Greetings Everyone,

We have been keeping a close eye on EM events and player feedback regarding rewards. After careful consideration we have decided that everyone that does the event should receive a reward. This reward will be the same reward across all the shards, with small differences in text on the item or the hue of the item. We will, of course, take precautions to ensure that only people who take part in a specific event receive the reward. The 1st and 2nd place winners will have their names on the item along with the event name and a year added to the item. When rewards are given out by the Event Moderators it will be announced with the post of shard times that the EM will be giving the applicable reward.

For future events, all locations will be announced with the times to stop any confusion for future events.

Mesanna

I guess a lot of people will be thinking 'the whiners win'.

But I disagree. A lot of people only want them to sell, and this will kill the market for these event items (excepting the 'winner' item).

Personally, i'd just like them to collect for events i've attended. I really don't give two cents about the 'rares market'.

But how do you win a scripted event?? :)

There's something to be said for a commemorative item with no advantageous properties insofar as game mechanics are concerned. The fun is looking at the item later down the line and remembering the events/adventures you were taking part of. I think this is a great idea by EA because I don't know of any other game that caters to nostalgia more than UO does.

I feel the same way - I just want to have a (useless) token that I 'was there and all I got was this crappy shirt'. Like vacation photos... Just a simple little 'remember this day?'. The last event I attended I didn't DESERVE a token prize, as I was unable to do a &*^$ thing (literally), but it still would have been nice to have been offered.

I find it odd that anyone would want to sell such a thing. I don't get it. There are far cooler rares out there that are functional (weapons/armor) or usefully decorational (rubble).

I wouldn't sell the item but I can understand there are some people who don't want useless clutter and would rather have cash.

I'm simply wondering how this will end, because now, they're whining even more than before... *shakes head*

I agree with you, but lots of people have to have one of everything or they feel like they "missed out!"

Its all about the market place. If someone is willing to pay me 20 mill for a useless stupid little book... oh u better believe i am gonna try and get that book.... Thats what commercialism and commerce is all about. If tehre were no market for this stuff, no one would bother.

Not surprised it has been changed, to be honest
Jeremy told me they stopped giving out items all together when the last em program was run, because of the complaints on stratics.
Seems history is repeating itself.

One event we had on Atlantic several years ago involved searching for purple orge lords (I can't recall their name). They were scattered all over the place and we had to defeat them all and retrieve some grapes they had.

That type of event is not possible under the new rules because everyone would have to have a chance to get the grapes. It is going to seriously limit what Event Moderators can do.

How long will it be before people complain how bland the events are with "go here, kill this, come get a reward sash".

How about an event where the winner becomes "His Magesty's Royal Knight" instead of one of the other titles? I know years ago there were "Duelist" characters.

I'd be happy with generic 'I was at the (eventname) on (eventdate) shirts/sashes/scrolls' for all attendees, and 'good' prizes for those who did some good.

Personally, I feel uneasy about giving out items at events. At least under the conditions as it is working right now.
The events are usually done just one time. Casca's speak was really an exception as it seems. So, only a small partion of the UO-community at the respective shard can attend. As some might have no time due to rl-issues, or it is just too late. Remember, a shard usually inhibits people from different timezones. Like Europa, you have people e.g. from Moscow, Copenhagen and London. All cities/countries differ by at least one hour. So, when the event starts at 9pm gmt (London), it is already 11pm in Moscow. And the event goes easily 1-2 hours on a sunday. Which is quite late, if you have to get up early for your job. So, we have inequality to time.
Another point is, events are usually not announced at uo.com let alone at the log-in screen. Or by global-messaging. You rather get it by mouth-to-mouth propaganda or by the posts on several boards. Yet, I could imagine only a small part of the player-base is actually reading boards. Or is connected with the right people. In the sense of information flow. So, we have inequality to information.

Yet, we all pay the same amount of money. So, we should get all the same service.

I agree with this. While there will always be claims of favoritism, I think we're going to have to live with it. The EM events are keeping the game fresh (because EA takes four years to release expansions!)

One possibility is for the EM's to reward those who are 'in-character' and present for the entire event with the random rewards, instead of simply being the fastest, or the guy with the biggest set of arties.

I just really hope they give our things that are related to the event, not the same stupid shirt or sash with a different saying every time.

-If we are killing purple ogres, give out a purple ogre statue
-If we are are doing a scavenger hunt give out a toolbox labeled "Box of crap"
-If we are sewing items for a crafting event, give everybody a sewing kit with only 1 use... any clothing item made by this kit would be blessed with the event name
-If we are gathering resources to help build barricades, or repair a town, give us an empty ore cart with the name of the event.
-If we are defending a caravan on its way from one town to the next, then give us a Hued Wall Shield with our shard Symbal on it. (I think this would be a sweet event. A slow moving caravan, getting attacked by various spawn along its way. Players have to fight off spawn as the caravan travels to help it reach its destination safely)

There are just so many cool things they could do and so many awesome graphics they could use for items, I just really hope they dont resort to worthless crap. Give us somethig that will make people say "Dang, I should have gone to that event, I wount miss the next one!"

And this is how I think Event rewards should be handeled...

Ok, so it seems we have a few different groups where this is concerned.

1)Some people like to attend events just for the act of attending and participating, and they are unhappy with their event getting crashed by "Greedy" crosssharders, so they dont want any items given out.

2)Some people are collecters and want something to show for their time and participation at an event, and eliminating these items would ruin the fun of an event.

3)Some people are poor, and dont mind putting in an hour or two at an event if it will get them an item they can then sell for gold to fund their chosen/prefered playstyle.

Solution: Lets make it required to "Declare Your Home Shard" in order to receive any kind of event item. It can be as simple as saying "I declare xxxxx my home shard", or "I swear allegiance to xxxxxx". Now lets say you have to wait one month before "re-declaring" or changing your homeshard. This way people cannot hop shards, but if someone does move, they can still change their homeshard. Maybe an additional timer... you have to have declared your homeshard at least one week prior to participating in an event and getting an item. This way I cant get an item on Baja, then log in on Atlantic and declare Atl my home shard and get an item there the same night. Now that only people who really live on a shard can participate, lets give everybody who shows up something related to the event as a keepsake. And then lets give the top 5 or 10 something special.

As for hand out... Let it be done by the game. A quest where the first 5 or 10 to complete it get one reward, everybody after that gets a different reward untill the event is over and the NPC quest giver is removed. This would eliminate any accusations that the EMs were being unfair in their distribution. They can still design the event, and the rewards, name and hue them, and run the event, but reward distribution would be handled by NPC game mechanics. Less work for the EMs, and no more whining from people who didnt win first place and now want to "blame" the EM for their failure.

This way, those who want to collect a souvenir will still get one, those who want to compete can do so, and those who just want to play will be able to without getting crashed by X-shard campers.

This system could also help with holiday gifts as well. I love x-shard trading, but I would rather have my 5-7 main chars on my home shard get something I can use or trade, then have every char i never play get something that is bound to them on shards I will never be on, like they did with the Throbing Hearts. This would eliminate the need to "Character Bind" while putting a stop to x-shard trading flooding the market with extra items. (Which they seem to be trying to do)

Pac has done something. Did you attend the Valentines Day event? Keep an eye on the lantern in the Britain counselor hall. EM Cyno Razik said it will give dates and times of events.
