Re: Fall of the Temple Seldarine

On hearing word of the defeat of the Justicars and the fall of the Temple, Pirate Bob began having a large funnel attacked to the bow of The Duchess. The funnel was attached to swivel and had a large hose leading to a large hand pump with a huge kettle attached the pump. A brazier of coal heated the kettle. The kettle contained a concoction of sulfur, lime, petroleum, and calcium phosphide. Dante looked towards the crew, “Don’t allow water to mix in with the solution in the kettle. Those are the instructions from Seldarelle Eowyna as she had written them in the book “Wanwa Sinta en' i' Gwaith” The crew looked puzzled “What is calcium phoshide?” Dante smiled “calcium phoside is made from made by heating lime, bones and charcoal. It’s a key ingredient.” Pirate Bob “Aye, get back to work. Tis a secret weapon.” And the parrot Amar squawks“…. Secret weapon…Secret weapon….”

A moongate open in Skara Brae and the defeated Justicars began exiting the gate. They were met by entourage of healers who began treaging and healing the most serious. A make shift hospital was set up in the Skara Brae Community Center. Maddux rested in a chair as the healers removed arrows from his body. Maddux looked at Jareth “Organize a defense for a counter-attack” Jareth nodded and began preparations for a counter-attack. Maddux turn and looked at group of children dawned in hunter’s garb clothing holding elven hunting bows “I need you to break down into smaller groups and search for survivers. Do not get involved in any protracted fights” The group of children responded with “Aye!!” and was off beginning the search for survivers. An elven healer named Starex asks “Has Lady Eowyna been found?” Maddux shakes his head side to side “No, nor is she dead. I would feel it if she was.” Starex “Should you not be out there looking for her?” Maddux coldly stares “I would, but she asks that we defend the Temple, and if we cant defend the Temple, we defend the elves. She’s alive, I can feel that much.”

From high above in the crow’s nest of The Duchess, Amar squawked “tis plunder on the horizon…..” Pirate Bob lifts his spyglass and spots the Orchish Longships in the distance. Pirate Bob grins “Man your battle stations, set a course for them orkies.”

Steward the town cryer yelled “The Orcs are coming. To arms!!! Defend the coastline!!” With those words echoing the town, every able bodied Elf and Human picked up a weapon and made their way to the coast. Gathered along the coastline all watched as the lone sailing ship The Duchess sailed out to meet the orc ships. Maddux watched from the coastline “That Crazy Pirate..” and smiled.

Pirate Bob manned a funnel contraption device mounted on the bow of the ship. Dante was down in the the hull insuring that the kettle was heated to the proper attention. Langford and Scafford feverishly worked the pump to build pressure. Amar piloted The Duchess directly towards the orc longships. Amar sqwacks “Blood on the water…..”. As The Duchess closed within 40 meters of the orc long ships, a loud swoosh could be heard and a dark oily liquid spewed from the funnel. On contact with water, calcium phosphide in the oilly dark liquid releases phospine, which ignites spontaneously and the sea was ablaze in fire that reached down almost 1 meter into the water. The orc long ships were soon ablaze and the cries of the orcs could be heard. Amar sqwacks “Orc crispy’s…..Orc Crispy’s” From the shore line louds cheers could be heard.

Starex looks towards Maddux and asks “What was that weapon that was used?” Maddux grins “Its Elven fire, a secret of the elves long lost and found through hard work by Eowyna and the Temple.” Amongst the shoreline the defenders began to cheer as the The Duchess sailed back into harbor.

Re: Fall of the Temple Seldarine

Viewed from across the surrounding void the walls of Umbra were dark and forbidding. Eowyna had traveled through the night emerging from the forest just as dawn broke, but the light did nothing to relieve the gloom that pervaded the human city known for dark magic, bloodletting and foul dungeons. She took a deep breath, steeling herself to enter the city and face its human inhabitants, for there was no other route to Skara Brae. A twig snapped behind her, and she whirled around to face an elven girl just a few years from adulthood. The girl was tall and graceful and handled her bow with the ease of great skill despite her youth. She had been well trained at a young age. “Ya naa llie ent mankoi naa llie sinome?”

