Re: Worst loss of a rare ever?

Yah it wasnt soo smart of me, but they were worthless cloaks and shirts, which I dont care to wear anyways, yah someone found something they knew would be worth something, but to me it wasnt sooo bad since I would have never worn it anyways, it doesnt help me in combat anyways...

Re: Worst loss of a rare ever?

I quit UO about a year ago (last July) and gave away my house (at Yew Moongate) full of arties, armor, etc. In the end I gave away about 30-40 arties (carapice, etc), several +25 stat scrolls, powerscrolls galore, and several million gold to some good friends.
I ended up returning to UO last may and these "friends" gave me a 100k loan that they expected me to pay back.

Who needs enemies when you have friends?

Re: Worst loss of a rare ever?

I've always said there's a difference between a real life friend, and someone you call friend on the internet. Most people on the internet are just selfish pricks. It's not hard to put up a facade of friendship on the net, as opposed to doing it in real life.

Re: Worst loss of a rare ever?

language language!! this is a family friendly forum here!!

Not everyone on the net is that way tho, I have developed a few close friendships through the net and UO. When I was stationed overseas, and in the desert, thats where you find out if people are true friends or not. I had RL friends promise to send me jokes and stuff through email....not 1 joke during the time I was deployed. Now some internet friends, I got lotsa stuff sent, even if they were just a quick note to see if everythings goin ok..

I disagree
My best friend is someone who I met on the internet (Through this forum actually) and my trust in him is absolute.

One thing I learnt, and it did take a few years, is who you call a friend and you don't.
Since then, I haven't been burnt many times, although you allways make mistakes with some people, who use information you share with them against you, when or if you do fall out.
But you live and learn.
You need to find true friends Venner.

Re: Worst loss of a rare ever?

I have now. I actually have a nice group of friends now who have repeatedly stuck their necks out for me and helped me get back on my feet. Just wishing I had my rares back

Re: Worst loss of a rare ever?

I was just generalizing. Everyone's experience really is different. Real life friends can stab you in the back just as easily as an internet friend, it's just more common place to not be able to establish a connection on the web than in real life, atleast from what I have personally seen. However, in this day and age it doesn't surprise me that you guys find people you can trust on the web. I have that as well back in the days of counterstrike with my old clan mates, even though I haven't met any of them. We still keep in touch through our forum and play fantasy sports together even though our CS'ing days are over. Either way, as long as you can realize its just material goods and get over it that's all good and done

Re: Worst loss of a rare ever?

Lost a rare - account

By a one day blunder missed that my CC wasn't updated. Oddly too that they had been billing for several months but then just stopped.

So I log in and my single account with a Large Tower, L-shape 2 story and two small houses all within one screen of each other are all "condemned"

Page GM and he tells me the time expired yesterday!

That was even worse than losing a one shot kill heavy xbow. back in (99?)

Had dropped it in a chest at the guild tower to swapped to another char and low and behold the server warped overnight to exactly inbetween the trade.

An unscrupulous guildie and a friend just happen to get there before I did and ripped it off.

Bleh one thing I've learned in 9 years. You're going to lose and gain things over time. Just try not to sweat the losses too much.

Re: Worst loss of a rare ever?

I runed in to Cove bank loaded down with top end rares to restock my Luna vendor on the first day of the orc invasion and died before I finished recalling in. No way to get my body back. Probably lost somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 mil worth of stuff. Still can't think about it without getting cranky.

Re: Worst loss of a rare ever?

Well I got you all beat on the rare though it was the right thing to do. I had a friend that bought a castle off ebay. He was cleaning stuff out at a guild meeting one night. I returned 2 days later to find a "pewter bowl" still sitting in middle of the room {it did not decay or disappear at server start.} So, i picked it up and held onto it til I saw him and told him to keep it, because I looked it up on Markee Dragon and it was a server startup rare, i set it in my locked house for 2 days to verify. Only one per shard it was part of the decorations at startup that acciedentaly wasnt locked down. So, it was probably the rarest thing in the game. UGGGGGhhhh.. He's no longer in the game so no telling what happened to it. Doing the right thing is painful.

And one other. I had an Armor of Fortune. And quit the game 2 yrs ago and gave it to a guy at bank. He was nice enough to try and give it back he said man your gonna come back everyone does. Well he was tight and I was worng and oooohh I mis that AoF and the suit I made to go with it.
