can anyone tell me what skills i need to mess with different types of wood such as ash/yew/and frost wood

You need Lumberjacking to harvest woods

what skill level to cut logs into bords?? when i try it is says u have no idea how to work this wood

Ok if you have plain logs..make sure that your tool is set for regular wood too. If it is for any of the higher woods you have to have carpentry skill to change logs into boards.
