Here's a collection of screenshots I've saved up over the years. I go through these when I need ideas

Re: In need of design help

Near the dead forest... I would probably go with the black bricks to fit in with the area, but that is just me and I don't have mondain's legacy on my account... kinda wish I did, but that is a different subject. I am guessing with the 18x16 you have access to three + fourth floors. One big step is to decide your building material of choice and to determine how much inside space you actually care to have. Some like one big building, some like several small buildings or a mixture of medium/small on the one property.

There are so many decisions to make and other than browsing house pictures posted on the web you can run around populated housing areas and check out other designs and "borrow" ideas. I have gone through a good 10+ first floor designs and I still haven't settled on one that I like. One big tip is... open areas in the middle without a roof prevent you from being able to only view that floor while not under a roof. It made my center courtyard of my keep very very poor design as I couldn't see my stairs/surrounding areas on the first/second floor. Another issue to watch for is that you cannot have an archway go from east to west directly from a wall as there are no pieces to properly do so, so don't go in with one planned as such, it has to have a wall to be placed up against or you need to have multiple archways connected or leave a small hole.

These thoughts probably don't help you at all, for which I am sorry, but they are some things I have had issues with on larger designs. People generally place the main building in the northwest corner for a reason, I just didn't know why until I ran into these issues myself.

Was that your original design? (If so let me know how you'd like to be credited - I've got that posted on the front page of that set of houses). (edit - I have that stated on the front page of my set of house ideas - didn't realize you pulled this from the set of houses I built. I added a note to indicate that most of my houses are based on design ideas from elsewhere. Still, if you'd like credit, let me know and I'll gladly list you as the author of the inspiration house). /end edit

It should be a compliment!! I needed a design that would support a large patio for vendors, and redesigned that house so I could use it for vendors since I liked the house so much! I needed a layout though where the far northeast corner was open patio space, thus the red arrows as I tried to explain to somebody what I was trying to do
