Question Chesapeake Role-Play Community Forum?

[OOC]

I was going to bounce this idea off a few people via PM's first but then decided that kinda goes against the whole idea. So the topic for discussion is: Would it be beneficial to the chessy rp community to have a separate forum (kind of a neutral ground area), to discuss & share ideas, list events, and do it all ooc. I know other shards have done this, and it may have been done on Chessy before, or attempted, I dunno.

I'm also talking keeping this real simple. Maybe have a current events for any on going sagas, an ideas forum where peeps can post their ideas and find out if they are viable and worth doing and if anyone else is interested in participating.

I know it sucks going through the trouble to set something up and no one shows and then you wonder is it the event? the time? not enough advertising, What?

I also know there are things going on that I read on the various guild forums, and I think "cool, that looks interesting" but I don't know if its something I can just drop in on or if its more a "closed door" event.

With a meeting of the minds type place we can maybe save time in-game and make things a little more fun, without having to decipher whats going on from a few posts, and maybe coordinate events a little better so folks don't have to chose between 2 or more.

For a very simple example: Lets say the 13th is trying to get into blackthorn's castle looking for a relic or something, ATD gets wind of it and garrisons BT's castle.

On the forum the basics could be hashed out, such as making sure both sides are in-game at the same time on the same day, RoE, and a whole bunch of other stuff....but NO scripting of events, just the set-up and then let it flow. It would also be easy to post "Event open to All" so anyone who wants to can just show-up on the posted day/time and interact.

This isn't meant to be some great organizing of rp'ers where we all agree to play the exact same way (nothing wrong with that, and no disrespect intended to groups that have gone that route), it is intended more as a tool to increase interaction amongst like minded people.

Only downside I see is its another forum that has to be checked, maintained and it'll only work if people actually go out of their way to utilize it.

Alright, let me know what you think....but please be gentle

Re: Chesapeake Role-Play Community Forum?

Could it just be a subforum here? I just think if it's a public event it should be on the calendar. If it's a private event or guild event, then on that forum. However, with that being said, the public invited could be added to those events (or parts of them) to the postings of those guilds.

Re: Chesapeake Role-Play Community Forum?

Think of it more as a work shop where the various rp guilds & non-guilded rp'ers can work out just the bare bones of an idea for event(s) that they want to be public, or that they want another group or groups to interact with them on.

Recently I received a PM that I thought had some fantastics ideas for good vs. evil scenarios. Now I can PM these ideas to some folks that I think would be interested (and did), and get their opinions but that is only hitting a small group of people.

If we have one place to share ideas, get feedback, gauge interest, find out who is actually interested enough to go forward with it I think it might save time. In game meetings are great, but not everyone can attend, PM's and ICQ are great but by their nature are exclusive.

A neutral forum might also allow more parties to become interested and involved, and I think it might also reflect well on our shard, for people looking for a place to rp.

Yeah, I kinda dread another forum myself, but then I think how convenient it would be to be able to check it from work, and post from work, or late at night when I should be sleeping and most sane folks already are

It won't be a cure all for everything, and it may have it's bad as well as it's good, but I think its a good place to start building some bridges.

I believe it is a great idea. Some people would like to understand more about roleplay and how to go about it.

For instance soon after I had started playing UO, I came across a fellow who was a bard and smoked a pipe. I've seen others use the pipe smoking idea, and I even addapted it to use with my woodcutter.

Others tip their hats in gesture, while orcs curse and act rude.

Simple ideas such as that can make a "personality," (ingame) cliche as it may seem.

Hey if you don't try you don't know.
Failure is not in not being succesful, it's in the not trying at all.

Sorry I just got to reading this! In technical sense I already am . If you mean by leading discussion, I'm not sure I'm experienced enough as an RP leader to do so. I'll gladly join in the discussions though.
