I spoke with Jeremy and asked about KR's slow progress

Due to the move and having to hire new staff to replace those who chose not to move, KR's development has been a fair bit slower

Basically they had to hire new staff, train said staff and redo all their schedules

So I hope that means we'll be seeing more work being put into KR.

Not exactly ground breaking news, I know, but that's the official reason anyways :P

Seems like the same old, same old easy to sight excuses to me. It looks to me that EAMythic is more concerned about getting Warhammer Online up and running. Why? Because that is all the Mark Jacobs, head of EAMythic is/will talk about whenever he is interviewed by any member of the media.

I would have rather of just paid 25-30 bucks for the KR client upgrade, and EA actually spend some money on its production. Instead, I feel like we got what we paid for.

Yes, I do play KR. :)

Well you are going to get your wish, whenever they get around to releasing the next expansion (Stygian Abyss or whatever it will be named). I am positive that it will fall into your price range. :-/

If it means investing money into making KR functional for more players, and in turn getting more players into Ultima then I'm for it!

How does Ultima normally do expansions? You just buy the upgrade, and download from the server? Or do they actually put out a box. I have yet to find a box for Ultima in any stores around here!

the last released box was the 9th anniversary edition. So it has been a few years.

UO needs a box on the shelf, you just can not draw people into the game by word of mouth alone. Look at how aggressively EAMythic is marketing Warhammer Online and that game has not been released yet, it has even been delayed several times. While UO has had no marketing for years. Why pay for a marketing people then? Use their salaries to reinvest into UO.

Where I agree UO needs more marketing... the antiquated 2D client isn't going to make spending money on marketing UO worth it. They would just be flushing money down the toilet. Many people don't like the old 2D look, or top down look of UO. They want to have 3D first person, like WoW or LotRO.

Also, Warhammer is EAMythics baby right now. Its no surprised that they're putting a lot of money into it. I'm in the beta, and thats all I can say.

And you probably weren't supposed to say that. But being their 'baby' is not justification for neglect. Just because WoW has been Blizzard's baby for years, and now their new baby is about ready to pop, they're not shafting resources for WoW for SCII...nor their new one that's in secret development...They're hiring new staff for them, and maintaining what they already have.

sarcasm on:

And the abomination that is KR, has pulled in thousands upon thousands of new players?

sarcasm off

Even with just the 2D client if it was marketed correctly you could get some new players. Just look at the $10 dollar or less area of your local big box store (say target or walmart) If your a european player sorry I do not know the large chains there. Many of the cheap games are repackaged year after year to keep them in the public eye (like 1500 casino games, 1000 soltarie decks, etc) How many solatire decks does one person need? Yet every year, its repackaged and sometimes added to (IE 1000 soltarie decks: Now with new screen savers!). Just keep it on the shelf, is what I am asking for. heck market it as the low cost, runs on nearly any computer (at least 2D) niche game that UO has become.

My god man, the diablo warchest ($30) is still on the shelf in most stores where I shop. If it still was not selling, it would not be there. So lets not knock the 2D client that got us to the 10 year anniversary.

I think most of the people that wanted a wow or lotr perspective have gone on to play thoses games. But many come back. Why? as you stated its not the graphics. So what is it? Its the depth of the game play. Its why I stay.

Knowing UO since 1998/97 and just canceled both of my accounts due to no KR support/patches/work at all.

I was a 100% KR user and there is no way i want to go back to the very very outdated 2d client features and it's graphics.

This was the last time in my life i ever gave UO another chance.

The game has changed for the better of "farming item freaks" anyway. Plus i actually want to call UO "Ultima Single Player Online" instead of just "Ultima Online".

Maybe, I know I was looking forward to Spore, until I remembered that EA would be publishing it. I have always enjoyed a will wright game, but I am going to skip this one.

For the record, KR seems to have tripled the number of crashes I can expect in a 2-3 hour gaming session recently.

The only changes have been Vista SP1 and the most recent UO patch.

Hate this. Help me keep loving the KR client!

And you seriously still recommend to players that they use this client?
I can not recall the last time I crashed in 2D. But I know I am going to have crashes with KR.

But if that works for you and you enjoy that gameplay well...more power to you.

As for me, I am done with KR, until they actually get it stable. Tired of being EAMythics unpaid QA team. I am paying to play the game. Waiting for another player to make a skin that corrects things (if it can be corrected by the mod/skin maker) in the client that EAmythic should have fixed in the first place is just silly. I will reinstall, if and when SA is released with KR on the disk.