The girl hesitated for only a moment. “I am the eldest child of Astalder and Debras.” She held her head high, but unshed tears stood in her eyes. “The Justicars saw my parents fall defending the Temple Seldarine. I, and my companions, seek survivors of the destruction of the Temple so that we may escort them to Skara Brae. I take it you are one such?”

“Yes,” replied Eowyna, “but you will find no others. I was the last to leave. Gather your fellow searchers and return to Skara Brae. I am on my way there now. The Justicars…..?” The question trailed off unfinished.

“Are in Skara Brae as well, at least those who are left,” said the girl hesitantly. And then, “the battle did not go well for us, lady.”

“I had not supposed that it did,” said Eowyna softly, and turned to cross the bridge into the city as the girl whistled a shrill birdcall to signal her companions.

The elf woman forced herself to breathe normally as she skirted the edge of the city and entered the black moongate. The air, as she stepped out of the gate into Skara Brae, was clean, but the atmosphere of the town was tense. The first person she saw as she entered was the Justicar, Honor Frost, a white bandage showing brightly from underneath his helm. He had been restringing and refurbishing his bow in the plaza before the community center, but stopped to stare at her.

“Maddux……?” she could barely get the name out.

“Is in there,” said Frost, pointing toward the community center, “checking on his wounded men.” And before he could finish, she was running toward the door of the building. She checked herself as she opened the door, glancing quickly about the room. He was standing toward the back of the room, deep in conversation with Jareth. It was the expression on his face that stopped her—grim, and hard as stone.
Eowyna took an inadvertent step backward. She couldn’t approach him with this now. It was neither the time nor the place. He had more than enough to deal with already. It was enough to see him here. So she turned away and collided with a Justicar, Annwfn, just coming from guard duty to report.

“Ann!” she gasped, the breath temporarily knocked out of her by the collision with platemail, “will you tell him that I am here?” as she backed out the door.

“Eowyna….??” Ann was hesitant, staring much as Honor Frost had done. “I…well, yes, of course I will tell him. But you….you look….well, dirty, to be frank. Twigs and leaves in your hair, and you smell like you’ve been swimming in the fishing pond! We have rooms at the inn. Go there, and…..well……. I’ll give you a bit of time before I relay your message.” Ann wrinkled her nose and stepped back a pace or two. Eowyna fled toward the inn.

The water was cold, her hands shook as she fastened fresh clothing, and the bed looked awfully tempting. She couldn’t decide which was worse: stay and face him when he had time to find her, or leave and not be available when he sought her. She couldn’t decide if it even mattered one way or the other. In perspective, her own troubles weren’t very important at all—her loss was hers alone.

In the end, she decided that busy was best, and left the inn to seek the collection of books at the Town Hall. Skara Brae was old elf country and many of the preserved volumes were elven chronicles—perhaps one of them would have the information she was looking for: a means of identifying the city she had seen in the surface of the water, the city to which she knew that should retreat. She took the small glowing green rune with her and made her way to the Town Hall. There was a young man there, examining the dusty volumes, and she recognized him immediately as the acolyte from the Temple Seldarine, Finnlayen.

“Hello,” she said, and he turned. “Have you been examining the elven works?” she smiled.

“Yes,” he seemed surprised. “You got out. I thought…… How are you?”

“I am fine. I wonder, did you recover the Mirror of Purification from the Temple?”

He didn’t think she looked fine, but said nothing to contradict her. “Yes, Lady, I did. I have it with the elemental statues, but I’m afraid that’s all I managed to come away with.”

“Would it trouble you to have someone take it to my room at the inn? Fenmarel has shown me how to use it. I’ll no longer have to rely upon Heartwood to guide my visions; the clear crystal water of the mirror will serve as seeing surface. I didn’t know at the time why Labelas Enoreth led us to recover it, but I begin to understand now. I suppose there is always a reason why things happen…” she let the sentence die away.

“Yes, of course. I will bring it myself. I’ll fetch it there now in fact,” and hurried out.

