Not actually seeing noise, but the reaction of all the particles in the air surrounding the object passing the speed of sound.

Like when a ray of sunshine comes through a window and all the dust particles reflect the light...not actually seeing a ray of sunshine, but the dust.

Those are awesome to see, we were hosting an Air Show once, and there was a F-18 just slowly cruising across in front of us like 100 ft above the runway, then all of a suddon he shoots up, and BOOOM he hit the sound barrier. It was sooo funny to see over 100k people drop to the ground. hehe..

I remember my dad taking us to an air show at Hanscom AFB and the Thunderbirds were there. F-14 Tomcats, yes?

At one point, they have a jet in this steep, steep climb a good ways off and everyone is glued to it to see just how the thing can go.

No one noticed the jet flying low that came rocketing past the entire crowd with a thunder like you read about! Not sure if it was actually a sonic boom (I was only 6 or 7 years old), but I remember cecking my shorts after that!
