I've never figured out how to be gracefully humble without appearing weak.

Nor have I figured out how to be gracefully passionate without appearing arrogant.

In the end, I always seem to be arrogant and weak instead of humbly passionate.

Re: WHO probes possible human-to-human bird flu spread

They are estimating that anywhere from 60% to 80% of the population will catch it if it becomes transferable from human to human, depending on various reports I have seen. Aside from all the deaths that the actual flu will cause, think about the ramifications of that.

Suddenly, about 70% of the population is unable to go to work. Schools and stores will shut down. What stores stay open will only have a very limited stock, because their incoming items will cut back severely. Water, waste water, and electrical problems won't be taken care of, no one will be able to do so. Hospitals will be overrun... what happens if you suddenly have a burst appendix? Who will come if you call 911 when someone breaks into your home?

Sounds like a worst case scenario, true. Unfortunately, it is possible.

I hate to be the cold uncaring jackass in all of this.. but think about what is going to happen to the world if the population continues to grow at is current rate.

I'm not saying deaths in the billions are the answer.. but neither is the way we are currently living.. if we don't do something about it, nature will. although it may seem absolutely terrible for billions to die, think of how many people will suffer when our population reaches 15 or 20 billion.

I'm not hoping for massive plagues to wipe out the majority of humanity.. I'm hoping humanity wakes up before its too late.. the sad truth of it all is, even if billions do die, even if the civilizations of the world suffer set backs and the inconveniences of not having power, or the luxury of 911, the race and the world will survive. we will rebuild, hopefully with a greater understanding of our mistakes.

Re: WHO probes possible human-to-human bird flu spread

Well, if you look back thru history, we are about due for some god-awful plague or another. Plus, they are saying only about 200 million may die. I know saying 'only' is a bit harsh, but when you look at the total of the worlds population, 200 million isn't much.

It's just that while the whole thing is going on, we have the potential to be seriously handicapped as far as day to day life is concerned. Then there are those who will die due to secondary causes, not from the flu itself. For instance if a person is at home and needing care, and the caregiver gets sick and no one comes in replacement, what happens? Or the burst appendix example.

If you live in the UK it will cost as much as the 'postcode lottery' tickets cost
