San Diego

It was an over cast day, but still the beauty and tranquility of the Pacific Ocean can not be taken away.

Mount Soledad Veteran's Memorial. I know how my father felt when he glanced upon the Viet Nam War Memorial and you recognize a name of a friend upon the Memorial. I hope none of you ever have that feeling. God Bless those who know that feeling and Bless those who don't so they never feel it.

Is that the cross the ACLU (damn them) is trying to get demolished?

Re: San Diego

The juxtaposition of the above 2 picture brings to mind something written by Richard Eden in 1555 as a tribute to the great English pioneering navigtors Diccon Chancellor and John Dee:

"There is no land uninhabitable or sea unnavigable."
"They made the whole world to hang in the air."

May you sail where others have sailed before, Corporal Chris, for there are no words for what you have given the world.

Re: San Diego

I really enjoyed the 2 years I was stationed in San Diego. We went back there for vacation last year. I miss the stink of the ships a lot!

I'm not sure of the name of the sailing vessel pictured (Star of India?? comes to mind) We used to go there for re-enlistment ceremonies. A lot of sailors like to re-enlist on the decks of a real ship.

Re: San Diego

Yes the sailing ship is the Star of India. I used to catch the West Pac in Hawaii and sail back to San Diego. I truly miss the ships.
