THP asked in [url=http://vboards.stratics.com/showthread.php?t=102351] this thread

A question for the computer buffs i guess ,

But what other game comes close to UO's 11 years -
The longest running online game world!!!!!

Righteous says

The MUD Mystic Adventures is older than 11 years that
is what I was playing before UO came out and the last
time I checked it was still up.

while RaDian FlGth says

If we're talking about modern MMOG's, then EverQuest is up next.

Otherwise, there are a slew of them that are either text based or lightly graphically based that continue to chug on.

Meridian 59 predates us for a bit, and there's apparently a German MMO that beats us by a few months too (although I didn't catch the name and need to look it up.) The next North American mass-market MMO would be Everquest, then Asheron's Call and/or DAoC and/or Shadowbane, I believe (can't remember offhand the order there.)

XavierArcanus thinks

The Realm is the oldest graphical MMO currently standing.

Locker gave us an insight to
Kingdom of Drakkar is older than UO (by like five years) and it's definitely still up in some form.

Here is a pretty cool history of online gaming some might find interesting:

Enjoy!

Last word goes to NyteDoombringer because everyone else started an argument about which game is/was oldest :reye

Legends of Kesmai

Legends of Kesmai (LOK) was among the first successful graphical multi-player online role-playing games. It was based on a slightly stripped down version of Island of Kesmai and was available for play at America Online and a now defunct site called GameStorm. Prior to that, Kesmai corporation ran a long open beta for the game, as well as hosting the game for a short period of time in the mid 90's. In 1999 Electronic Arts bought Kesmai and in 2001 closed the business.[1] The rights to the game were sold to Electronic Arts sometime in 1999, and the game was subsequently shelved by them.

I know this game was before UO because I played it on
Gamestorm and then as said EA bought them out and
closed them down because they wanted everyone to come
play their new Ultima Online game.

Any of you remember LoRD (Legend of the Red Dragon) from the days of the BBS? That was the first pseudo MMO I played.

I Still remember when I went to a sony convention back in August of 1998. I was talking to one of it's original creators Bill Trost and he offered me a closed beta spot for my obvious interest in the game as they were there showing some of the Concept art and such. I was one of the original beta testers for Everquest and played it from 1999 all the way until 2005. I played EQ b4 I had even heard of UO but then again I was only 16 when I first heard about EQ and had to have my parents permission just to play it lol.

I remember back in the old days when lag was considered "Normal" and it took 5 mins to walk across the screen, was hilarious...
I always played ultima from the age of 14, my brother got me into it.
Started with ultima 6, then 7 and finally ultima 8. My bro pre-ordered Ultima Online and we were excited as kids on Christmas day when we heard it would be released. I will never forget it arriving and first logging in. I remember people running around saying

"If you want gold press tab and double click me". Those were the days.....
