Hilarious Covian outburst confirms their lack of moral character!
Comrades of Yew, I urge you to get your hands upon a copy of Cove’s most recent militia-produced rag. Its contents will no doubt make you laugh heartily at the depth of ignorance which is imposed upon the poor chattels of the mercenaries. It speaks of Altmere suffering at Yewish hands – to verify these reports I travelled to the eastern province. People from all over Sosaria have recently come to settle on previously unoccupied land there, and they were all clearly bemused at the news of supposed atrocities which Covians insist our guardians perpetrated. Even those who once owed their allegiance to Cove shook their heads and rolled their eyes when I showed them a copy of the paper. A craftsman, Mr Edward Banner, had this to say:
“I used to support Cove when they ran this place, and wasn’t too happy when Yew began patrolling the area. Still, they left us alone and helped improve trade links with Minoc, which increased my income a fair bit, so I grew to accept it. They even set up a local council, controlled by representatives of the population, so we can manage our own affairs. The fact that my former masters have now sunk to this level just because we’re all doing better now affirms my new-found respect for the city of Justice.”
What the Covians do not seem to realise is that Yew holds no direct claims of ownership of the province - officially it falls within the borders of Britain. Nonetheless with the British forces too stretched to protect their lands, Militia Command have taken it upon themselves to infrequently patrol the area and create the institutions that the people need to establish self-governance. Their management consists only in basic regulation - they do not have the audacity to intervene in civic affairs. Obviously Cove does not understand any form of government other than despotism, and so merely assumes that Altmere must suffer the same oppression that it did under their iron grip.
The good people of Altmere have autonomously united as a tight knit community under Yewish protection, wherever they once hailed from.
Yet more shameful than amusing, the Covians have even decided to exploit the tragic incident of the Mill massacre to slate the Yewish peoples, claiming that the militia would murder their own people. Since this disruption of our food supply caused a rationing period which all guardsmen from captain to trainee had to abide by, this does not make sense even if you accept the Covian assumption that the Yewish are sub human beasts. Such an outlandish conspiracy theory could only be dreamt up by those who are willing to take such courses of action themselves. Perhaps the recent deaths in Cove were themselves caused by the thugs for hire, and they are projecting what little guilt they hold onto us? In any case, we assume that any soul with even an ounce of objectivity will see through the pathetic lies for what they are, and spare a thought for the indoctrinated, undereducated serfs of Cove who may believe this nonsense.
In more important news, last night the militia assisted Nathan Hawke in his attempts to help a member of the former Royal Council, a Mr. Clainin. It seems that the usurper to the throne Casca failed to accomplish his mission to murder all witnesses to his corruption, and is trying to finish the job. Reportedly, an elf disguised as a healer managed to pierce him with a poison blade, successfully weakening but not killing him. Hawke thus requested Captain Dart and his men to help bring him from the Haven healers to a safer location. Upon arrival in the town it became evident that Cove has not ceased in their attacks upon the settlement – their banners, the sound of weeping orphans and the stain of red upon the streets marking their recent presence. Whilst the incapacitated councillor was being brought from Haven to Britain, the elf pretender sent waves of attacks of orcs, ettins and wytches upon the escort. The assembled force easily defeated them however, and Clainin was brought safely to Britain. However, upon arrival there the councillor was no where to be seen, and a bare chested Casca made his presence known. This has led many to suspect that he may already have finished off the poor old man himself. But do not despair – the creature that sits upon the throne only has power if we choose to recognise it ourselves. Since this shall never happen, and the people of Yew shall always follow the principles of Lord British, we have nothing to fear from a fraudulent ‘king’.
The guardsmen successfully protected Clainin as far as Haven Moongate, yet the Elven usurper’s satisfaction suggests that he may have managed to murder him
Finally, a Vesperian raid upon the church of Arduin meadow was easily resisted last night. A huge force of the traders descended upon the unarmed and coifless guardsmen as they attended the holy service, quickly flooring a few of the unprepared militia. Nonetheless, within moments our guardians were on their feet and cut down the entire force with minimal difficulty. We might judge the Vesperians as ignoble for such acts, and yet we must look at it in context. Whilst it is true that they are willing to attack suddenly and without fair warning in such a manner, at least they restrict their targets to members of the armed forces. This much cannot be said for the Covians, who merely beat innocent civilians and produce lies concerning Yew, seldom mustering the courage and honour to fight like soldiers.
