"Trinsic's new approach to childcare"

The "City of Justice" has taken another leaf out of Yew's "100 ways to bring up your children" book. This reporter has heard rumours and indeed hard facts from eye-witnesses about this new style of child rearing.

The new craze is to lock the little darlings in a cell, battered and bruised until they work out their problems it seems, corporal punishment is the new fashion ...as demonstrated more and more recently on Trinsic's finest criminals.

If it works on the thugs then surely it will work on those little monsters, one wonders if the Duke of "Justice" implemented these tactics on his own delightful son?

Rumours From Cove

Who you gonna call? The Dragoons! Finally the Covian 'elite' the dragoons are starting to pick up but with Ex Sergeant Joey Lanai and the current Sergeant in full active duty do I smell rivalry?

And is the Covian army getting desperate for members? From what I've seen and heard not only is there a one eyed and one handed elf working but a deaf and mute lass! Good luck with yelling out orders there. Also these two seem to be latching on together, ah well, stick with your own kind I guess.

Ex Captain now Dragoon Sergeant Hoagie Grayner was supposedly beaten to a pulp by Yewish waywatchers yesterday as an attempt to gain information from him. Warning to all married Officers out there, they will use your husband/wife as a threat!

Speaking of love, whats up with Darkmoon? From what I've heard he dived off the barracks roof in an attempt at suicide recently because the only he loves doesn't love him back! Blimey.

Rumours!

Sally Buttons - who has her kidnapped? Where is she? And speaking of kidnappees where the dickens is serial victim and Black Widow Tabbitha of the Knights Hospitaller?

Answers on a ransom demand please.

Todays Edition is brought to you by the beautiful Polly Patterson
Bringing you news from the streets

A special report
from Polly Patterson

This is a special report from Polly Patterson.Ask yourself citizens of Sosaria, what has become of our beloved towns? With the disappearance of Lord British those highest in our Loyalist towns are taking over but never for the better. What will become of those who can't afford to dine at a marble table? Those who can't afford to shower their kin in expensive clothes and gifts like The Trinsic Duke Ivryn and Lady Caroline & Ikus.
Those who have sworn to protect and care for the citizens of Trinsic, do so little and are slowly slipping to become our number one enemy. Ask yourselfs those of you sleeping on the streets where was the duke when you were removed from your meager home because you missed one tax payment to feed the fat nobles of Trinsic? Where was the duke when you were robbed and almost killed by rogue drow with blood lust? Your injuries and woes don't matter anymore and the city is no longer the city of Honour but the city of sin, those who can pay for the bill will survive and anyone else is meaningless just another pebble on a rocky road. I will not take the constant abuse from patrolling Kaldorians who have beaten on many citizens in the past and the duchy guards who couldn't fight their way from a paper bag. I, Polly Patterson will have no more! From here forward I give you the truth and will no longer write what I have to please those who are funding me. Common workers of Cove, Yew, Trinsic and whatever other town must unite! For its only the word of your baron or duke which is keeping you apart and should no longer do so.

A heart breaking tale

As tumbleweed blew passed in Cove and Trinsic I took a lovely trip to Yew to perhaps find some story's to entertain my dearest readers. On arriving at Stonekeep I started chatting to a dashing man named Nathaniel Hawk who told me a heart breaking tale of two love struck women who left the Militia with shattered hearts.
Amethyst of the Marksmen's heart was broken when her husband Ditriteous Longbane told her that he no longer cared for her, shortly after he went missing. My heart goes out too you Miss Amethyst who is now on a journey to find her long lost husband. "Love is blind." Says Nathaniel Hawk a marksmen for the militia and it most certainly is. But dearest Amethyst isn't the only one with an arrow pierced heart Abigail was also said to have the same story except over a man named Lucius. Good luck on your journey too!

Hooded Claw - Slim and Shady

Stunning victory!
________________________________________
After the recent ceasefire with the Vesperian forces things had been quiet up North. Peace was returning, commerce was flourishing and the populace seemed more happy then usual. Thanks to this, the Covian Army had taken the liberty to invest more time in securing the western border. Loyalist forces had once again taken an interest in pillaging Minoc so securing the western border was quite important. For a few weeks now, Covian forces had conducted successful raids deep into Yewish territory. The object of these missions was to remove any offensive capabilities towards the North.

