McDonald's global sales top $20bn

Go McD's!!

Quote:
Fast food giant McDonald's has seen its global sales top $20bn (£11bn) for the first time in the company's history.
Full-year revenue rose 7% in 2005, boosted by strong sales in the US and a turnaround in its fortunes in Europe.

McDonald's has been revitalising its global business, adding salads and chicken strips to menus traditionally known for burgers and fries.

McDonald's said its net income for the year rose to $2.6bn, from $2.2bn in the previous year.

More McDonald's

During the final three months of the year, sales in Europe rose by 2.8% - led by an improved performance at its businesses in France, Russia and Germany.

"We will continue to build on our momentum in this important area of the world...through improved communication of our product quality, brand relevance and commitment to balanced, active lifestyles," McDonald's chief executive Jim Skinner said.

The company said it planned to open 800 restaurants in the current financial year as part of a $1.8bn round of investment.

McDonald's announced in October that it would start printing nutritional facts, including the fat, salt, calorie and carbohydrate content, on the packaging of products.

Critics have maintained that many of the foods on offer at McDonald's are unhealthy and fattening, at a time when obesity levels in many countries are soaring.

Last year, McDonald's said that it planned to give its iconic mascot clown Ronald McDonald a sporty new makeover, in a bid to encourage children to take up more active lifestyles.

I've never figured out how to be gracefully humble without appearing weak.

Nor have I figured out how to be gracefully passionate without appearing arrogant.

In the end, I always seem to be arrogant and weak instead of humbly passionate.

They are going to print nutrition facts on their products? Now that's a good idea...many that will scare some people into realizing exactly how much junk they are eating.

Don't get me wrong...I eat the occasional McD's like everyone else...but I have friends who will eat it 3 or 4 times a week....blech...and they wonder why they are unhealthy all the time.

Re: McDonald's global sales top $20bn

Did anyone see that movie about the dude eating McDs for a month. Now that is unhealthy! It really showed how unhealthy that crap is. I fall victim to it every now and then tho, when I'm in a hurry at lunch and the arches are the quickest ticket. I always feel like crap after eating there though. Anyone else get that feeling when eating there?

Bo - I also Saw "Super Size Me" and the way he described his bodily reactions to the food as the 'MC-Shakes', 'MC-Cramps' and the 'MC-Gurgles' is so true. There food tastes good, no question...but for me it doesn't feel so good past the mouth.

Re: McDonald's global sales top $20bn

Exactly! It smells pretty good, but everytime I go there, which isnt very often due to them closing the one right outside the base, and moving it down the highway, I feel like crap afterwards. I get that feeling whenever I eat fast food anywhere tho, maybe its the lack of nutrients in it. Did you ever see his show on FX? I dont think it was on very long, but he did the 30 day thing but in different environments. It was pretty funny. Glad to see he got his health back once he quit the Mcdiet. I wouldnt want to die from Suicide-by-bigmac.

Re: McDonald's global sales top $20bn

I used to like Burger King until I spent 4 years at a base overseas that only had BK. After roughly too many lunches there, I swore off BK for the rest of my life... Especially after they changed their fries about 8 years ago. ech!
