Death of a Cu Sidhe (Paragon)
Thanks to Madrid of Sonoma, I received a +15 discord ring. Armed with this and an unexpected gain off a passing dryad, I found my discord power boosted to 119.1.
It was time! I scoured the Twisted Weald for a blaze-colored foe. To my chagrin, no flourescent puppies were wondering the area. "What?" I thought. "Typical. After years of seeing the spawn stalled by paragon Cus, the RNG decides to hose me again!" Disheartened, I headed back toward the entrance. I stopped to discord an kill a Dryad (Paragon). Though it was a heady experience, it wasn't nearly the kill I'd been hoping for. Suddenly, two Fallen Lords appeared and began working the Cu Sidhe spawn. In short order, Sky Blue and Copper sidhes dropped. Then - a paragon appeared! I immediately began my attempts to discord this powerful beast. I was not dissuaded by the repeated fails, not even after the tenth. The twentieth. Thirtieth...fortieth...fiftieth...sixtieth...seven tieth... That's right. Eighty-three failures before success! (119.1/104.7 music) I lost no time dismounting and crying, "All Kill!" To my extreme delight, my four-time grandmaster "Blu Sidhe" was holding his own. I had time to relax and give my opponent the hairy eyeball. Eep. Over 6000 hit points, with cold and energy resist off the charts! No matter! I was easily keeping up with the damage inflicted by this beast. The red bar was slowly shrinking. 5500. 5000. 4000. 3800. I'd be fine as long as my...bandages...held...out... Crap. Obviously, 100 bandies were not going to be enough to defeat this foe. I remounted my faithful beast and headed down to swoop, where a brightly-clad tamer was slaying the evil Swoop. "Dost thou have spare bandaids?" I cried. "Indeed!" And the (lamentably nameless) player tossed 100 bright blue strips of cloth in my directions. Grabbing the gift, I sped back to the twisting sand road. But, to my dismay, I had wandered too far and the beast was no longer disrupted. I frantically strummed my lute, but my opponent was full heath in short order. Despondant, I left the region. By the time I found myself in Luna, however, I had plucked up my courage again. I dashed to the moongate, blew by the Shrine of Sacrifice with scarsely an 'om' and returned to the fray. This time, a second Paragon Cu was cavorting with the tricksy faeries. I decided to try my hand against this beast, since a close inspection revealed he had nearly 600 fewer hitpoints! This time, I sang along with my instrument. No, really - I did. And the additional off-key sounds must have done the trick, because I discorded the eye-blinding animal in only 25 attempts! With a whopping 525 bandages, "A Blu Sidhe" went to work. I made sure to mutter In Vas Mani from time to time, anticipating a long, weary battle. I must have found the runt of the litter, though, because it wasn't long before I noticed the creature's health falling precipitously low. In a flash, I swapped my taming jewelry set for a shiny 100 luck bracelet and a fire-sale Ring of the Elements I picked up weeks ago from a vendor who quite possibly thought he was selling a cursed copy instead of the real thing. I briefly lamented the fact that I hadn't hit my Luck statue, but 1441 should be sufficient... One final growl, then a whine. The beast fell, fur matted in a bloody, fiery tangle. Victory! (I have some screenies, but they're at home. I'll try to upload them after work.) Only took about 15-20 mins and 143 bandaids. Last edited by Magister_Returns; 14th February 2008 at 10:28 PM. |

Re: Death of a Cu Sidhe (Paragon)
Incidentally, the loot was less than uber. I kept a studded gorget with 18 LRC, nightsight, MR1 and normal resists out of sentiment and a desire to have some sort of trophy. I also have 10 pieces of leather that I hope someday to dye blaze (accidentally used butcher's cleaver instead of a knife).
I wonder what the marty drop chance is for paragon cus...? |

Re: Death of a Cu Sidhe (Paragon)
(sorry about two posts, can't edit posts through work filter)
Also - discorded, the fire resist of this particular paragon was at 12%. Anyone know a high-level tame that does primarily fire damage? I am afraid a beetle/mare combo (for flame spells) is too fragile to take on another such animal. If only the new, uber dragons did fire instead of physical... |

Re: Death of a Cu Sidhe (Paragon)
I'd be all over it with my beetle/bake combo. Tank the beetle and let the bake do it's thing. I'm actually liking this combo more than mare/beetle. FWIW.

Re: Death of a Cu Sidhe (Paragon)
Someone remind me: do beetles have high energy/cold resist? The only good thing about using a Cu against a Paragon Cu is the ultra-high energy/cold resists kept the damage my pet received down around 30 points per hit.
I've never tried bakes - what do they do? |

Re: Death of a Cu Sidhe (Paragon)
Bakes are mares on steroids lol. Higher hp's, strong magery, just an all around nice complement to a beetle. You have to walk when using them, but oh well. I just started playing with them a week or two ago, but I really do like them. I've got one fairly well trained, and the other still has work to do. I run a beetle/bake combo or the two bakes together. I watched my better bake take drags down faster than my cu's can, but obviously I had to heal them, something you don't worry about with the cu's.
With that said, I doubt I'll be using the bakes (or the cu's) against the new drags. I saw those bad boys kill dozens of pets yesterday, from cu's to ww's, to mare/bug combos. A lot of pets got trashed hehe. Last edited by jfk; 15th February 2008 at 07:16 AM. |

Re: Death of a Cu Sidhe (Paragon)
Well done! I tried to take down a Paragon Cu Sidde with my well trained Dog and I gave up after 15 minutes or so. It was a timely task indeed and one which requires some paitence. So I tip my hat to you...
The artifact Drop on Paragon Cus is extremely high in my opinion... as it should be. When I break up the spawn (4 Paragons) with my Bard I get an artifact about 25% of the time. I've gotten more artifacts breaking up the spawn than from any of my other activities as a predominantly solo player. |