Eowyna examined the volumes on the shelves and at last found one that she sought. A chronicle of the first age of elves. She thought that would be the best place to start, work forward if she had to. But in fact, finding what she wanted was much easier that she thought. It seemed the city she had seen was the premier center of civilization in the first age: and its name was Gondolin. The descriptions of the site exactly matched what she had seen. The people, just as Fenmarel had told her, had become scattered exiles. So, it seemed they were meant to follow these elves into exile, to seek them, and their knowledge, for the finest of Elven works had been wrought in Gondolin. But she knew they would find no city there, the chronicles described ruins, and she had seen as much in the vision. Where they would go from the ruins of Gondolin, she had no idea. Perhaps the Mirror of Purification could help her, or perhaps they’d simply have to trust to the gods to guide them. She replaced the tome on the dusty shelves.

Eowyna returned to the inn. The Mirror of Purification was sitting on a table, but otherwise the room was exactly as she had left it. She lay down on the bed, and before falling asleep, she wept as though her heart was broken; for it was.

Re: Fall of the Temple Seldarine

Eowyna’s arrival at Skara Brae spread through the town like a wild fire, instilling hope and courage once more into the survivor’s of the great betrayal. Upon hearing of Eowyna’s return, Maddux quickly made his way to Skara Brae Inn. A multitude of ideas and thoughts were racing through Maddux’s mind. Is Eowyna ok? Is there anything that can be done? Those thoughts were interrupted as the Inn Keeper pointed down the hall “She is in our best room.” Maddux nods and says “Thank you” And walks down the hall. Pausing outside Eowyna’s room checks his appearance and knocks on the door “Its Maddux.” From inside the room, Eowyna replies “Please come inside.”

Maddux entered the room and quickly laid his eyes on his Eowyna. Without anything being said, Maddux knew that their child had been lost without any words being exchanged between the two. Maddux and Eowyna both walked into each’s others arms and began to weep. Some time went by, before either of them released their grasp on one and another. Tears dripping from their eyes, Eowyna and Maddux tried concentrating on the matter of organizing and taking care of the survivors. A green glowing rune and some old and dusty elven preserved volumes. One of the volumes was open to a page of Fenmarel as a wolf. Maddux focus his attention towards that picture. Maddux smiles “Steganography...” Eowyna gives Maddux a puzzled look. Maddux says “Steganography is the art of writing a hidden message that no one but the intended recipient knows of the exsistenance of the message. In this the case the message is a map.” Eowyna comes closer and Maddux points out the map to her. Maddux I do not know where this location is, but we can find it. First thing to do is send scouts to that location on the rune.” Eowyna nods in agreement. Maddux with a concerned look on his face, “The only scouts we have are the children.”

Braaka the Orc scout stealth’s through the town of Skara Brae. Thinking to himself, The big War Boss wants to know what these hummies are up to and what others tricks they have hidden. No walls or barricades have been erected. Only lightly armored rangers mixed with the dreaded Justicars, but that evil ship The Duchess has not come to port, yet. The rest of the Orc scouts moved through the streets of Skara Brae taking notes of the layout of the town and its ill prepared defenses.

Eowyna looked at Maddux “But they are children, and they have been through so much.” Maddux says “Yes we all have been through a lot. Hope for our future lays within the hands of the children. We need them to go out and see if they locate this place on Fenmarel’s map. A few of the remaining Justicars we have, will accompany you to the location on the rune. As much as I wish to hold you and keep you safe, Fenmarel has chosen you to go to this place.” Eowyna nods in agreement. Maddux holds Eowyna’s hand “The remainder of us will hold this city till we hear from you. The older of the children will form small groups and try to locate this place on the map.” Confidence and reassurance flowed from each other’s hand and together they both knew that anything was possible together. A glimmer of hope was born and soon began to spread throughout Skara Brae.

