Grrr you Mr. Truck on the highway

Grrrrrrr! I just replaced my windshield in my car... 3 months ago from a rogue rock that flew out of a big truck. I now make sure I'm a gabillion miles away from these trucks... but yesterday don't you know I was behind one and sure enough.....something flew out of it and smacked my windshield hard. I checked it and didn't see anything and then today on my way home the light hit my eye funny and I see a 12" crack!

Yeah I try and stay away from big trucks, especially the ones with the open backs.

$200 deductible to replace windshield with my insurance. I thought that was a bit much, till I saw the bill for the windshield.

Sorry that happened Snuggs...but if you could have gotten a number or something off the truck the trucking company would be liable for your repairs I believe

Yeah I got a big 'ole crack in mine now from the crazy arse winter we had.

Started out as a weee tiny, lil 10th of a centimeter crack and then exploded across the windshield once the weather started changing back and forth. Actually watched it line across my windshield as I was driving around a bend on the highway and guess the car shifted just enough to make it splinter grrrrr.

$250 deductible w/ insurance, but the windshield only costs $200 to get replaced...

*scratches head*

Waiting for summer to get it fixed.

I hate trucks...

We have $500 deductible to keep our monthly rates down... I think I paid like $165 for my window before. I hate giving my money away!

<--- Was a truck driver, still is a part time truck driver... Hate to say it, but the company will not be liable for the damage to your windshield. Basically the rules of the road state that if you are driving on the road, you are liable for thrown rocks. If you could prove that the driver either tossed it out his window, or did not have the required mudflaps on, then you may stand an ever slim chance of shifting liability, but highly doubtful.

Sorry to say, its just one of those things... I have picked up quite a few rocks in my windshield.... Suprisingly its not the big boys tossing them, but the little wannabe racers with the wide tires sticking out of the fenderwells that throw most of them. The big fellas get fined if DoT catches them without mudflaps.

On a side note, I got a call from a windshield company one time that offered to fill any chips or replace a windshield... AND cover the deductable. My insurance company gave me the go ahead, so I got a free (well, it cost me 25$ for labor) windshield in my truck, without filing the insurance paperwork since the windshield company did it for me, and without my rates going up. Guess most insurance companies would rather fork out for a new windshield to improve vision rather than shell out for a new ride AND any possible medical coverage.

*sigh* I know the feeling except mine is squirrel related... replace a windshield they drop another fecking acorn on it! I kind of wish they sold "plastic" windshields glass is great but sometimes maybe the plastic be better... not sure if it is allowed or not.. the disadvantages or anything to it...
We want to just leave it the way it is but the freackin' law requires no cracked windshields it is un-winning situation(s)
