Re: Bush approval rating hits new low

It doesn't matter who is in the Prez seat or who his cabinet is...or what reasons they are doing anything...there is always going to be a group that is against them. Eventually, the group with the best Public Affairs wins the support of the people. People are highly unpredictable and very few are even remotely competent. When huge disasters occur, our modern minds demand some one be held accountable, since it is obvious that their oversight led to the catastrophe. However, you take any son of gun off the street that has the credentials and they will have fared as well or worse than the one currently being scape goated. That is the way we are, as humans.

When the people who are sworn to uphold the law begin to think themselves ABOVE the law, then we no longer have a democracy. In the meantime, our personal freedoms are being eroded away day by day in the name of 'homeland security.'

It is for a court to determine whether the "administration broke the law with illegal wiretapping." There are a lot of opinions on the NSA surveillance, and reasonable people can disagree about them. Funny how the same people who fault the administration for "not connecting the dots" before 9/11/01 are now decrying efforts to do the same; just exactly what level of spying will make you comfortable? Do you really think that the NSA cares about your calls to friends about whether Taylor Hicks or Elliot Yamin win American Idol?

I personally haven't seen my freedoms erode lately. Which ones of yours are you talking about?

Re: Bush approval rating hits new low

News today:
Quote:
WASHINGTON(AP) President Bush sent Congress a $1.9 billion request Thursday to increase border security as supporters of sweeping immigration legislation reasserted control in Senate debate.

The White House said the money would pay for the "first 1,000 of 6,000 new Border Patrol agents that will be deployed in the next two years," as well as the temporary deployment of up to 6,000 National Guard troops to states along the Mexican border. The request includes funds for new fencing and other barriers as well as two new unmanned surveillance aircraft and five helicopters to curb illegal immigration.

The White House sent the request to Congress as the president traveled to Yuma, Ariz. to dramatize his commitment to border control and the Senate labored over the most sweeping overhaul of immigration law in two decades.

After voting narrowly and largely along party lines Wednesday night to bar guest workers from petitioning on their own for legal status, the Senate reconsidered. On a bipartisan vote of 56-43, the prohibition was diluted to say guest workers may generally seek legal status on their own if the government determines no American workers are available to fill the job.

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said the proposal that cleared on Wednesday night was designed to protect American workers, and the replacement would "put American workers in the back seat and foreign workers...in the front seat."

Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said, "I think there is a higher value in not having the immigrant subject to the control of the employer where there may be coercion and pressure..."

I have to agree with Flutter..

personally if your not doing anything illegal.. then you shouldn't care who hears your phone conversations...it not like they are going to tell your spouse if your having an affair..... We all have opinions on the war and the reasons we are there... and what not... personally I support the troops regardless of where our president puts them... they are still our troops

Re: Bush approval rating hits new low

Although my vote does not count, I never liked bush, I know what the father did. But you know, I went with bush for the first election because I said well maybe he can do something different. But for the second term elections, I was for keey all the way. I didnt like either of them, but we know what bush could do, and from what ive seen I thought it was time for a new approach. I thought kerry should have been elected.

Thats true. And yes, I agree with supporting the troops. I have a ton of family in the military. I may not always agree with the war, but I will always support our troops.

It isn't the fact that the wiretapping was done. It is the fact that it was done illegally, with full knowledge that the law was being broken. These are the people who are supposed to be upholding the laws of our country. Are they suddenly above the law?

Lets not forget too that the Patriot Act is still in affect as well.

Re: Bush approval rating hits new low

to support our troops and to support bush are two entirely different things............... one has little, if anything to do with the other. i will support our troops until hell freezes over........... they do what they must in most cases....... now, their choice as to whether to follow orders is another whole topic........ but the administration, current or not? that depends on what they do......... or propose to do.

what i say during a private conversation on the phone, or anywhere else, is my own business, and no one else's..... it certainly limits the exploration of alternate ideas which may be offensive to the current administration....... doesn't mean i may take any of the alternate ideas to heart, but i don't want them exploited for political reasons (or any reasons) in either case......

what freedoms are being lost.......... how about Freedom of Speech!!
Rights to privacy...........

the right to own guns was not given for our defense against our neighbors, it was in order to protect ourselves from a government gone awry...... somehow that seems very important..............

it's too early to discuss this......... *gets off her soapbox for now*
