Question from a new player

Greetings fellow adventurers,

I just ordered the latest edition of UO from EB, it shipped yesterday, and I hope to join you in Britannia soon this week. I have never played Ultima Online before, although I am slightly familiar with the game, and woud appreciate advice from more seasoned veterans.

I hope to play as an archer (my absolute favorite class in any RPG) with some magical ability. I intend on doing quite a bit of adventuring, but I also intend on quite a lot of PvP.

Do any of you have suggestions in placing the skills for a well-balanced archer that I would find enjoyable to play?

(If possible, I would also like to mix a bit of magic into my archer's arsenal)

Hi lecter welcome to UO, I just started an archer too. Dont have too much to say but chivary works very well with archery. Chivary are paladin spells so that can be your blend of magical abilities

Welcome to UO. The learning curve can be quite steep, so don't hesitate to seek answers here on the forums to any questions you might have. I'll leave the template advice to those who are better at that sort of thing, but bendavho's advice is a good place to start.

For archer w/ magic it depends on the magic type Magery, Necro, or Spellweaving possible templates are:

Temp 1:
Archery
Anat
Tactics
Chivalry
Spellweaving

Temp 2:
Archery
Magery
Eval Int
Med
Tactics

Temp 3:
Archery
Necro
Spirit speak
Meditatin
Tactics

Since you are new the Skill Cap will be 700 points to distribute. Without power scrolls Skill cap on respective skills is 100. You can put more skills on character and these are just the basics. The only problem that will come up is gettign a good spell channeling bow to go w/ Magery or Necromancy and keeping casting speed up. Magery or Necromany is the way to go as far as PvP. Build skills and experiment and ask questions here. Guys are forums are great w/ templates and they have tested the ones they give out. There is much more to explain but I did not want to get too overwhelming. Good luck, welcome to UO and I hope NOT to get whacked by you anytime soon....lol
