Exxon asked to bare all

The case of ExxonMobil funding climate sceptics is back. We've reported on this before (see Report singles out ExxonMobil over climate scepticism, Environmental smoke and mirrors, and Climate change special: State of denial).

This week, a Greenpeace report showed that the oil giant gave over $2 million in 2006 to climate sceptic groups, in spite of pledges.

Following on the report's release, the Chairman of the US Investigations and Oversight Subcommittee - part of the House Committee on Science and Technology - has called for a full accounting of ExxonMobil's financial support of global climate sceptics.

In a letter to Exxon's CEO, Brad Miller asked him to supply the subcommittee with a number of documents, including Exxon's 2006 tax form and a complete list of the grants it paid out in 2006.

You always have to look at the source before you can believe anything like this. Yes, I think Exxon would be a pretty good source. If they have a big ol' check receipt laying around, made out to skeptic groups, that would be something to explain. Exxon may have to explain it's secrets to a few ppl, but that doesn't make it all public knowledge.
