I have several accounts right now. As such, I have 10 young characters made and 12 not young. I want to rotate them into visit Melissa. I know youngs can get in the room unharmed. And I figure I can run the 12 others in there as well.

Questions:

1) Will explosion pots be enough to do damage to get a ticket?

2) Many of them have 50 Magery. Could I get 20+ Magery gems and a 100 LRC suit to have them cast BS on her?

Anything else you can think of to help? I am going to start bringing the youngs in today.

P.S. Two of them are named Chuck dePot and Ivana Tosspots.

No offense, but I hope they institute some measure to prevent "young" characters from receiving the rewards. Using "young" characters is nothing but an exploit, in my opinion.

I like the names, though... heh

I see your point and I would be glad to make the concession that we are not immune. I totally agree, that is rediculous.

That being said, I have only been back in game for a little over a week. 100,000 points per piece doesn't come easy. 600,000 for a set of armor that will last me for the forseeable future is steep for me, but fair.

Nonetheless, I still plan to take them in and use them for points. If they declare it an exploit, I would gladly stop.

Here's another trick I plan to try: Run two accounts at the same time (I love KR) and party your chars together. Both characters should get loot rights even if only one is tossing pots.

Melissa will target "young" players if they damage her. This is not an exploit, this is the way the game mechanics were intended.

Wow, now we openly talk about manipulating game mechanics for personal gain (exploits).

Amazing!

(not just you Magister, but seems to be a trend I see more and more with this event, sad to say)

Adding on to what DiP said, and a personal rant of mine over the last few days, but if you're taking new or "young" characters in there, DON'T be "that guy" please. By that I mean don't stand around with your thumb up your hind end doing nothing but getting in the way, or dictating to people what to do, when you are NOT helping at all. Sorry, but 20 explode pots ain't doing squat to help kill Melissa, it's only getting you looting rights. Meanwhile, vet chars are doing the real work, taking the real risk, and clearing Melissa and the spawn.

If you create a character just to go there, at least stone some skills onto them so they are useful....a little magery and eval is fine, so they can throw fireballs, heal others/pets, and generally be useful. It may cost you a few charges of a soul frag, or preferably use full stones if you have them, but you're going to get a 25k ticket, some peerless ingredients, perhaps some even better loot, and it will make your fellow UO players happier.

You say "tomatoes", I say "exploit". Won't argue it, it's just the way I see it. Thus the "in my opinion" at the end of my post.=)

If I remember right from the last time I had a [young] character - which was a heck of a long time ago - if you entered a dungeon, you got a warning. It would say something along the lines that if you entered a dungeon, your young status no longer kept you safe and you would be attacked. Has this changed overall, or just for Ilsh dungeons?

As for the other, I have seen lots of people take pets down to the little side room and let the balron and imps target the pets. Then they can be free to fight Melissa. Personally, I like having the bally in there. It makes it more of a challenge when Melissa shows, and gives me something to do until she does.

They made it so easy to get 50,000 points per character they should have just gave everybody the damn tickets in a spring cleaning gift bag.....
Then i wouldn't have 15 ghosts following me around cuz there miner or tailor got whacked....Just my opinion

While I agree that the character should have some skill to help out others, I did feel the need to point out that soul stones are account bound. I don't know where they would get the skills from since all characters created on a new account would likely be the same age. If they are new players on new accounts, I welcome them to participate. But we know that is not where most of the young are coming from. Most are vet players using new account codes and then they should be equipped to help out.

And yes, they changed things that (young) status prevents attack from monsters even in Ish now....except if you target them in some way. Then you're fair game! This is where the characters with full skills are doing the work!

So being able to be in an area with other spawn (that won't attack you) while the one enemy that can/will has locked horns with everyone else (who are being attacked by the other spawn) is ok with you? Is that ok with everyone else?

Wow, sorry if I touched a nerve here. It wasn't and isn't my intention to "cheat". I can tell you exactly how it functions in game and the risks and rewards that insue.

First, for the rescue quest, if you take a young to do that quest, it's a free 25k ticket. I don't agree with the immunity part, but to be honest it is no different than dieing on the way in and getting rezzed when I get there with a veteran character. I would have been fine had they removed my young status when I entered the dungeon.

Second, on the Melissa attempt, being young is a massive advantage that I think should have been removed or changed. However, that isn't going to stop me from taking characters I created in to damage her. When I throw my first pot, all monsters in the room can sometimes attack me. Sometimes all that can will attack, other times it seems that only Melissa is capable of killing me. That being said, 20 explosion pots will get me a ticket and a cloak.

