Ever wonder where the term California stop (rolling through a stop sign intersection instead of stopping) came from?

One day, right near Hollywood, a state trooper was sitting near an intersection monitoring traffic and a guy in a BMW rolls through the stop sign and continues on down the road.

The trooper, disgusted with this, pulls the man over.

When he gets to the car he says, "Do you know why Im pulling you over sir?"

"No." the man replies.

"You didnt come to a complete stop at that tintersection back there."

"Oh," says the man, a bit confused. "But I slowed down..."

The trooper reaches in the car window, pulls the man out and starts beating him with his nightstick.

After he hit him about a dowzen times, the trooper stands back and asks "Do you want me to stop or slow down?"


Funniest part: The joke was told to me by the MA state trooper that gave me my driving test!

I got that in an email not too long ago. I thought it was pretty cute. In the version I got, the guy was a 'smart alec lawyer' (no meanness intended... that's what my version said...) Either way, it certainly shows the difference in coming to a stop or simply slowing down. :cheesy:
