![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Headless Wisdom. In some other posts I mentioned a story about headless that I wrote, so here it is. It was written several years ago, so it isn't very good, and it has been formatted for UOWedding. Enjoy. Headless Wisdom. By Pikeman Listen well, friends, for the tale that I wish to tell involves those dangerous elements or wisdom, ignorance, greed, and so forth. It all begins in a forest not far from a not-so-known town. Two adventures walked the road in search of a fight, with swords in hands and a wild look in their eyes. These fellows were arrogant fools who wished for nothing more than to become famous and skilled warriors. I almost pity these fools, for their short range of comprehension would forever bar them from true greatness. They were traveling in the forest, as they normally did, when their eyes, hungry for blood, fell upon a headless. However, this headless did not seem like a normal headless. It stood upright and walked in a dignified manner. In fact, one might mistake this particular headless for a human if it had a head. The two adventurers walked to it menacingly, ready to strike. The headless noticed this and spoke to them as they got closer. It said, "Wait! Don't kill me!" The adventurers, dumbfounded at its speaking abilities, replied, "And why not?" The headless answered, "Perhaps I could give you something in return for my life." "What could you possibly have to give us?" said the adventurers. The headless gestured and said, "Advice, my friend." The adventurers smirked. "Very well beast. Tell us how to become famous!" "To become famous, one must do an impossible feat that no one has ever dared perform. Scrub a thousand floors, and build a thousand homes. Then people everywhere shall speak your names." The two adventurers left, glancing at each other skeptically. Years later, the two adventurers returned to the very same spot in the forest, again with sword in hand. They spotted the same headless and approached it. "Headless, your advice worked. But now we demand something else. Tell us how to become skilled warriors or else we will kill you." The headless sighed, somehow, and spoke. "Great warriors are known to rid the vermin which plague society. Search for the tiny beasts that reside within churches and peoples' homes. As you kill them off with your sword, you will learn to focus your strength as well as increase your accuracy." So the adventures left with their new task. Years later, the two adventurers returned to the very same spot in the forest. They spotted the same headless and spoke to it. "Headless, your advice has worked yet again, but we require more advice unless you wish to meet a terrible fate. Tell us how to become wise, like you." The headless walked slowly towards them and whispered, "This is a closely guarded secret of the headless. You must swear on your life that you shall not tell another soul." The adventures nodded reluctantly, slightly nervous. "Wisdom comes from the heart, not from the mind. The mind absorbs information, and therefore absorbs any wisdom your heart has to offer. Therefore, remove your head from your torso, and you shall begin to understand the mysteries of the universe." The adventurers, trusting the headless's flawed logic, held their swords to their necks, and with their great strength, they beheaded themselves. So it was, the public mourned the loss of who they knew as great public servants, and the headless went quietly about his business. ![]() Still we loom in the mists as the ages roll away, And we say of our folk, "they are here!" That they built us and they died and you'll not be knowing why, Save we stand on the bare plains of Wiltshire. |
