Cool dah... Hi!

Hello all,

Sorry if I'm in the wrong place, but I'm new here and in a bit of a dilema...

I am 100% newbie... and I am sooo lost.

I've played a lot of the mmo's out today, and none of them appeal to me like UO does. So far, I am enjoying myself, but needless to say, this game is not very newbie friendly.

Most of my time is spent wondering around outside of town, looking for things to kill. But I can't seem to kill... anything.

I can't seem to figure out what to do next, where to hunt, all the jazz...

So, I was wondering if there is anyone out there that would be willing to give a newbie a hand? Or perhaps, any guilds on Legends that would accept new players?

I'm not asking for free money, or free gear or anything, I'm just mostly looking for some guidance, possibly a friend or to, as well.

Again, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.

Thanks!

Re: dah... Hi!

This is the perfect place to put this...I know we have a few Legends players I am sure they will step in and help you!

Feel free to ask any questions...lots of folks here to help.

A good place to start hunting is the Despise dungeon. It's pretty newbie friendly, but you'll need some help finding it probably.

Also just hanging around and killing lower level creatures like Mongbats will give you a little experience.

Where have you been spending most of your time? Give us a little background on what you've been up too and we'll see if we can help!

Re: dah... Hi!

Thanks for the reply!

Ya, I really have no idea where Despise is.

Well, lets see.. I started a Samurai, and I started in ... whatever the starter town is called for a Samurai. d: .. sorry I forget the name. After hanging around that place for a good few hours, not really doing anything, I found a blue portal thingy, went into that and ended up in a place called Haven. Now I'm wandering around here, killing the lizard people near the portal.

A question: Is is not possible to stack gold? I have two piles in my inventory and I cant seem to combine the two.. hrm.

Again, thanks for the reply. I appreciate it.

Re: dah... Hi!

Haven is a good place for starter players. There is even a little place you can go thru a mountain and kill off things like mongbats and horde minions. There is also a new player quest in there too.

Re: dah... Hi!

I'm not sure what the issue could be with the gold. It should stack in piles up to 60,000 each, just by dropping it on the stack sitting in bank or bag or where ever.

Haven is a great place to be starting out. It has almost everything you can use to get your character started out. You can go 'bunny whacking' if nothing else. Stay near town as you begin, so you can get back inside to safety and to deposit your meager earnings. You can sell the leather you get from any creatures to the Tanners. Not the spined or other fancies.. just the plain leather. You can also shear sheep by double clicking on a bladed weapon and then targeting a nearby sheep. then you can either spin the wool into yarn then make cloth on the loom, or sell it to the tailor as is for ready gold.

I know others will have more ideas for you, those are VERY new player oriented. Doing the quests offered to you can net you some handy quick gold and gain you experiences too. I advise you try some of those. Even as a veteran player, I often visit Haven just to get my leather or do my banking. I am not sure how populated it is on Legends, as I play Lake Superior, but since there is a handy moongate it is an excellent stopping off spot. The only thing it seems to be missing in my opinion is a stable. You can tame your own ride there with a little effort though. The main skills are trainable there fairly easily for young players.

Welcome to UO and May your experiences be 99.99% good ones!

Re: dah... Hi!

The deal with the gold I believe is ....part of it is the 1000 gold you started with as a new player and other pile of gold is what you have made since on your own ie: from corpses or selling stuff.
I don't believe your new gold will stack properly with your newbie starting gold...I think this also happens with newbie reagents not stacking with the gotten regs. I could be wrong since I haven't made a new char to check it out for sure hehe.
And its good advice to stick around haven for a bit since there are usually guilds that frequent Haven looking for new players to help out.
Also be sure to read the skills section on the boards there is a newbie guide wrote up there. Read as much as possible from the question area too.
UO does have a steep learning curve at first...but you love it for it's depth.

Keep asking your questions! No fear, if noone knows the answer, someone will certainly know where to look to find it for you.

and welcome to UO!

Re: dah... Hi!

I have a guild on legends. We accept new players and young ones all the time. We would be most pleased if you would like to join us. We have our own map server and use Ventrilo to speak to each other.

We never ask for gold from our mates, nor do we demand items, we just desire to have a good time. We have a new player now in Haven as well, Noel is her name as well as Killzone, who has just been able to leave Haven and futher his expolits.

We have our own web site at Defying legends. You are more then welcome to join us, at present we have 5 members. We are a new guild and all try hard to help each other.

We have a public guild house that we allow memebrs to access, with basic items needed to explore and see the world. I have been UO for 5 years now myself.

I would be pleased to havce futher contact with you if you are instered at all. I am on from 6pm EST till approx 12 or 01 in the am.

Re: dah... Hi!

Oh, plus, most people use ICQ to communicate with each other since there is no real in-game way of keeping in touch. If you don't have that, you may want to get it.

Re: dah... Hi!

Lots of good players here to give you advice, as you can see from above.

Remember you can also create an additional 4 or 5 characters to mess around with.

Definatly get ICQ, if you do, you can chat to friends you make in the game.

I'd recommend using www.trillian.cc (No ad's and isn't a slow and cumbersome as the original ICQ client)

Re: dah... Hi!

thanks all for the responses.
Great advice, I appreciate it. I checked out some of the skill section boards and they cleared up a lot of confusion.

Things are going a lot smoother now.

Thanks again.
