Ask for help and risk losing your baby?

I have been following closely the story of a youmg mother to be Fran Lyons, who at age 15 spent 3 yrs in and out of psychiatric care for mental health problems.

Now aged 22,the young woman is trying to put the past behind her and move forward.

Her home local authority though, have produced a 'birth plan' which if Fran doesnt sign, has brought threats ther police will be involved.

You can read the full story here

and if you feel strongly enough about this matter to show your support there is a petition here

That story is sad I really hope the government doesn't take her baby away from her. That would be pretty harsh especially for something the girl did when she was a teenager after a traumatic incident.
Why don't they try other alternatives such as monitoring the house hold or letting the girl take parenting classes.

Re: Ask for help and risk losing your baby?

Thing is anyone who works /has worked with teens KNOWS those years are a 'phase' of learning ,and who of us didnt do/behave in a way we look back on and realise was questionable.?

I agree with the monitoring .No need to trautamise or seen to be punishing the girl further.

Heck they dont so as much with KNOWN at risk kids.

One only has to look at the reputation Social Services has earned itself the past few years in not protecting children it knew wrer at risk and who subsequently died in tragic circumstances.

I think good solid support and 24 hr contact is the way forward.

Lets hope a better outcome is reached soon