Unwilling to relinquish their stranglehold on the Free North, a Yewish Army led by none other then 'Lord' Protector Klion D'Gar made it's way around our outposts in Altmere this sunday . Undoubtedly the recent defeats and the signing of the ceasefire between Cove and Vesper had led D'Gar into a desperate gamble to break through the Northern Lines.

Covian Scouts soon picked up the trail of such a huge host however. But instead of harrying them along their path, the Covian Military Command decided to lull the Yewish into believing their raid had gone unnoticed. At the Covian Barracks, preparation for the oncoming army were well underway. The Covian defenders were outnumbered, but they were defending Northern soil and they were prepared for anything!

Brave Covians await the Yewish invaders with determination!

The Lord Protector of Yew advanced towards the organised Covian formation, confusion about his foiled plan evident upon his face. He began uttering the words: "Ideally I'd like to converse before...". And at that exact moment his trusted bodyguard released a barrage of explosives into the Covian ranks. Covians immediately retaliated and unhorsed the Lord Protectorate.

Explosives and firebombs used to no avail by the Yewish invaders

Wave after wave of Yewish soldiers threw themselves at the determined formation to no avail. Clearly the fumbled attack sequence had caused chaos and bodies piled up high at the feet of the defenders. The attack must have lasted for hours, but in the end the determined and outnumbered Covians guards had dispatched almost the entirety of the Yewish invading force. Klion D'Gar and several of his highranked officers were seen scurrying off the battlefield, badly wounded in body and pride.

Wounded Yewish soldiers, after receiving the proper treatment, claimed an overeager Besieger had foiled the perfect battleplan. Be that as it may, Covian Veterans could scarcely remember such a one-sided and humiliating victory over the Yewish Oppressors in the North. Surely this would sap Yew's desire to invade again and the North can once again be secure and peaceful!

Knights Hospitaller

Due to the lack of good will across the land the Hospitaller Order has taken it upon themselves to reform into a monastic warrior order and strive to show themselves to be an example of righteousness and virtue.

Many of our towns and cities, long since having fallen from the path of Virtue, and no longer great powers, show no signs of quelling the growing troubles across the lands between the growing factions and large armies of Cove, Vesper,Yew and Trinsic

REWARD

For the person that can prove the death of the drow Nil’tyr the Duchy offers a reward of 10.000 gold.

The drow was last seen badly hurt with probably bad burn wounds south of the Trinsic moongate and was suspected to have burnt to death there.

There is some doubt that the drow is really dead, so we offer anyone who can prove his death with finding his remains the reward.

Kaelyn, Captain of the Duchy Guards

A Letter

*a letter that has mysteriously found its way to The Poste*

My dear Captain Kaelyn,

I have come to learn you offer a 10,000 Gold reward for proof of my death, so I hope you are not too disappointed to learn I am in fact very much alive.

You may of course take this letter as proof of life and I hope you will be considerate enough to honour the stipulations of the reward in the reverse.

I however have no need for the monetary reward so I gracefully decline its bestowment upon me, instead please donate it in full to the healers in Trinsic for their admirable work.

I owe them a great gratitude in keeping my interests intact and I am sure they will take comfort in knowing I shall come for them soon.

Ssinjin Deis
Nil'tyrr

Another Letter

Dear Miss Patterson,
Whilst understanding your fears and worries about the safety of the streets in Trinsic city, I would take this opportunity to defend His Grace, Irvyn Duke of Trinsic and to inform you that he has nothing dearer to his heart than the wellbeing of the citizens of his fair city.
The pressures of the affairs of state way heavily upon his noble shoulders, yet still the Duke finds time to consider new and innovative ways of protecting Trinsics honourable populace!
I would not presume to reveal the scheme the Duke has devised, but it would mean a cleaner, safer, free-er Trinsic for all!
So I for one say "Hurrah to The Duke!", and I would bid your readers to keep faith in his wisdom.
Lord Fargo.

A Final Letter

Nathaniel Hawk is little more than a upset little boy crying that he didnt get the girl, he spreads lies of things he does not know, he speaks so freely of these matters, adding his own spin to the tales.

