Magery

Hey guys,

I need some help with Magery, what should I cast on to gain?

I have a -25 wand so it puts my magery to 60 and that let's me cast lower spells for gains, what should I cast on? I tried casting on some stuff and did not have much luck with gains, actually. I had no luck!

Do I need to buy 700 skill points first?

If you are asking what to target ("what should I cast on?") then cast on yourself.

If you are asking what to cast...

Magic Reflection 60.0 - 73.0 (or when gains noticeably slow down)
Invisibility - 73.0-85.0 (or when gains noticeably slow down)
Energy Field - 85.0 - 97.0 (or when gains noticeably slow down)
Earthquake - 97.0 - max.

Thanks Adam, I knew what to cast but as far as a target I was stumped, I cast on myself, a bottle, etc and NO gains.

you can cast on anything that is yellow I am pretty sure of. (boat key, yellow npcs, parrots, tiller men) I built magery up and necro up a few months ago for a new char, and I used my parrot in the house as the target. Man that parrot got a whoopin! haha..

Gaining in this skill is a PITA, at least I have a 100% LRC suit and a -25 magery wand, that helps....but not much.

You want to know the easiest way to gain magery? Get a spell channelling mage weapon, like a dagger, and go fight Boglings in Haven. They spawn 2 at a time, take a bit of bashing on and you can gain up to the mid 80's off them. With the right jewelry/mage weapon combo you can GM+ off them. You should use jewelry to get around 70 magery (while holding the mage weapon) and Boglings are about right. Keep your skill between 70 and 85 for the best gains.

I enjoy that myself because I have always preferred melee to magery for fun. I do play a few mages but enjoy monster bashing more.

OK well I am at 90.2, I guess I'll start casting energy field.

I always did the routine of casting 1 circle below where you are at until you hit the next tier, then move up a circle. Worked great for me everytime Ive trained magery, which is 4 times now.

Yeah i have always used the mage weapon technique.

At higher skill levels I found it to help a lot if I just cast EVs and then also attack the target with my mage weapon once the monster is tied up by the vortexes. Doing this at Miasma is nice as you get loot and the occasional minor arti in the process, and end up casting LOTS of EVs.

This being in the 110-120 skill range that is.
