaks champion spawn.

The keys to a good bard is to have 120 musicianship and 120 in the chosen bard skills. Due to the insanely high barding difficulty of most high end creatures, 115 isn't enough much of the time. The only exception is if you have peacemaking only, in which case 100 peace covers most situations nicely (you can peace tame anything up to a cu sidhe with 100 peace).

If you want the full bard package, then you only wind up with a 240 skill points left after your training is done, therefore magery/meditation is almost a must.

Is it wise to have a Bard/Warrior or is it always best to be Bard/Mage?

Bard warriors could work, but are often not very effective.

The reason for this is that with bard skills, you can take up less of the effective melee skills.

weapon, tactics, anatomy, healing
that is about 400 points on your basic warrior template
bard skills take up about 300 points and voila, you are at your 700 point total

With such a template, you would be buggered against high end monsters as you are missing out on all the nifty combat enhancement skills such as bushido, parry, chivalry or focus. This would mean you will have a hard time inflicting proper damage and keeping yourself healed.

Additionally, warriors rely on special moves (intelligence), fast healing and hitting (dexterity) as well as high hitpoints and base damage (strength). Without any other healing ability than bandages and poitions, it is almost mandatory to have 120 dexterity for the fastest healing possibilities.

So, in short.
Yes, a warrior bard can actually be very effective as long as you have at least 2 of the 3 following:
- a friend to keep you healed, buffed and resurrect you every 30 seconds.
- an insane (and this insanely expensive) stat/ability enhancing suit to resist/dish out damage and at the same time raise your HP/Mana, would need very good regeneration too because of lack of focus/meditation as well as a life leeching weapon with maximum damage modifiers
- a trained mongbat with insane combat skills (actually, you would need about 64 of those)

Note: If you manage to somehow get hold of those 64 trained mongbats, you might suffice with herding and musicianship as your only skills. Mongbats will do the rest (including the dying) for you.

Or... we can opt for the other answer.
No, a warrior bard template is no longer viable.
(to my knowledge)