He failed to get with Amethyst Longbane, and Abigail, It is because of this he feels it his need to slanderise other people like a child throwing his rattle. The story he failed to tell you my dear Polly, is that he himself was once married, to a woman he apparently.. "Loved". But did he live happily ever after with this woman? No, shortly after she went missing, but i as a former friend of nathaniel know the truth, his old flame came back into town and he disreguarded his wife. The story he told me even implied he ended her life, however i don't spread slander, so i will leave it for your readers to decide.

Rumours

From what I hear folks that Polly Patterson went missing after an article which was labeled 'the truth'. The style was said to be out of place from her normal articles. I do wonder what happened there.

Talewin Ironfist, ex fiancee of multi-man Qwyn Quaintly was seen staggering around hugging multiple bottles of liqueur! Has the dukes aid gone mad?!

Man loving activities seem to be increasing in Cove as not only was Tiberius seen swapping saliva with Gerek but also supposed married man Hoagie was dancing while gently embracing him. Shock horror. Keep your buttocks against the walls everyone!

Letters

Quote:
To the offices of the Poste and to the general public who compose its reader base,

It has been some time since I have put quill to parchment with regards to the beloved rag which for so long painted me in colors not nearly as pastel as Id have liked. Yet, after reading miss Patterson’s editorial about the social injustice rampant within our realms I feel compelled to scrawl a few thoughts of my own for the consideration of the people.

True, I have been a bit of a recluse for quite some time now. I find my solitude not only more secure for my own personal safety but more in line with maintaining my own sanity, as I am oft ruled by my passions and the world in which we live is one of constant flaming of fires within myself. However, such passionate rhetoric displayed by miss Patterson brings me back to a time in which I too put myself at the forefront of change, a social revolution against an oppressive occupier in the north. I endured much hardship and sacrifice as I sought to see the people represented properly and the imperialist forces removes so that the rule of law not-martial could return and peace and prosperity once again become the rule of the day.

I have been in seclusion for so long it seems once again things have gotten to the point of such devolution. Desperate people are dangerous people, especially when their will and concerns are not met by the powers that be. I must in part disagree with miss Patterson’s proposal, however impassioned, however, for a world-wide uniting of the lower tier of society. True, the rule of the nobility is waning, given the continued absence of our sovereign and the ensuing power struggles that pit region against region as each vies for power over the other – power over the people who work the fields, manufacture the trade goods, and fight the wars of the elite. I have long sought change in the system, first by working within it, then more actively against in as was the case of the northern crisis.

Yet, I write now in the hopes of cooling inflamed passions of open rebellion. Change can occur in two ways, by force of arms, or by deliberation among rational types. We have seen so much bloodshed over the years that it ought be clear by now that such is not the way in which change is enacted. The elite still hold the monopoly of force. Even a mob of ten angry peasants will fall to one highly trained protector of any realm, be it Yew, Cove, or Trinsic. Such bloodshed is not the will of the elite, indeed, they wish only for the dulled masses to continue on at their toil and seek to fatten themselves by the fruit of such. Outward displays of angry, unguided force will only be met with brutal suppression however, and both sides will lose. The lower classes will bleed, and the upper elite will fret about the growing discontent of the populace.

So what’s to be done?

A gradual change in governance must be enacted, I would wager. A new system ought be put into place. One in which the landed aristocracy of Barons, Dukes, Earls, et al, is perpetuated, but in a much more diminished, ceremonial capacity. Obviously though, the uninformed masses should also not be allowed to run roughshod in the halls of law and foreign policy, lest the realms all fall into disorder and petty violence again. Instead, some form of commonwealth, that great leviathan of order and law ought be enacted, with the public sword firmly in the hands of those elected by the people to keep those with delusions of violent rebellion in fearful awe. The nobility, as has been witnessed, has little concern for the well-being of their protectorate, as the poor continue to breed more poor and continue to work the fields and die for rhetoric schemed in the top echelons of power and spun as worthy causes for war.

No more. Even in this age of continued strife and uncertainty, there has arisen a middle class of investors, professionals, artisans, and intellectuals, who could steer the ship of state more surely than its hereditary dynastic rulers of the past. A rule more accountable to the people, voted in by those who have a stake in society and have cause for concern of its well-being. By “the people” I infer those of some kind of landholders, care takers of various parcels of property, or estate owners of larger business ventures and market capital. One thing remains certain: Despite the outcome of any conflict, commerce remains.

