What's In A Name

As told by Katharine...

Katharine kicked her feet up on the table with the book in her lap. Leaning her head back she looked up at the stone ceiling of the library where she had been spending much of her time lately. Staring at the cracks in the ceiling she kept thinking of the name she had gotten from her dream. The first one she had ever intentionally had. Dream that is. Kat smiled, as this pesky old librarian came shuffling in his robes fluttering out behind him.

"No no, feet do not belong on the table." he whispered harsly, pushing at her feet.
"Don't, old man." she smiled showing her fangs. "I care not to be touched, if you get my meaning." she said softly, looking into his eyes.
"Y..ye..yes, Madam, b..but fee..feet do n..not belong on..on the tables." he stammered.
"Then simply ask me to move them and I shall do so, but never touch me." she said quietly as she pulled her feet off the table, placing the book atop it instead.
"Tell me something, Father, is there another book with the history of the Britannian guard roll call from say.... 20 years ago around?"
"No, madam, I'm afraid you have seen all we have for that time period." he smiled nervously at the woman in red. "Is there someone in particular you are looking for?"
"Aye, a soldier by the name of Ellesar... I forget the last name, but I believe he went by Fallon during his service." she sighed, leaning her arms on the table with her chin resting on her hands looking at the monk.
The monk's eyes widen and he stumbled back just a few steps, but it was enough for her to notice that something wasn't right.
"No... no one has asked for that name in many many years." he stuttered, half frightened. "I'm... I'm sorry... but... but I'm gonna.. have to ... ask.. you to leave."
"Leave? I don't think so, tell me what you know."
"Leave now, or I shall have to call the guards and have you escorted out." he said walking backwards away from her.
"Call them, but I'm not leaving until I hear what you have to say." she stood up, pulling her sword belt off the back of the chair, tying it around her waist.
The monk walked back towards her, whispering harsly. "You will leave madam, and you will never speak that name again unless you're just looking for trouble, now get out." With that he turned and walked away quickly.

Katharine walked out of the library more curious than angry. Looking around she saw a few guards heading her way, and thinking quickly she walked down the street, pulling a cloak from her pack that would hide her from sight. Walking quietly, she cleared the outskirts of the city and opened a gate to Otto's. Stepping up the front stairs, she knocked quietly on the door and waited.

Otto's faithful scribe opened the door at the sound of knocking, looking around it appeared as if no one was there. Katharine smiled and pulled the hood of her cloak back, chuckling at little at Bea's fightened squeal.

"Hello, Beatrice. Didn't mean to startle you. Is Otto home?" Kat smiled softly at the little elven woman.
"Aye! Mistress Katharine, you should learn not to frighten a body so. I know you have a talent for sneaking around, but do try to keep it for outside." Bea smiled a little, never having really gotten used to vampires wandering about, and shooed the woman inside out of the snow. "Wait here... I'll fetch him."
"Thank you." Kat grinning as she pulled off her gloves and cloak, just as Bea yelled out Otto's name with a list of other unmentionable phrases, and Kat just chuckled softly.
"Katharine, what brings you out this way?" Otto smiled, looking in the general direction of the front door, and jumped when Katharine spoke from beside him.
"Good evening Otto, sorry to disturb you so late, I know you must be busy." she smiled as she hugged him.
"Non sense, sit down sit down. What can I help you with?" he smiled, walking over to a chair and sitting.
Katharine chuckled and plopped into the chair in front of him, still amazed at how he could move so well for a blind man, but she had her suspicons about that one. "Actually I'm here on business. I was wondering, do you still have anymore of that potion to get to that other place?"
"Well what in the bloody world do ye want that stuff for?" Otto huffed, hoping that that business had been solved already.
"I'm in need of some information, and that is the only place I can seem to think of finding it. Do you still have some?" she sighed.
Otto's face scrunched up for a moment then he called out to Bea. "We still have some more of that potion, you know the blue stuff from before?"
Bea tugged at her hands nervously before answering quietly. "Aye, some, but I got rid of most when... " she bit her lip "I'll go check."
She came back with a small vial and held it out nervously to the vampiress. "You.. you will come back won't you?"
Katharine chuckled and smiled up at Bea. "Aye I will, thank you both." and with that she walked out the front door before pulling her cloak back on, hearing Otto whisper inside "Mithras, guide and protect her. I fear she will need it."
Smiling she walked far enough away from Wintermoor, then used but a few drops of the liquid to reopen a portal she never thought she would go through again.

