[Literature] - The Dark Elf, Nixie & Miraculous Fish
The Dark Elf, Nixie & Miraculous Fish
by Loic Talecaster
-------------------------
Hearken, and listen
well, for I shall now
recount the tale known
as:
"The Dark Elf, the
Nixie, and the
Miraculous Fish"
In an age long past,
before the times of
even Britannia and
Sosaria lived a dark
elf by the name of
Rylorgh. Now this
fellow was as
ambitious, or more, as
his not-so-nice-kin.
And the dark elf
Rylorgh longed for a
new land to conquer
with fire and blade.
But this was a land of
strong kingdoms.
There was not an inch
on land that was not
aptly defended. And
kings, then as now,
tended to look poorly on
would-be conquerors.
Rylorgh pondered this
most thoughtfully,
walking near the
shore, when a Nixie
broke water near
where he stood.
Rhylorgh's
concentration was
broken, and he spoke
thusly, "Who are you
to disturb me so, when
I think of a land to
conquer?
To which the Nixie
replied, "Good sir,
thou'll not find thy
kingdom on land. But
under the sea lie
kingdoms the like of
which thou've never
dreamt of and ripe for
the taking."
"Foolish nixie", said
Rylorgh, "maybe thou
canst live underwater,
but I'd certainly
drown!"
"Not so", said the
Nixie, and he
produced a small green
fish, freshly cooked.
"With this Miraculous
Fish, thou'll be able to
come underwater and
see for thyself."
Rylorgh nodded and
ate the fish and dove
after the Nixie.
The sea fairy led him
to the kingdoms under
the sea. There he
listened to the
mermaid's songs. He
swam amongst the
tower of coral. He saw
the court of great king
Neptune, his trident
holding. He watched
as schools of
multicolored fish
swam about.
And soon the Nixie
brought him back up.
Rylorgh's eyes shone.
"'Tis a miraculous
kingdom indeed! I will
need many of those
green fish to take
mine soldiers
underwater!"
The Nixie said this,
"Well, good elf, this
was the sole I had, but
worry not! They are
found like any other
fish, by fishing!"
Rylorgh nodded at
that, and went to steal
a fishing pole. He
cast his line. At first
he was not very good,
but soon he proudly
noticed that he was as
good as any.
As he cast, and cast
and cast, he found
that this was a
relaxing thing indeed.
After a time he caught
a fish, but it was not
one of the Miraculous
Fish. Nevertheless,
he was hungry and
cooked and ate the
fish. And he returned
to his fishing.
And fished.
And fished.
And fished.
He fished for so long
he forgot why he was
fishing.
Rylorgh became a
fisherman. In time he
married and lived a
happy fisherman's
life. And he lived ever
happy from the
bounty of the sea, for
it was a kingdom full
of things and ripe for
the taking.
And the Nixie saw
that and giggled, for
his fish had been
Miraculous in more
ways than one.
Here ends mine tale,
for such is the truth
of the thing. Like all
good tales, this one
grows with each
telling.
