Hello, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Eric Myres. I am 36 years old, and I felt the need to start my posting here by showing you the home I designed now that I've returned to Ultima Online. Yes, I recall the days when Feluca was the only world in existence. I have some funny stories to tell about those days, a thought for another thread.

Now, the previous paragraph was necessary to explain this, I am a veteran player who has just received seven veteran rewards, and some of those have helped finance this brand new home. I should say Castle. Because, that is what it ended up becoming. Now I didn't set out to build a castle, it just sort of created itself.

I am a huge fan of simplicity, and symmetry. Less is more. I've seen many wonderful homes, both here in this thread, on this forum, and in game. I've seen many, not so wonderful homes. Not that there's anything wrong, but to me, it seems like alot of people seem to think that the more junk they can jam into a single roomed floor, the more impressed we will be. So I like seeing homes with clear walkways, logical design, and artistic expression.

My background, before you ask, is one of an Amateur Level Designer for Descent and Descent 2. I am a prolific author of three dimensional anarchy levels. I am also an artist. I love to design, and the following images are from the very first house, and the very first attempt at designing a home for Ultima Online.

One last thing to note before we get to the pictures, is that this castle is the second time I designed it, because the first design was lost or not saved some how. But I immediately rebuilt it from memory, exactly the same as before, with the only one exception; the crennelations on the roof were perfected the second time around for true symmetry.

For those of you you are elves, I feel sorry for you, because you can never see how awesome the lighting is when the sun sets, and the lights come on. (Actually, the lights are always on, and anyone can turn any light on or off). Last detail you might want, this house is on the main broken off continent south of Luna and due west of the brigand camp, on the north side just before the western Bridge and forest. This is on the Pacific Server.

Here's the first floor (Main Arcade):
Posted Image
The first floor is a vendor mall. There's a chime at the entrance, like many stores have when you first walk in. You may greet the Bartender (who's in fact, called the Curator) with "Hail" to start the conversation thread. You will notice that there are four shops. The NW shop is the Apothecary. The NE shop is the Haberdashery. The SE shop is the Blacksmithy. And the SW shop will be ... well, I can't decide on a name or category yet. Suggestions welcome. But I do know I'll have a ton of woodworking products to sell from getting skill up in that area to furnish this home. Also, notice the floor pattern on the first floor is in fact a hexagonal tessellation.

Second floor with Mezzonine looking down on the Mall (Arcade)
Posted Image
Now you can see the second floor from the center walkway of the Mall. This is a fully functional crafters hall, and is the only floor of the castle with the largest room spanning all four walls. Notice how it's not square however, as there are Vendor Balconies out front, and two jail cells in the back. Notice how you can learn underhanded skills like Pickpocketing while in jail. This image doesn't show it, but the other cell has a practice dummy.

Third Floor (The Five Towers) with Library, Reading / Game room, Maple and Oak Penthouse Suites, and the Throne Room
Posted Image
Here you can see the Third floor, which has two Penthouse Suites, each one featuring a large and tall elven bed, and three storage containers each, one of which in each one is a foot locker lockable by key. These can be rented out for a paultry deposit on the key. They also have a writing desk and chair. The waiting room is very cozy, and even has a chess board (which can be changed out for checkers, backgammon, majong, or dice). There is also a library (to be stocked later). This library will be a mix of rune books, as well as story books (I am still researching how to prevent vandals from changing the text of the written books). I will try to have a wide variety of topics that could actually interest someone to stand there long enough to read the book. The throne room seats nine people. You may have noticed the Nine theme alot. There are Nine Stained Glass windows on the south wall for instance. The message board here is for those requesting room rentals, or information on the library books.

The Crows Nest Cafe (Roof)
Posted Image
This is the roof of my Home, albeit, Castle. There is a Waiter here, and you can actually order food and drinks right at the table and eat it there. If you are left with any trash after your meal, the trash can is conveniently located nearby. There is also some toy villages on top of the southern towers, for the kids to play with when the adults are busy talking at the table. Two more tables are available, on the northern towers, with comfortable granite rock seats. I recommend reserving a spot on the NW tower, as it overlooks the magnificent Sea of Stars in Malas.

Thank you for taking the time to tour Castle Opiate. If you ever want a personal tour, contact me on Pacific, on any of my characters: Lobber Vagabond, or Zezman, or Hotblack Desiato (the owner).

Post Script: The last picture was taken shortly after dawn. So unfortunately, I couldn't capture it before the sun suddenly and violently rocketed to high noon. But I do have a consolation image, this was taken a while back, when I was first showing it to my guild leader:
Posted Image

Last thing I wanted to mention was time. It took me about four or five hours to design this castle. It took more than a week to decorate. The castle itself is just under 800,000 gold, and the furnishings have probably exceeded that value.

P.P.S. I just logged back in game (got logged out while posting this long message) and found the sun and suddenly plunged into the darkness below. Here is a glimpse of my awesome view of the starry... ocean.

I love that house! Where about is it? If I would guess it would be to the left of Zento under the mountain?