*smiles at Spyder*

Tell Kat that it is a lovely tale. Yet it would be better hearing it in her voice, then yours!

Re: What's In A Name

Katharine stepped through the portal, coughing at the foul stench that invaded her senses. Blinking rapidly, she pulled the shades from her eyes and tucked them into the front of her top, allowing her eyes to adjust to the darkness. Looking around she spotted several demons edging their way to her, and she stopped...

"Bother me and I shall send you back to your maker in scraps." she hissed at them.
"Itsss her! Ssshe'sss back. Tell the massster." one of the creatures hissed, pulling at her cloak, before getting a boot to his face.
"I warned you not to bother me." she growled down at the thing. "Touch me again and you will lose that hand. Now where is he? Where is the one that calls himself lord of this ... pathetic little place?"
"He is here, milady, and do try to keep your insults to a minimum. You are but one, and I can not guarantee your safety if you insult my servants overly much." the man smiled and walked towards her.
"Really, is that form necessary? It hardly appeals to your evil side, Nigrel." Katharine sneered.
"Well I find most human and elven females much prefer me like this. So I keep it. After all what kind of evil lord am I if I can not convince ladies to join me every now and then?" he grinned down at her, offering his arm.
"Charming does not work on me, so you can cut it out. I need to speak with you, the real you. Lose the form." she ground out, ignoring the arm and walked into the candle lit chamber, sitting in the throne.
He sneered at her and waved his hand, changing back to his normal lich form. "My my the little princess, are we? That would be my chair you are sitting in, so remove yourself from it."
"I will not. It is my chair for so long as I decide it to be. You will find another." she smiled sweetly.
He glared at her and snapped his fingers for another chair to be brought. "I only allow it because I am curious as to what you want. I could easily have you removed should I choose, but I will be generous today."
Katharine laughed. "Nigrel, you choose nothing. Don't flatter yourself. You only hold your position as lord because we allowed you to live, or should I say my husband did. Now tell me what you know."
"About? I know alot, so you need to be a bit more specific, princess." he smiled coyly.
"You know what about. Don't think I don't know you keep close watch on us." she hissed.
"Ahhh, that father you've been looking for. Having trouble in Britian?" he chuckled.
Kat glared at him, and crossed her arms.
"My my, touchy touchy. Very well. That father of yours won't be found in any records under any name or time. I however know of him very well. I was a mere boy when he was around and in good standing, but that was so very long ago. Long before you or that human..." he spat out the words "mother of yours was in the picture."
"You will watch your tongue when you speak of my mother, or I will cut it out for you, you wretched creature." Katharine glared at him, pulling a dagger she had taken from her husband's weapons chest.
"Peace, princess. Shall I continue, or do you wish to cut it out now? Granted if you do, then you will never know." He smiled slowly and continued at her nod. "Wise choice. At any rate, your father was very well thought of in those days. A favorite of the King, a fearless warrior, and of elvish royalty. Oh yes, he was a sight to behold. But, that was before the latest line of Elvish kings came to rule. I believe the current is called White Eye, or some such, the current regent is someone you also know. I digress. Where was I? Ah yes, Ellesar was banished when the latest line took over for siding with British in their little war for Sosaria. Yet he was still a favorite of the King, so he served him faithfully, up until the King disappeared, and we both know what happened to that King don't we, princess?" he snickered at her and coughed when she just glared waiting for him to continue. "Anyway, when British disappeared, some of his commanding officers were jealous of all the attention Ellesar had recieved, and sent him to Yew.... and that's where your part of the story began. Only by the time he had adopted a human name of Fallon. Leaving his elven past behind him, until he slipped up and told your mother. That's when his enemies found him...."

Katharine sat quiet for a minute, letting the knowledge soak in. "So they killed him? Because of me?"
He started to laugh and when he managed to catch his breath he spoke again. "Who says he is dead? Now go, I shall tell you no more. You think on that, little princess, and when you want to know more you have but to ask." He stood up and offered his hand, leading her back to the portal that was slowly closing. "You have but to call my name, and I shall answer. Now go, but make no mistake, you step through uninvited and you will not leave again."
