Next to the fire place, cherishing the flickering light, Maddux dipped the quil in the ink, and carefully wrote:

While the rest of this world may be so hateful,
for one thing on earth am I ever grateful
Though this place is dark and the future bland,
this brilliant flame I hold in my hand

Pausing at the slightest noise outside. Maddux unsheaths his daggers. Each Dagger forged from minthril, balanced and etched by light. As the light flickered, one can see the reflection of the elixir of life on the daggers. Satisfied, no would be assasin's were outside, Maddux continued writing his thoughts on the parchment.

I treasure this light and its rarity I value,

Maddux stared at the fire place in distant thought. A time and place of long ago, but in his mind it was as if it was happening now. Her beauty struck him like a comet. Blonde hair spilled from a cresent of jewelled silk, gathered around her shoulders like iridescent oil, framing her full lips, and blue eyes perfectly. Her Ivory silk dress flirted with decency, with a golden pendant hanging in her ample clevage. The mere thought of seeing her for the first time, brought a smile to Maddux's face. Maddux dipped the quil in the ink and continued to write.

This flickering light of which I speak,

Carefully folding the parchment, and placing it in an envelope. Smiling with pride, Maddux placed the envelope under the ribbon adorned on a beautifully wrapped gift box. Returning the daggers in one fluid motion of speed and grace to their sheath, Maddux picked up the gift, and slipped out into the cold dark night.
