Blacksmithing guide

UO:ML Smithing

This guide will take you to 120 use the minimum amount of ingots possible. It is based on the 2.5% increase to the gain range per 5pts of power scroll used. (see chart)

Before starting:
1) Mining - Higher the better for smelting. This will reduce your ingot consumption drastically.

2) 90-175K iron ingots (175K if you do not have mining)

3) GM tinker (this only takes 8K ingots), OR 200 GM smithing tools

4) Forge and anvil nearby

5) High strength for longer crafting periods.

6) A bag in your main pack. You will place all your ingots in here. Then using UOA, set the smelting agent to target the bag. Then set hot key in UOA to activate the smelting agent. MAJOR time saver. Smelting is a MAJOR ingot saver

7) UOA is nice, you can record a make last macro, ex
Use item (smithing tool) (change to use item type)
Menu selection (make last).

This is very adaptable, as it allows you to just hand make the item once, then use the key to repeat until the next benchmark.

8) Start with 50 smithy if you can!

Skill gains: ONE GUIDE TO COMPLETE THEM ALL
Time: avg 30 hours. Ingots: 90-175K
Regardless of power scroll used, follow this guide.

0-30(ish) - purchased
31.7 to 44 - Daggers (3 ingots)
44.1 to 60 - Cutlass (8 ingots)
60.1 to 68 - Kryss (8 ingots)
68.1 to 78 - Short Spear (6 ingots)
78.1 to 90 - Circlets (6 ingots)
90.1 to 120 - Royal Circlet (6 ingots)

*Moderator Edit*
105.1 to 120 - Boomerang (5 ingots) - Thank you Jeza.

At least for this, you don't need UOA anymore - one can just use the salvage bag that can be bought at a provisioner for 1000 gold. (handy for KR users)

Re: Blacksmithing guide

I'm working on my smith skill and at 105 I would advise to change from royal circlet to boomerang.
It's only 5 ingots instead of 6 and the min skill level is higher.

I have been raising smith faster with it.Only drawback it's heavier so you have to melt more often but it's more than woth it in my opinion.

Oh and the salvage bag is a "must have" with GM mining and now more than GM smith when I melt a boomerang (5 iron to craft) I get back 4 iron instead of 3 with the "smelt item" from the blacksmith tool.
And it's way faster, one click and it's done no matter how many items I crafted

Re: Blacksmithing guide

This guide was originally from 2007 - it doesnt take into account additions to the game

Made a little change to the guide, on account of the original writer is no longer active.

Thanks Jeza