I would urge those of the lower classes to seek out their landlords, their employers, the wealthy, yet underprivileged due to their lack of birthright in our current system to bring the noble power elite to the bargaining table and seek some kind of resolution that would place the reigns of power in the hands of those who actually hold a stake in the prosperity of their location.

I am hardly in a position to put my hat in such a ring, though I would surely be willing to advise anyone who sought out my wisdom in such matters. I prefer my ambiguous solitude in my various laboratories, libraries, and extra-planar ventures, but I am easily contacted.

I would like to add that what is penned above is in no way a call for the removal of the landed nobility by any bloody means. These are rational, well-educated people, and it would do the society much good should they be retained if for ceremony and council if nothing more. The will of the people must be manifested, as the times we live in are changing rapidly and all-too violently. However, the tyranny of an uninformed majority is just as dangerous as the ineffectual will of a few elites in smoke-filled rooms. Thus the system suggested above, some kind of middle-class ruler ship through a continued dialogue between the upper and lower ends of society.

This has been a longwinded letter, and my ink well grows low, I will end by saying I have hope for a better Sosaria, and I fought and bled for that ideal long ago. Now I write and think for it, and I find that a much better use of my energy.

In Faith,
Lyim Rashidat.

Open Letter to Taggart and his Templars,

Templars, you cannot have but noticed that Taggart has been acting strangely; some of the more magically inclined may have seen the strange creeping blackness across his skin.

I have been working to lift this curse that I - inadvertently - caused for you to suffer from. You must know that the powers of the Box have grown since I have deactivated three of them; please return to me the Control Box and the other box you hold.

Flame has seen sense; she has returned to me the box she retrieved from the Moonglow Beer Garden, and although she will not easily forgive me for what I did, she understands that the best chance to destroy the boxes - and fix what I broke - lies with me.

Taggart, Templars, I implore you. Please return the two boxes that you hold to me.

I will, quite happily, travel to your grounds on the Saturday evening. Failing that, I am certain that a meeting in the peaceful environment of the Empath Abbey will not be amiss.

I will ensure that I am present in the Abbey at 8pm on Saturday, unless I should hear otherwise from you.

I thank you,

Muldran Skully

Vesparian Elections Announced!

The land of the free chooses its new head honcho!

Thats right, readers. The Baron of Vesper, the Merchants guild of Vesper, the Militia Command of Vesper and the Mint and Gold Reserves of Vesper have begun preparations for the next Vesparian election. Who can vote, some may ask? The Vesparian authorities have already declared what makes a man eligible, and we relay this to you, our beloved readers.
1. If ya reside in Vesper , ya may vote.
2. If ya have ya occupation in Vesper , ya may vote.
3. If ya do ya trade in Vesper , ya may vote.
4. If ya family lives in Vesper and ya havn't got another citizenship then Vespers, yet make ya living elsewhere , ya may vote.
5. If ya own land in Vesper, ya may vote.

No word of what happens to those who try to impersonate or claim to be eligible to try and throw off the northerners elections, but given the reaction of the Vesper Militia to most slights; you can assume it will be met with violence. The election date is set for the 28th of March (20:00GMT), at the Town Square of Vesper - presumably that next to the Vesparian Bank.

So if your eligible, be sure to vote for the right man. The North is crazy enough without a crazy man on the top spot.

=================================

Vesper declares Yewish Alliance out of the question!
Thank goodness for that

Your suspicious reporter had only heard rumours of Vesparians and Yewmen meeting and discussing how best to do away with (what was at the time) their mutual enemies in Cove and Trinsic - but now it seems that the Vesparian's have not only confirmed that the talks had taken place, but that they have rejected the Yewish proposals - which are said to have included full recognition of Minoc as West Vesper, and joint assaults on both Cove and Trinsic. Alot of people aren't fans of either nation, but everyone knows that mixing the tin-men of Yew with Vesper's arm-waving magicians would have made for a serious threat to the wellbeing of just about everyone.

How will Yew react to the rejection of their proposals? Indeed, how will Trinsic and Cove react to the telling that such talks have in fact happened at all?

