I know, taste id is a useless skill, but i have this flea-brained idea to get all skills gm'ed. Then Wilki adds more fuel to my fire by mentioning brewing fine ales as a nice incentive to "taste my concoctions". I already have gm in cooking, poisoning, and alchemy skills soul-stoned in the event I get to be a virtual sommelier/fine dining connoissuer.
Has anyone been able to get above 75 in this skill lately? I've tried stacks of poisoned fishsteaks and kegs of potions. It's been over 72 hours since my last gain and i only have 417.5 real skill points used. And yes the taste id arrow is pointing up!

I am with you! I just gmed item id last night and boy does "Grandmaster merchant" in my paperdoll look sexy. I was going to finish armslore hopefully today or tomorrow and then start itemd id.. so if you figure anything out let me know.

Have you tried different levels of poison?
Granted it is target based, but it could have been changed and would anyone really have noticed?

4.) Q: How do I raise skill?

A: Taste ID is simple to raise, simply taste all potions and foods. Taste ID is target based so once you get a gain all your targets reset.

First you need to get 100 poisoned fishsteaks (preferably lesser poison) and place them in columns within a backpack so you are able to target all of the steaks. Then start at the beginning and taste ID every fishsteak until you get a gain, then start at the beginning again.

You will be able to raise your skill into the mid-high 60's just on those 100 fishsteaks. Once you go through all of those fishsteaks without a gain you need to make another bag with 100 poisoned fishsteaks and start going through them. Again, when you get a gain go back to the beginning of the first bag and work your way through them all again.

Below 72 Taste ID there is a good chance you will get poisoned from raising Taste ID. I recommend going to any shrine (preferably without any spawn) and when you get poisoned double click on the Ankh and the poison will be removed. This is much more efficient and cheaper than either casting cure or drinking a cure.

Just a quick FYI for that guide Adam posted Shrines no longer cure. Thus you should have some orange petals with you.

How were you training to gain skill to get up to that point?

I am just messing with a stack of two regular (non poisoned) cheese wheels and am gaining pretty well through 50, not sure if its going to change or not though.

There was a change a while back that made it impossible to gain taste ID past 75.
Now with the advent of satyr barding I am not sure that is still the case but I do know from about ~UOTD to UOML you couldn't gain past 75.
I have have a GM taste ID character from way back but I haven't tried since then, this is information I got from stratics.

Ok it's another day and still no gain. I've put in "an ask a question" requesting a confirmation if taste id is indeed capped or not, and if it will ever be fixed if it is capped as we all suspect. Still awaiting a reply from EA.

As far as how I've been training, I've lesser poisoned around 1100 fishsteaks and just randomly take 1 - 5 steaks from the pile and taste id them, then drop 'em into a little container. When I finish with the 1100, I open the container and take them out and repoison them and do it all over again. I've also tried making piles of 100 fishsteaks and poisoning each pile, and id'ing a few at a time from the different piles, dropping the sampled steaks into my container(thank goodness they stack!). I have tasted every keg of potion that I own as well.

I will try some greater poisoned and dp'ed fishsteaks when I have someone that can cure me, (maybe this weekend). Arghhh more karma loss from making the greater poison pots in my future.

Flutter, can you please explain how to do the satyr thing?

I will try that then to gain in taste id tomorrow. I took a break when I hit 60 taste id to train a bit of herding and its been gaining so well for me I kinda forgot I was going to try and bring taste id up to the 75 mark today. >_<
