Search for the Carapace Crusher

Thread posted on Sunday, November 12, 2006, 8:16 PM EST by Ishtar (Atlantic)

Carefully I made my way into Lord British's Castle and asked among the crowd what was going on, where a gentleman responded, "I do not know. We are watching the fish." Looking around the room, right near the throne there was, indeed a fish which was "fully prepared and spiced and would take about an hour to cook." At another glance moments later, "this fish has less than half an hour to be fully cooked." From the crowd I could see the curiosity brewing.

A while later looking back at the fish,"this fish should take about 15 minutes to fully cook." The crowd grew bigger and so did the anticipation. I could hear the rustling and people starting to get restless all the while looking back at the fish waiting to see what happens. Off to my left I noticed, Sherry the Mouse made an appearance and greeted a man named Jerry and then quietly disappeared again.

The crowd seemed to get a bit excited,"the fish is almost ready!" Thinking to myself, it was about time. I looked back up, and the fish was gone. A man walked in, Lord Victor Holmgren, the commander of the royal guard. I moved closer to hear him, and he began to talk about the Trinsic invasion.

Apparently there may be something to push back the horrible arachnid vermin that have been infiltrating the city. Texts have been discovered, seemed to mention sepcial slaying weapons used in centuries past. He asked all assembled to help find this secret cache of special spider slayers. He told us they could be found on a large beach in Ilshenar. He did inform the gathering that he sent people ahead, and it appears to have been located, but he warned of unforseen dangers that may come to pass.

We hastily made our way to the compassion shrine in Ilshenar and through a gate found ourselves upon the beach. The chest was empty when we found it , however hope is not lost. It appeared there was something buried beneath. Lord Holgrem began to dig. Once he started, spiders seemed to appear from out of nowhere, as if they just sprouted from the ground.

After a bit it seemed something was found because blood elementals began to appear like the spiders along with acid elementals. After a large battle, the monsters seemed to disappear as fast as they came. Lord Holmgren discovered a bag which may be the elusive the cache. Upon inspection they appeared to be hammers, but were stuck beneath the chest.

With the first tug, ancient wyrms as well as balrons and numerous other hideous creatures, began to come from everywhere and nowhere. I had to make myself invisible to avoid the crossfire and imminent death. The intensity of the fighting continued. Then all of a sudden, all was quiet. The beach was strewn with the corpses of both friend and foe. The battle was won, but not completely. Most of the cache was looted by the dire creatures driven back by the heroic adventurers.

Everyone gathered what they could and the trek was made back to Lord British's Castle. Before the crowd Lord Holgrem held one of the hammers, a Carapace Crusher. From what I could see, the weapon would most definitely make the arachnids of Trinsic flee or die. Not all the weapons were retrieved in one piece, some were broken and we know not if they can be repaired.

The discontent among the crowd made it known, not all were happy with the results. Very few of these weapons were recovered. Lord Holgrem said it was possible more may be recovered, but made no promises. Some began to shout out how they felt cheated. I could only watch as Lord Holmgren left to find a smithy and the crowd was left most unhappy.

Soon, Lord Holgrem reappeard and the crowd gathered again, still most upset. He began to make his way outside and we followed walking through Britain and the to the road that led to Minoc. The trip was long and tedious. All of us arrived at The Barnacle, a tavern in the city. Where Lord Holgrem announced that the hammers may, indeed be repairable. Murmurs from the crowd did not sound hopeful. Once again, we made our way back to the castle after the announcement. Lord Holgrem seemed to vanish and those who were left grew more angry at the event that had just passed.

With a "sigh", I tucked my quill away and made my way out, with nothing but my story. I felt helpless, because I could understand the frustration among everyone. On my way outside,I met a man named Gimper who was most upset. He stated he believed this to be a pre-quil of more to come. I do hope he is right and wish him luck in all his endeavors. I hope for all the valiant that attended that the next event is more fruitful.

Hehe after the barnacle Victor led us on a long trek north to Minoc where he simply put his feet up on the bar and ordered a round of drinks for everyone. It was funny seeing the typos in his text as he answered various questions along the way...methinks the dev behind the scenes may have been on a bar tour already

Hehe I missed this event. But I must say, Victor plays the bar loving commander very well. I went the last time he went bar hopping, all I remember was the long walk... hehe

Re: Search for the Carapace Crusher

My only gripe is that Trinsic isn't being invaded by Arachnids... The only Spider-kin in the lot are scorpions and spiders themselves. Getting an arachnid slayer wouldn't (shouldn't) help kill beetles of any sorts.
