Judge Brinkema said she found he had accepted no responsibility for his actions, nor shown remorse.

After he was formally sentenced to life in prison, with no chance of release, according to the jury's verdict, Moussaoui was given the opportunity to speak.
Addressing the court, he said he had been branded a terrorist, but had "never attacked anyone".

"God curse America. God save Osama Bin Laden. You'll never get him," he said.

"I will be free and my liberation will be the proof that we are the soldiers of God and you are the army of Satan."
But the judge told Moussaoui: "When this proceeding is over, everyone else in this room will leave to see the sun... hear the birds... and they can associate with whomever they want.

"You will spend the rest of your life in a supermax prison. It's absolutely clear who won."

The judge told Moussaoui: "You came here to be a martyr in a great big bang of glory, but to paraphrase the poet TS Eliot, instead you will die with a whimper.

"You will never get a chance to speak again and that's an appropriate ending."

'Death in doses'

The French foreign ministry said it might ask the US to allow Moussaoui to serve his sentence in France, following an appeal from Moussaoui's mother, Aicha el-Wafi.

The right decision. To execute him would be to condone state sanctioned murder and only play into the hands of fanatics

'Supermax' awaits Moussaoui

"A possible demand for transferring Zacarias Moussaoui could be looked at," Reuters news agency quoted foreign ministry spokesman Jean-Baptiste Mattei as saying.

Ms el-Wafi demanded the French government put pressure on the US authorities, claiming her son had been jailed for life only because "France didn't dare to stand up to the Americans".

"Now he [Moussaoui] is going to die in little doses. He is going to live like a rat in a hole. What for? They are so cruel," Ms el-Wafi was quoted by the Associated Press news agency as saying.

French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy said he had instructed the French embassy in Washington to "remain very attentive to the situation of Zacarias Moussaoui", Reuters reported.

US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said officials would examine any transfer request, AFP news agency said.
Mr Gonzales, who had pressed for the death penalty, said he was satisfied that "justice was served".

'No remorse'

The prosecution had called for the death sentence, contending that "there is no place on this good Earth" for Moussaoui.

But defence lawyers successfully argued he should face life in prison, rather than martyrdom through execution.

During six weeks of testimony, prosecutors had argued that Moussaoui had withheld information that could have helped prevent the attacks on New York and Washington.

Under cross-examination, Moussaoui said he had "no regret, no remorse" and wished it could be 11 September 2001 every day.
Moussaoui was arrested on immigration charges at a flight simulator school in Minnesota in August 2001. Although he was in jail at the time of the attacks, prosecutors said he told lies to allow the plot to continue.

My only disagreement was that he is not in a public area. I want him to get his butt whooped on a daily basis. Now nobody will get that chance.. Oh well.

I'm not sure what shanked means but ...
i'll bet my last pan of cookies that it won't be long at all until he feels the pain of 3000+ innocent lives.

I laugh when they say solitary confinement.. its amazing how people "accidently" get near the general population and then poof.. they are gone without so much as a flinch... Jeffery Dahmer wasn't suppose to be near the general population either.. and we know what happened to him... *grins*... justice will be served one way or another, murderers have a way of "eating" their own.

Jeffery Dahmer should have just been exacuted for what he did but in the end the broomstick got him

I work in the segregation unit. These guys are locked up 23 hours a day and they still manage to sneek smokes, books by fishing(taking threads out of their sheets and taking a ink pen or something they can toss through any crack they can find in the door and toss it into another cell) and yes they even manage to fight each other from time to time while on rec(dont look at me I work 4-12 shift, no rec heh)

A shank is anything that can sharpened including a broom stick heh. My favs are the ones were they take the blades out of their razors and melt them into their combs....slice and dice

where there's a will there's a way... and these guys have nothing but time to sit and think of ways to do it... *shudders at the ideas they come up with*