I am sorry if some people see this as exploiting the system. If EA had changed it, I would simply have give my newbie characters a 100% LRC suit, +30 Magery Jewelry and sent them in to scroll cast EV or straight cast it if they could.

I have played games a long time. There is a fine line between exploit and advantage. Is this cheesy to do? Yes. Do I feel like I am exploiting? No. It's a gray line here.

I wish they would preclude newbies from entering passworded doors or the teleporters to Melissa, but they haven't. And as such I have claimed 50k in tickets for all my characters with newbie status.

I think if they didnt make it so hard to obtain this awesome new armor then people wouldnt be exploiting it the way they are.

For me personally - I have one main character I use (LAdy Kolleen) and she is a mage so I REALLY REALLY BADLY want the sorceror armor . . . but my problem is I only have been able so far to afford 3 pieces - so now I have to come up with some magical way to get 300000 more points - how do i do that? Try to somehow get my other characters to run the quests (although they will die a kazillion times) I dont think that is so much cheating in my opinion . . . its people going after what they want. i never really go after the hard to get items but this time I WANT IT! lol.

Anyone can justify doing something/anything for personal gain if they want.

In my eyes, I don't see any difference in running in with a young character or ghost. The devs didn't mean for it to be done that way, and yes, it's their fault for not putting in the measures to make sure it wasn't possible, but on the other hand, just because the game "allows" it by mechanics, doesn't mean it's "right". Through game mechanics alone dupes have been done, does that mean it's "right" to do?

As much as I feel the topic of circumventing game mechanics for personal gain is a valid issue in this in game event, the obvious flaws go far beyond that.

The fact that this entire event pushes players to do these things in order to get something desired is a huge problem IMO.

I don't read anyone doing this event for the event itself, it's mostly a grindfest for items, and what has everyone been wanting more of in game? Content, not pixels, or atleast, that's what they say.

I agree and I don't. lol

First, as I have stated before, if there were other ways to gain points that were as efficiant I would be doing that. I went and killed Ophidians for a day. I also have camped IDOC's this week for items to barter in. This is an option that I see as legal at the moment. as an issue of morality, I guess we can disgree on that.

Second, I have run the complete line with my main and I have read the story arch. I am invested in the story moreso than alot of people. That being said, there are items that I would love to get for my home. And this at the moment appears to be the only way to attain them.

Yes, there are other ways to get points, which is good. But as it's been pointed out, the easiest (and everyone will always choose the easiest) way to get them is by sending players to get the 25k ticket the "easy" way.

I'm glad you did do it the "right" way (or the way it was intended) and enjoyed it, that's what the event should be about. Had the devs any care into the storyline and the integrity/value in it, they wouldn't have made it a grindfest to get the items, nor would they have made it possible to do endlessly by creating new characters to obtain points needed for desired items.

Everyone complains about the monotony, the grinding, and the scripting/exploiting, but when it all comes down to it, everyone does it in order to get what they want. This could be avoided if the devs wanted to, but they see it as player action in game one way or another, so they not only let it go, but promote it by creating these type "events".

I do the storyline for the story . . . I enjoy killing Melissa for the fun of it and the fame - what comes a long with it is just that - a perk. Now I am using 2 of my other characters to run through the scenerios just to get the tickets for my main charaxter but that is because the armor is so incredibly insane to obtain.

I have been playing this storyline from the begininng, i got the cloaks and the threads and have done all the turn ins, spent days (probalby weeks) killing ophids (which btw they arent dropping nearly as much as they were), killing exodus overseers for turnins but this will take an eternity.

btw - side note :
will the armor be obtainable any other way eventually? (like through recipes or anything) would anyone know that answer yet?

Not to pick on you, but that's contradictory, and along with...

... just further shows my point that this entire event has become a grindfest for the sole purpose to obtain items. If not, then why continue grinding out what you are... because it's fun? No, you want items, so you grind, how to grind for points? Make new characters so each can help "main" characters obtain more points.

I can't agree with the way they laid out the map, even if I did enjoy the land.

Only the devs know, but going off of recent trends, I'd bet on the high end that they will be obtainable through other means.

In my own defense - I didnt Create new characters - I have other side characters that I have had for YEARS that Im doing the quests with. what is wrong with that i do not know.

"because it's fun? No, you want items"

and yes, its fun - i just spent over an hour in the dungeon with melissa and you know what ? I helped 2 different people in the mage part get their bodies and escort them . . . if that isnt for pure game what is? Unlike most in the dungeons I fight, heal, rez, and help where Im neeeded . . . but im just in it for the 'grind' right?
