A Little More Money for the Coffers - by Jhaniss Glannath!

Wandering Trinsic streets at night, I walked past the Keg and anchor tavern,
looking for some trouble to cause, I noticed many people gathered at the keg and anchor,
so I went inside and took a seat, watching, observing the people there,
looking for an angle, an opportunity to earn some money,
as everyone left I followed them outside and spotted a man
with a young baby girl, this was my opportunity.

He looked at me puzzled when I asked him if he knew what taxes were,
so I thought I had better explain to him, so he knew
what he would be paying for.

Obviously he saw the sarcasm in my explanation, only a complete moron would not have,
so he was not all that pleased, however I didn't give him much of a choice
but to pay, otherwise I would have had his daughter as a future
slave to take back to Naeloth and throw in the mines.

Luckily for his daughter he made the right choice, and threw
whatever gold he did have to me, sure it wasn't much,
but every little helps to make us richer, to make us stronger.

On my way out of Trinsic to travel home I came across a group of people
at the West "gate" which is really a bridge not a gate at all,
anyway in this group I spotted the chef Stewan Seagull
who is in our books and under our protection, I decided it
was time for him to pay up a few more coins.

So I went away got disguised and then returned to town,
I watched the group thinking up an angle on how to separate him,
when I remembered that he had just recently bought a new
shipment of ribs, that was my angle that's what I needed food!

I asked him nicely if he would cook me some ribs, and told him
that I preferred them cooked in an oven rather than on a
camp fire so we both set off to the cooks in Trinsic, where
he started to prepare the food for me.

I decided the protection money he would pay, would be the amount
he would charge me for the food, simply so I could mock him a little too,
so I enquired on the cost of such.. extravagant food, and obviously
asked if I may taste the food before I hand over the payment again,
for mocking purposes.

So we waited for the meat to cook, and just as he had put it out to cool,
disaster struck, A GUARD! this was going to be a problem,
but luckily she was just checking in on her way home to rest,
she also saw nothing suspicious, and left me to it.
Had I of simply demanded money off him without asking
him to cook the food, then the chances are she would have
walked in whilst I was threatening him, and that
would not have been good.

Luckily though it wasn't, I tasted the food and it was rather good however
I did not let him know this I don't want him thinking he is good at
something just before I take his money off him.

As I demanded the gold he told me that the brigands had put
them under his protection, trying to get me to back off, so I revealed
to him that I was there to collect his protection money he seemed
shocked, so I simply gave him no choice.

What choice did he have but to hand over the gold?

More gold for the coffers and a peasant reminded what protection means, and costs.

Special thanks to Jhaniss Glannath
