Hi guys I was just wondering if any of you were as shocked at this weeks episode of Wife Swap on ABC. Get this one family lives by a raw food philosophy that includes raw beef and chicken, spoiled cheese and un-pasteurized milk. They brush their teeth with a mixture of home made honey-butter and clay and only shower on occasion, as "bacteria is their friend ." I just want to know am I the only one who is freakedout by this or what.By the way the Haigwood Fam. The raw meat eaters They dont send there kids to School or home school them ok my question is that legal in the USA? I didn't see that, but EW! Haven't these people ever heard of food poisoning? RAW chicken? Screw that. I don't care how much they paid me, I wouldn't eat raw chicken.

no that is not normal, hopefully this will now bring children's aid into the picture or the health system to remove those children. I'm not american but canadian and that is totally not legal. If you child does not go to school in canada you can home teach them but you need documentation and authorization. You can't refuse to not send your child to school. Not sure of your laws, but here you'd be in trouble. As for the raw food, I'm sure their bodies are used to it since they know no difference. Their bodies probably have adapted to that kind of live style. I know if that was here the children would be removed and put in a foster home so they were properly fed, bathed and schooled. It's wrong lets hope this show helps those children.

I don't watch the show, so I'm not going to pass judgment on the parents. As far as I'm aware, it is illegal to keep your children home without educating them, however, I'd guess this varies from state to state. I have seen my share of schools abusing, demeaning, and brainwashing children, so their decision to keep their children out of public schools doesn't seem unreasonable. Beyond that, like I said, I didn't watch the show, so I have no idea the children's situation.

As far as the raw food goes.. I don't see a problem with it. there is a difference between unsanitary and raw. there have been many people who have contracted salmonella from eating contaminated food, even if it was cooked. Beyond that, the human body can build up a remarkable tolerance to many different things. I suppose it depends on what system of medicine you prescribe to.

In the end, the show is probably scripted anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it too much

Actually I wasn’t as concerned over there raw meat diet.
I was more concerned over the unsanitary conditions of there home. The mildew all over the walls, pee stained rugs as per the animal being inside the home such as sheep and goats also as too the children not attending school and to the fact that the parent of the children quote “love bacteria” and don’t wash. Also as per there own admission the children work ten hour days on there isolated farm. Actually I have sent an e-mail to ABC and got a responses saying that they have receive too many e-mails and can’t answer them all. So I hope some one has at least called some form of social worker to look into this family. It is concerning that this can happen in the USA .

I agree, if its real.. it is a sad situation.. as i said, i don't watch the show, so those details I was unaware of. unfortunatly, there are still parts of the US that are like this. Its sad, esp when we are spending billions abroad..
