Are we EVER going to get the guard zones back in faction towns? On Siege one can't do escorts unless you can gate (only one escort town has a moongate). You have made half our towns unusable removing access to heartwood, community collections, and 60% of our gateable stables. Ten months is far too long to mess up Siege like this.
Yes, I would expect this to return as part of the Live development cycle (hey look! I got to say it twice!)

When will the spring cleaning point rewards end? Will we be given notice first?? Will it run again so those that were unable to get all the armor pieces still be able to?
Hmm, we don’t really have any plans to just turn off the reward givers anytime soon. Should we?

With the release of SA, there will obviously be new events to participate in. With that in mind, are there plans to improve things technically to reduce the uber-lag that always goes hand in hand with the events?
You know, this is something I think we can do by more carefully structuring events.

I think many will remember the Trial of Ricardo being almost completely lag free, even with 100+ people gathered in the same room. We had written very specific control scripts to keep things calm, which massively reduced screen refreshes and network traffic. Compare that to the Mad Mage event, where there were over 400+ on screen at a time, which actually activated the dormant telestorming code. *I* got telestormed while I was trying to activate the code word to turn it on!

Please can doubleclicking a throwing weapon for hide and pile of wool.
Wow, that makes total sense, especially since they’re edged!

I got Stygian Abyss and after using the promotional code I have recieved amongst other things "a vollem held in crystal." Without wasting this one time use, what does it do please?
Ah! This is your special gargoyle pet, a Vollem. This pet insta-bonds to you once you release it from the crystal, and otherwise acts like a normal pet. The reason this is special is that the only other way to obtain Vollems in the game is to complete the Sutek mini-quests and craft a golem version (which has to be repaired, and can’t be bonded).

I've noticed that 75 Imbuing is required to build a soul forge. How are mule characters supposed to get to a soul forge to gain in Imbuing if the only entrance to Ter Mur is through a dungeon? It seems to be a very difficult trek for a character with no battle skills. Will it be possible to purchase soul forges from an "emissary" npc somewhere in Trammel or Malas?
I think we’re just going to change this to be a bit more reasonable.

Um... I thought the spring cleaning ended a long time ago - or was that just the trade-in NPC's...

That was just with the trade-in's. You can't get tickets anymore, but you can still claim rewards (Which reminds me, I should use up the rest of my tickets).

I dont know why they don't just refresh it every spring with new items as an annual event, the code is already written, just add items.

I've got some tickets left, but prolly not enough to get anything. I feel like the poor kid at Chuck E. Cheese. :)

(For our brethren out of the US, Chuck E Cheese is a crummy pizza chain aimed at kids, especially birthday parties. You can play carnival style games and score tickets, which can then be turned in for awesome plastic -crap-, like barely functional cheap plastic yo-yo's, stuff like that.)

ROFL - I feel the same way.

I think I have 25000 left? - enough for 5 of these Nocturne Earrings - UOGuide, the Ultima Online encyclopedia - NS is about the only thing I liked on my NightElf.

On a side note, has anybody gone Human->NightElf->Human? I have, and maybe it's just me, but whenever it gets dark (Going in dungeon, etc.) it's never as dark as my pure Human characters (It's not exactly bight, but definately not as dark).

I wondered about that one all the time. Strange it hasn't been caught in beta. or maybe it has and they just overlooked it.

Doh! Who would have thought of that! Read the release notes!

WtF? Just run through there with a halfway trained and geared mage and mark a rune for your worker in Ter Mur. Or ask for a fricking gate in Luna, for heavens sake! the devs got more important stuff to do than providing workaround for lazy and/or unimaginative players.

One of the lamest in FoF's in a while, imho.

You need blacksmithing to make a forge and anvil...tailoring to make a loom...whats the difference?

But yeah, just get a rune. (hell, roll a garg with 50 magery and mark some runes)

I would rather have FoFs related to background and storyline than questions about game mechanics :)

Basically, what he means is how you can double click a sword or dagger and target to shear sheep and skin corpses - you currently can't do that with a throwing weapon.

Please can doubleclicking a throwing weapon for hide and pile of wool.

I think the asker of the question was meaning to ask, "Please, can doubleclicking a throwing weapon work for cutting up hides?"

Wow, that makes total sense, especially since they’re edged!

I don't get the "and pile of wool" portion. Isn't that what looms are for? =) If not that, scissors surely would suffice to cut the leather into cut leather.

Mayhaps that's what was implied but, still.... I got confused by that mash-up and had to do a double-take.

EDIT: I think Corvak hit it on the nose. It has to be shearing sheep. If not, it's something incredibly strange, and I don't think we want to know what it is.

Sadly, my line of questioning regarding our new Queen's background went unaswered.

I hope that we start getting "FoF Storyboard" and "FoF Game" or something to that effect.

My logic is that the game mechanics are important, but the storyline is also important as well.

Game mechanics should be explained as to not be confusing, but leave enough easter eggs in for it to be really fun to find new stuff. We really shouldn't have to ask some of these questions, but UO has never really came with extremely descriptive manuals and we generally get to figure most of it out.

...This in turn, is why having uoguide, uoforums, and uo stratics is essential. Without these sites, it wouldn't be quite so easy to get things done in-game; Many players still do not know to visit UOGuide, for example, or FindUO & SearchUO to find things on vendors.

Furthermore, what good is knowing the game mechanics if we don't know anything about the story of the game the mechanics are supposed to function in?

That's like giving people a manual to Oblivion but removing all the quest dialogue. :(

Well I agree mechanics questions are good - but too often they waste a FoF question by answering something that is just a quick search on UOGuide away.

Exactly! All questions should be referenced with The Guide before being answered.

It ought to be a rule to actually check and see that it isn't answered before asking it.

If it's not on there, it's either posted here, on stratics, or nobody has a clue.

Additionally, folks can also submit ideas and suggestions [which is what some people submit to the FoF] to EA without having them go through FoF....

...I actually tried once. I forget how big of an email that was, but suffice it to say there were several detailed pages suggesting everything from innovative veteran rewards, to bards being able to play several different tunes per instrument. I have no clue whether they used or considered adaptations of said ideas, or simply just clicked the "delete" button. :P

But hey, I tried....=)

Yeah, I have a lot of suggestions, but I don't think many of them are very popular with certain portions of the playerbase. Generally they consist of:

- Cracking down on third party vendors. Reselling tokens is one thing, but the ridiculous amount of duping and gold selling has destroyed the economy.

- Converting the Veteran Reward system into a microtransaction store. Allowing players to buy these items instead of waiting years to access them. (though leave the veteran reward system in place)

I think UO can learn from what Turbine has done with DDO, and how many other free to play games function, and I honestly believe a microtransaction model could breathe new life into UO - but EA has to quit being stubborn and allow for Paypal transactions. If I want to buy some points for DDO, I don't even have to leave the game, even if I use Paypal.

I'm also rather annoyed with all the rtfm questions that seem to make it on FoF.

FoF questions should be regarding stuff not covered elsewhere, this is why the question is going to the devs to begin with...

EDIT: Also, vague answers that are not really answers should not be included. If it's storyline-related, we don't need additional teasing, there's already enough suspense elsewhere. If it's something theyre "going to look into" tell us when the answer is found and there's actual info to share.