==========================

Vesparians seeking skilled craftsmen and cartographers

To forge more weapons, build ships with which to invade, and then finally the right people to map out their possible new territory of "South Vesper" in the lands that we at present call the Duchy of Trinsic? Or something somewhat less sinister? One thing is for sure, history has proven that the Vesparians rarely announce a need for extra help unless it is as a prelude to something much bigger than they're letting on. The call is specifically for the following:
• Lumberjacks, Carpenters, Shipbuilders Sailors for a new fleet of vessels.
• Cartographers to create a grand new map of the Vesparian provinces.

Interested? Find a member of the Vesper Militia.

Covian's Sail the High Seas!
Snippet from the Covian News

There had been hints and rumours, but this day it was finally confirmed - Cove was a naval power once again!

The Covian Navy Reborn

The Baron hosted a special Promotions Parade at the Covian Docks and spoke of the previous navies. The first had been sunk by the orcs and the second had been sunk by Ryan Greystone. But the Baron decided it it was high time for Cove to rule the waves. The Baron revealed that he had "scoured the ranks of the Covian officers" but sadly he had to make do with Garak.

Garak Nightchill: The best of what was left

Officer Cadet Garak Nightchill, formerly of the Light Company, was formally promoted to Lieutenant, the naval equivelent of Sergeant, and unveiled the new Naval uniform. Those wishing to join the navy can speak with Lt. Nightchill for information.

The Baron then revealed that a creature had been lurking in the depths of the Covian loch, and that those assembled would now set sail to defeat it! The Covians, willing and unwilling, then boarded the H.B.S Battleborn and set sail. Despite some near misses, the Lieutenant managed to navigate the ship into deeper waters, and began casting nets into the sea to attract the vicious creature of the deep.

Cove rules the waves!

The creatures of the deep then attacked the Covians but were not match for these seafaring stalwarts! After killing the serpents and krakens, the Covians then lured something even bigger... A Leviathan!

Krakens off the starboard bow!

Despite some injuries, the beast was slain, the wounded healed and the creature corpses thrown overboard. The ship returned safely to Cove, though Exploring Officer Eason was declared Missing. No doubt he'll wash ashore sooner or later....

Safely ashore

Rumours

According to my sources savages have been sighted near Trinsic! Beware!

And are Vierna's lackies going soft? I saw with my own two eyes one of her closest 'friends' speaking with Lady Lover Jaraxle Von'Sah. The HORROR!

Moonglow Under Attack!

It seems that Dark Wisps have invaded the Lycaneum of Moonglow and also the Dungeon in Ilshenar known as "Wisp Dungeon".

These dark versions of the normally friendly wisps [friendly unless you happen to be a brutal murdering lying cheating cad - the wisps know you know!] are appearing more commonly around the lands and they leave behind strange chests when killed.

But what language do they speak?

Do they speak differently from their pinky cousins?

Many are worried for the major works of arcane knowledge allegedly held in secret vaults under Moonglow and more worrying is the Lycaneum's helpful [if not too bright] workers from the Ashen Circle!

Vesper News

Your darling reporter Lola Rennt here.

Spent an interesting evening chatting with Rand "Quickie" Darkmore... Loose lips sink ships - the port of Vesper should be flooded with sunken wrecks at this rate.

Not only did the over-the-hill-soldier take great pleasure in telling how an aggressive troop of Vesperians and Covians slaughtered not only the guards of Stonekeep, but had no compunction about running through the women and the children, on the command of one Hrothgar.

Your distressed reporter managed to keep the dirty old man from going to far as he also imparted the cringingly embarassing news about House Davion being impotent - no doubt some back handed attempt to try and show that the Poste is making things up. Your darling reporter Lola Rennt here.

Your intrepid reporter was also threatened by a group calling themselves 'Courtiers' - nothing courtly about this lot!

The one in dark armor may have used nice words, but the helmet-head one - when questioned about the Shadow Court's recent involvement in the disaster that hit Moonglow - reacted violently, threatening to view the Poste, and freedom of speech as a dark force!

Their posturing against a lone Templar didn't help matters either - and as for the girl in the red dress with the dead cat on her head - she even threatened to cast a spell to scare your darling reporter away! Well, the Poste is made of sterner stuff, and will stand up against this all-new all-sinister Shadow Court!

