Hispanic Communities Upset about new U.S Bills
Ok So last friday in georgia (and im sure in other US citys )Hispanics took the "day off" in protest of bills the US is going to pass cutting benefits to illegal immagrants.Well first off not all of them took the day off.Secondly how can you be upset that the goverment is no longer going to allow this to continue, more than half of the illegal aliens who work are making cash money that means they arent properly reporting their income when they go apply for these benefits and are getting them when US citizens cant because they make too much money. My point is you are here illegally you arent paying taxes why should you be able to get benefits Like food stamps ,medicaid ,housing ,and in some cases welfare? When families of 4 cant get anything because the one person who is working reporting income *because you have too*in the family makes too much money?
I think the US citizens should be more upset that we can help everyone else out yet most people here in the US cant afford or dont have health insurance. |

Re: Hispanic Communities Upset about new U.S Bills
Well said and agreed.
Where I used to live there was a big problem with day laborers hanging out in a 2 block radius waiting for a potential business to come by and offer a day labor job. So many people complained about loitering and would call the cops. They'd come, people would walk around the block and then assemble at the same place. The county finally started arresting people and it became a huge political nightmare for our county seat(s). Well, the next county over used 175,000 county TAX DOLLARS to construct a building to provide a 'safer' and more 'climate appropriate' (aka indoors) location for the day laborers to wait. Mind you the concept of day labor is a cash only business and hardly ever reported as income. Good luck to that county for getting back in tax dollars from those folks who are using the facility. My annoyance with it mostly is that I come from an ethnic family myself. They did things the legal way when it came to citizenship, employment, and the majority of them even served in the military. So it's possible for anyone to do it the legal and correct way without expecting a hand out or free services. *Just my opinion* |

Re: Hispanic Communities Upset about new U.S Bills
Yes, there are those who come here to apply for welfare and benefits, and pretty much become sponges sucking the government money. There are citizens here who do that too tho. Did you know that if you are a drug addict you can get disabiliy and welfare? When a WW2 vet is trying to live on $400 a month?
Here in Texas we have a lot of immgrants. They actually do immgrant roundups. Every so often immigration will bust down on employers and illegal aliens. The aliens get sent home and the employers get fined. There are a ton of them here who are here to work tho. My grandparents had a man who helped mow the lawn and such when they got too old to do it. He sent every spare penny home that he could, to provide for his family. He was here illegally but it was his goal that his kids come here, become citizens, and go to college. He did it too. As his kids were sent here, they helped him with his gardening business until they could afford college. I remember that my grandmother gave them each $100 on the day they became a legal citizen. That's what America was based on. How many here are old enough to remember when they tore down the wall between East and West Berlin? Is that what the US is headed toward? As it is, they are taking away so many personal freedoms, which we as the public are allowing them to do in the sake of the 'war on terrorism.' Now we are going to throw fences around our borders. What's next? I'm sorry, but some chain link and a few dogs is not going to make this country any safer. Don't get me wrong. I am all for helping citizens. I think it is completely wrong that in this country there are children going to bed hungry because they couldn't afford to eat. I, myself, at one time in my life, was homeless. You should always make sure the family in your own house is fed and taken care of before you send everything to your neighbors. Well the US doesn't do that, we are too busy policing the world and sending money to everywhere but here. I still don't think we should turn our backs upon those who really need our help tho. ![]() We are all broken and wounded in this world. Some choose to grow strong at the broken places. --Harold J. Re: Hispanic Communities Upset about new U.S Bills
My view on all of it is the goverment needs to take a minute from helping everyone else and help its own ppl then we can worry about the rest of the world. The US has homeless lets help them! Lets get New Orleans and all the other cities affect by the hurricanes Rebuilt and all the people who lost their homes new ones. The Us is always helping out others. Why cant we help out ourselfs?
It makes me angry to see this because I was in a car accident and I havent been able to work I also have borderline ovarian cancer so i have to be tested every six months I cant afford all the doctor bills and to take care of my family. When I spoke to the Medicaid people the only help they could offer is at one of Atlanta's worst hospitals. Its just sad to me that this country is like that it doesnt want to help out its own people. When it does something so that benefits arent being used by people who dont pay taxes People get mad! |

Re: Hispanic Communities Upset about new U.S Bills
I love telling people that I am only 2nd generation American. My grandparents immigrated to the States.....but they did it legally.
And both generations have sent multiple folks into the armed services. We may be new around here but we are trying to do our part! America has been referred to the melting pot. We got all kinds here...always have. But there are legal ways to go about it. That's not too much to ask. Well over half my friends are immigrants to America but all of them came here legally. I can't remember all the countries but offhand I do know friends here from Mexico, Argentina, Fiji, Singapore, South Africa, England, France, Germany, Kosovo, Russia, Israel, hell we even got some from New York City! My favorite couple is the Jewish man and his wife from Germany. Our church looks like the United Nations (but we get along better) Our current border is a joke. I don't care what they do with it but they need to either put up a "Berlin wall" and enforce immigration laws or lay out a red carpet. I'd rather see no borders anywhere but that won't happen anytime soon. ![]() Tuka ![]() ![]() Kinsmen are born. Friendship is a gift of the gods.

Re: Hispanic Communities Upset about new U.S Bills
I just think its funny when people get all worked up about immigration when the vast majority of people here are a product of immigration. Without immigration there would be no United States. I just think its all quite silly.
