Ricardo Needs Legal Representation!!!!!!!

The Law Offices of BO&E - located near Britania on the Lake Superior Shard, publicly announce their concern for the rights currently afforded, or rather, not being afforded to Ricardo - citizen of Britania. While Ricardo's alleged crimes have been decried from Serpent's Hold to Umbra, little if anything has been done to see that he is ensured a fair trial. In fact, it appears as the media, BNN has labeled him a 'thief', a 'scoundrel', and a host of other conclusory titles that have done little but inflame the masses and ensuring that Ricardo be damned before his trial. No mention of representation has even been considered for Ricardo.

As such, the BoE Legal team, headed up by their chief counsel, Gabriel, hereby volunteer their resources and time to provide free legal services to the real victim of this affair, Ricardo. We vow to provide outstanding legal representation at no charge to the accused and will pursue all avenues to procure justice for Ricardo. We fight for the rights of our clients and will even provide services in whatever jurisdictions Ricardo might find himself accused of a crime.

Should defense services be deemed appropriate for Ricardo (as they undoubtedly must), the BoE legal team can be reached via PM or email. It should be noted that Ricardo would be receiving the services of an individual committed to the legal defense of individuals who can not otherwise afford legal representation and has real world experience in such matters. I can be reached via PM on this account. I look forward to being contacted by the Prosecutor immediately with regard to a list of formal charges and a copy of the Complaint against my client. I also request an opportunity to meet with my client to better prepare his defense.

Hmm - with vengful mobs and long player memories - if he doesn't clear his name he might just have to run off and buy a name & Gender change (Ricardarina?) then relocate on another shard.

Or maybe go underground RPing an Orc someplace - hard to tell who's under those helms.

Or get good at Ninja Wolf form - "Ricardo the wolf".. does have a ring to it.

Or a polymorph --.... Ricardo the Squirrel... hmm no - "Foamy the Squirrel" has got that market cornered already.

It will be quite tough to defend him, since there are really no associated laws or precedents in Britannian jurisprudence. As some may recall (ha!), Lord British, the ruler/judge at the time, condemned the FoA without any real defense on their part. Also the various "ruling councils" do not seem to have any working rules or laws to examine, they seem to just announce their whims and disappear into the woodwork.

One would think that if we had a viable legal system in the shards that we would be able to bring grievances against all number of people and annoy each other constantly with petty lawsuits over suits of chainmail that have "Super Good +10" engraved on them. Or wrongful death suits against Murderer guilds, with damages in the tens of millions of gold pieces.

Instead people yell here on OyHall and pick at each other in the Shard forums, as Lord British and the Timelords INTENDED.

Though yes, I agree he should have a defense attorney at least, assuming this goes to trial. However, that would require a defense attorney on every shard he's been captured. And how will things go if some shards are guilty and others are not?