Klion D’Gar A Hero for our times

It seems that to some the uncouth youth of Yew are little more than savages. To others however, Klion and the Yewmen are the saviours of the facet! Their no nonsense approach to heretics and those who dabble in magic is to be admired not criticized.

If there were less mages around and less “necromancers” – 10 a penny conjurors who can “raise the dead” – the facet would be a much safer place.

So I say – go and burn the deviants Klion!

Be Pure.
Be Vigilant.
Behave.

Where is the Commander?

Cal Soulshadow – buxom beauty with her eye on any loose men and rumored to have thighs which could rip a mans finger off – seems to have gone awol – and at the same time grumpy drunkard General Paladis seems to have emerged from an alcoholic induced stupor. Coincidence? Or is one of them just the other in disguise?

On a serious note – any news of the commander’s whereabouts would be welcome.

Cove is Under Attack!

Not from Twothumbs Vesper Militia – but from a colony of wood eating weevils the size of a pin head. Alchemists and scholars say the attack could have serious implications for the town of Cove and its inhabitants – watch this space!

NuJelm?

Has anyone seen the latest craze from Nujelm?

People have been "throwing" themselves off the cliffs of Sosaria and swimming around in the sea baiting the local dolphins. When a dolphin gets close enough the crazy loons have been grabbing its dorsal fin and being dragged along through the "surf" as they call it.

Whatever next?

Hairdressers who dont charge a fortune for a 20 second haircut?

Todays Edition is brought to you by the lonely Hooded Claw

Reward

If anyone sees this bird there is a substantial reward for capturing it. It is some sort of mechanical clockwork device which has for some years been seen flying across the skies of Sosaria.

It answers to the name "Bubo" sometimes but is currently somewhat unpredicatable.

Ye New Spiritwood Tavern: New Management!

April 10th, 2007

The Spiritwood Tavern knows a very long history, going back to before Trammel was even discovered, and today we started yet another chapter.
When we re-opened the Tavern in January this year we were essentially squatters. We got consent from one of the old employees (Thanks Jenny!) but the owner, The Red Wizard AKA Pad O'Lion, was nowhere to be found. Jenny could only grant us very limited access to the buildings facilities but we managed to run the Tavern pretty succesfully nonetheless.
This situation lasted up untill today. For today The Red Wizard finally returned to his tavern and after seeing all the hard work we put into it he decided to let the squatters keep the building!

We emmediately got out our 'dream tavern file', hired contractors and started planning. After almost a week of intense labor, hours of carpenting, tinkering and moving around furniture, the work is finally done.
Europa Auction & Events is proud to present the New Ye New Spiritwood Tavern!

Opening hours: Every Thursday evening at 21.00 GMT / 22.00 CET
Coordinates: 62o 8'S, 27o 16'W, just east of the Europa Auction house at the end of the road from Skara Brae

Emissary Arrested Shock!

Today, at an early morning raid the Templar Guards lead by Sergeant Landrell arrested Sari-Liane and charged her with crimes of Heresy. It is suspected that her act of volence with Kiran and the owners of the Swaggers was the final straw for the Templars. Although the Duty Office declined to allow us to talk to the Emissary they have released the following public statement:

This morning Templar Guards arrested the Emissary at her office. Sergeant Landrell charged her with the following crimes:

- Public disagreement of the ethics, laws and faith
- Cursing the Holy Family
- Act Of Heresy towards the faith

These were in relation to a number of offenses carried out over the past three weeks not limited to but including: Assaulting a member of the public, Surrendering without the consent of the High Council, Blasemphy and Directive acts of a chaotic nature.

It has been decided that a trial will need to be set with a council of Magistrates and Peers to decide her fate. This will be announced shortly. Templar Sergeant Landrell has been nominated as her prosecutor and Sari has asked not to be represented.

The Emissary has also asked that we announce that because of these charges, she has been removed from office and is no-longer Emissary to the People. As with the ways of the Silvarius Masters, she has been removed from their scriptures and ordences.

I thank you for your time.

Templar Sergeant Landrell
Prosecutor

As of yet there has been no word as who will replace Sari-Liane, however the Dragoni Templars are still in a state of shock and it appears that a state of martial law within the complex has been ordered. I will report more as information becomes available.
