sideswiped by a trojan ....

ARRRGHHHHH!!!!! what a waste of energy, time and my sacred braincell!!!

this darn thing was called ... WinAntiVirus 2006 Pro ... nasty pop up to end all ...

i hide behind blockers, virus protectors, and do regular scans but nnnnoooooooooo this one got through .... seems it is a BHO or some other crazy abbreviation .... i ran 3 darn tootin award winning spyware programs and none caught it ... then YAY!!! Adam to the rescue ... he sent me to another anti spyware program location .. and sure enough it found the ugly beast!! and so far so good .. im here for many minutes and no pop up on my pretty screen

but also ... during this adventure (one i dont want to repeat) i met some really nifty folks over at geekstogo.com .... they were very helpful as well in some fine tuning of my laptop (the system that got hit)

THANK YOU ADAM AND GEEKSTOGO ... i was about ready to reformat the whole thing!!

Pleasure
The virus/malware program is quite nasty, it's classed as "Aggressive advertising", which is putting it mildly, also downloads trojans to your machine
They own a domain allmost identical to Norton's, so if people type it in wrong, it goes to their site
Not only that, but they use the same color scheme and imagery as the REAL norton site (Symantec.com)

oh heres what im dealing with. i have a dell inspiron 6000 recently purchased. i mean like last year at most. was working fine but now when it is powered up and i try to open any kind of window, it stays open for like 1 second then automaticly closes it. i dont know what it is. i have macafee security suite 2006 on my laptop. not what is causeing this. please help. oh and formating and reinstalling windows cant be done cause my cd rom stopped working. if anyone has one laying around id appretiate the donation or i can buy it off you.

Yeah it's rare occassion when I do get a virus but when I do it's normally one of those go through HOURS of fighting it and hoping you get it and it doesn't come back the next time you open a webpage or what not or just formating.

I am personally a fan of just formatting, I keep a backup of all important files on a 2nd harddrive and it basically takes me 3 hours max to reformat and get my system 100% back to par and where I like it

.

The virus I hate most are the friggen sleepers. Little sons ah batchs are tough to catch and to get rid of.

Best way to own a PC in my opinion...still think Macs are more secure then PC's but I am so use to my PC lol.