Re: Fall of the Temple Seldarine

Eowyna watched the bright moonlight of the double full moons of Felucca and Trammel streaming through the windows of the Skara Brae Inn. She was exhausted, but sleep eluded her. Instead, she studied the man sleeping next to her. The fresh wound on his shoulder looked raw and painful. Very carefully, so as not to wake him, she touched her fingers to the wound and whispered "In Vas Mani". There, that would be a little better in the morning. But there would be a scar--another one, one of many. She let her fingers linger a little, lightly. He stirred a little and she quickly drew back. She just wanted to watch him; if she slept, she couldn't see him. For tomorrow she would leave him again and that was the last thing she wanted, but there seemed to be no other choice. And so she just watched for as long as the moonlight lasted.

Morning light found her standing in a place she'd never have thought possible. Accompanied by the justicar, Ann, the master-crafter, Feanor, and a group of younger children, Eowyna had stepped through the gate created with the rune given her by the wolf. This place was obviously the home of a different culture than the Sosaria of her experience. The architecture was beautiful and elegant, but strange to her eyes. And the people--were human. She took an inadvertent step backwards; she would never again look upon humans without fear. But she resolved to train herself not to show it. The city was foreign indeed.

Eowyna turned to the children. "I want you to stealth through the city and bring me all the information you can as to the layout of the city. Listen to the people talk, so that you may tell me what and how they think. I see no harm here for us, but take no risks. Just gather information." The children left to follow her request.

Ann looked about, "Eowyna, are we meant to be here? This place is not elven."

"No, it certainly isn't. But Fenmarel gave me the rune to this place..he must have meant for us to come here. We need a home, and this must be where we will find it."

Feanor: "I will do a little checking as well, Eowyna. Perhaps in the crafters halls there will be contacts I can make."

And so the small elven party began to assemble information and make contacts among the humans of Zento. The Imperial Trade Minister proved to be most helpful, agreeing to provide buildings for an Elven Enclave in Zento in exchange for goods of fine elven craftsmenship. Trade concessions were negotiated and shipping priviledges granted by the Zento port authority. And slowly a home was built. Yet no word arrived from Skara Brae. Eowyna waited.

Re: Fall of the Temple Seldarine

The oldest of the orphans were brought to the Skara Brae Community Center and were seperated into seven groups of four. The groups were composed of two males and two females. The Elven Healer Starex gave each of them a minthril chain with minthril wolf pendant, “Safe Guard this pendant, for it is how we will find you.” The Orphans and the few Justicars there watched and listened to the Healer intently. “Some of you will travel to another shard and search for Exiles of Gondolin and Elven Artifacts, but there are dangers.” Starex looks at his audience for any sign of fear amongst the crowd, and found none. Starex looks at the group “At this precise time, we have no way to communicate with any of you nor bring any of you back.” Maddux steps out of the shadows “Some of you may not return, but it is chance we must all take. The survival of the Quessir is depending upon all of us.” Maddux begins to pass out maps made from Fenmarel’s picture and a book to each of the groups “Do not lose this map; we do not know the location, nor what will be found there. The books are a history and customs of the Quessir and help aid you in your mission. Take a moment to say your goodbyes to one and another.”

Astalder and Debras son and daughter left their respective groups and walked over to each over to each and began to hug one and another. Aerial looked at her brother “We have lost so much these past few days, and now I will lose you too.” Kennereth said, “You will never lose me, for you will always be in your heart as you are in mine. Mom and Dad are here with us now, we will make them proud”

Starex glances at Maddux “Perhaps we can accommodate the brother and sister?” Maddux “No, if we fail they will not be able to return. Our failure should not mean that The Quessir becomes destroyed. The Quessir will live on, through them.” Starex nod’s in agreement. Maddux “They will live on and avenge us when it is time.”

After a few moments that felt like a lifetime, Maddux commands “Form up, it is time.” And the groups reformed into their respective groups. Starex opened a red gate and pointed at the nearest group and they single filed entered the gate. Starex handed each of the remaining groups a strange red, black and white medallion. “Your destinies are chosen. Good luck to each of you.” One by one the children began to disappear. In the distance “Orcs are in the perimeter!!!” Starex looks at at Maddux “Never a moment of peace.” Maddux grins, “Someday, there will be, but not today.”
