The capture of Lord British ....

Our News basket just received this very important inscribed scroll from the Peoples Army of Sonoma [PAS] ....

Quote:
It is my pleasure to announce that Lord British, traitor to the people of Sonoma, has been captured by PAS!

Over the past few months, PAS has been on the trail of this criminal. With the help of Nagisa, a Tukr'ay Lord, and skilled tracker, our troops were able to follow British through many towns and many remote hideaways that he has used to remain hidden for these past years.

Nagisa was able to point PAS towards the Sacrifice Shrine area, fel, as a possible hiding spot. Dirt smudges from a hat owned by Lord British gave her the clue, and the chase was on.

British was spotted at a remote hunting cabin farther south, and PAS split up and monitored the various fel gates, escape routes that British has used before to sneak away.

British had been hiding under the name Cantabrigian, and after researching the PAS libraries, Nagisa discovered that this was the family name of Lord British when he first came to Sonoma eons ago.

Sure enough, PAS was able to spot him and after a series of deft maneuvers, British was finally apprehended and brought to Nujelm for identification.

Nagisa and myself positively identified him, and he even was wearing several articles of clothing made by a tailor that was rumored to be the personal tailor for Lord British.

PAS guards whisked him off to the Jail at Nujelm, and since his apprehension Sunday night he has been moved to a remote location for further questioning.

Instead of ordering his death, I have decried that British will stand trial for his crimes against the people of Sonoma. I intend to find an impartial judge from Sonoma that will preside over the trial. In the coming days, I will announce the name of the judge, and at that point I will step back and let the judge proceed from there, through the conclusion of LBs trial.

My thanks to the many PAS that have worked hard this past year, searching for British, and my personal thanks go out to the Tukr'ay, especially High Lord Nagisa. Without her help this criminal would still be on the loose.

Citizens of Sonoma can rest comfortably now, knowing this villain is in custody. Some will criticize me for not killing this traitor immediately, but I stand by my decision. Even the lowest of scum deserves a fair trial, and a fair trial he will receive.

KD
PAS ROCKS SONOMA!

Thats what I thought... But then again perhaps it is different on other shards? The rumor I heard is that he was 86'd by an actual player way back in the old days.

Speaking of interaction with NPCs... Can they be killed? Assuming you somehow avoid getting guard whacked?

Guild role-play, I'm guessing. I don't believe that EA can even use the "Lord British" name in game anymore, because Richard Garriott retains all rights to it, as Starr Long does with "Lord Blackthorn."

I read an interview with Starr Long (Lord Blackthorn), I believe, last year, in which he relates the tale of how Garriott's character Lord British got murdered in game. Apparently Garriott forgot to turn on the "God Mode" that made him invulnerable in game and a player cast several Flamestrikes (or fireballs, my memory of the story is vague) and actually killed him. Long, who HAD remembered to turn on his "God Mode," promptly began summoning daemons and screaming that the evildoers would be punished (shades of Bush!)

Take it for what it's worth. You can probably find the interview by doing a search on Garriott or Long.

Lord British was in an EM event on Catskills about a year ago.
He's alive and well (as far as we know) on that shard.
He's absent right now while he is off fighting unimaginable evil.

As for the famous incident where Lord British is assassinated in Ultima Online ...

Assassination of Lord British

One of the most famous characteristics of Lord British is that he is supposed to be indestructible. In every Ultima game that he has appeared in, he is designed to be unkillable by the player character. However, there are ways for a player "thinking outside the box" to assassinate him.
  • During an in-game appearance on Ultima Online's beta test on August 8, 1997, a player character known as Rainz cast a spell called "fire field" on Lord British that surprisingly killed him. Shortly afterwards, Rainz's account was banned from the beta test for previously exploiting bugs rather than reporting them (infamously used by his character Aquaman to kill many player characters). According to Origin, he was not banned for the assassination but rather for previous complaints against his account that were brought to light as a result of this attention.

Re: The capture of Lord British ....

Where can one find the history/Storyline behind LB's current role on Sonoma? I'd like to follow these events and see how it plays into everything. We did a similar thing on Siege and half the shard participated in one manner or another. In the end, myself and a blind Knight of the Silver Serpent found Lord British held captive in the Void and killed him there. Seems the Daemons there had been controlling his Tyrannical actions over the year.

Keep us posted, KD.. perhaps even post what happens next in the Dry Stein forum?

Edit: If any Sonoma-unique history behind Lord British's dissappearance/role is in player written or NPC books rather than posted somewhere.. could somebody point me in that direction instead?

Re: The capture of Lord British ....

sorry guys, had login probs so couldnt reply to this till now ... out of character now ....

to answer a few questions ....

Yes this is a shard wide event open to anyone wanting to participate.

Yes, even reds (I expect that we will attempt to move the prisoner from the remote location to the court, wherever the judge determines that to be, several times, all in fel).

No, the verdict is not predetermined, in fact, the only predetermined things are that Maddwg is the judge (and he's promised to be fair and to rp the part as he sees Maddwg would act), and we do have a Sonoma player to play the Lord British character (and hes promised to play it straight, as he thinks LB would play it).

I expect prominent citizens would be called to testify for and against LB, and again the judge will control everything .. he will determine if a jury trial makes sense, or just the one judge, or more judges, whatever ... he will determine process, whats allowed, not allowed during the trial, he sets everything, then everyone plays their parts and we see how it all ends up.

I promise some surprise witnesses, and some wild ones to boot ... it should be fun for reporters, players, attorneys, the judge, and even LB.

Hope that helps set the stage for this. PAS' s role will be to provide counsel to prosecute LB (with Maddwgs blessing), and then to provide witnesses, and to provide security during the trial.

I hope to heck everyone tries to get involved, it should be a blast.

Wow. So much stuff going on and I tend to miss it all. Oh well. Anyway, how did Lord British become a criminal? I thought he was the number 1 good guy.

Re: The capture of Lord British ....

in the KD story that is the background of how PAS (Peoples Army of Sonoma) came to be in Sonoma, LB was a drunken, lazy, selfish traitor to the people of Sonoma.

http://peoplesarmyofsonoma.net/modul...file=kingdavid

This is of course from the PAS point of view .... and there will be some nice fun twists to the case ... but I cant give anything away ... we just will have some things we will bring to light from the PAS perspective, and Im certain that LB will bring his own witnesses to testify.

Then we see what happens, all in fun of course, and designed to let ANY Sonoma player participate, if they want to.

VERY open ended.
