X-sharding rare items
source taken from UO.UHall
I understand the value of Xsharding so don't get me wrong in the following. I've been looking for weeks for what used to be considered a fairly lame weapon (Serpant's Fang) on Napa. Gee where have they all gone? Once they were simply everywhere, but now nobody's seen one for a very long time. What about Crimsons, Staff of the Magi's, Orny of the Magi...and the list goes on. I'm sure nobody really wants to hear this, but I think that the ongoing xsharding is problematic for regular players looking to stay on their own shard and still be effective. Due to xsharding, the remaining items on the shard get massive values where the sky is the limit (seen a 80 million dollar crimson cinture yesterday...the only one seen). Adding to that are some true server birth rares and other specialty items that were shard specific which have now been moved to other shards where people had more money and population. It's a thriving business for players. I respect every players effort to make billions, but don't you think some things should be off limits, or at least have strings attached? My suggestion in short is to place a 1 month account specific tie between xsharded items and the xsharding account. That insures that players who really wanna move shards can still do so without interrupting their gameplay, but players who are just making tons have to do so with some stipulations. My 2 cents. and shees we have beaten down this path enough times already. Why not limit your real life travel as well say once per month you are allowed to leave your city for another one. Or better yet, follow the previous poster once every 3 months. Number of items per shard especially respawnable ones from hunting is directly related to the shard's population and how often they are being farmed. If you see a crimson for 80 mil on your home shard, wouldnt you want to buy a transfer token and head to atlantic or something and buy a crimson for 20-25 then come back? Wouldn't that be even cheaper than spending 80 on your home shard? and RTLFC... Yea... i'm about tired of this nonsence as well. Get over it all ready and find something else to do in the game other than complain. Xsharding is a way of life for some of us... I mean why dont' we remove PvP, or Factions, Or Role Playing or anything else... I tell you why... becasue ppl like it use it and have fun doing it. If its not for you then leave it be. and Quote:
I guess you missed the part where I was being respectful... Why is it that on every thread there is a person like you who cannot debate a subject intelligently? You must resort to bashing rather than simply stating your position on the subject? I certainly didn't bash xsharding, or the people that do it. So in something which is a little more to your stylism of conversation "bugger off you little snot nosed brat, and get a real job that doesn't involve playing games all day". and ... I maintain that the purpose of x-sharding was NOT based on trade, but in the restarting your character on a new shard without the need to recreate from scratch. It now is being misused via x-shard trading. Time delays really mean nothing, what needs to happen is a severe limitation on what is allowed to be removed from a given shard and taken to another. I've gone back and forth in my hed what level of restriction from a death-robed character supplied with only the skills and stats they have achieved, to a very small list of transferable items. The items that should be allowed should be basic clothing, vet rewards, special promo items, a limited gold amount, and MAYBE a house placement tool assuming that a house is demolished on the home shard. Beyond that, there's not much that I can justify being transferred. I'm not trying to punish those trying to make a few gold pieces, but there IS a good bit of damage being done to the game because of their actions, and if the game is planning to continue along the event-driven path it is following, then preventing x-sharding from screwing up the possible outcomes of the events is paramount and simply more important than a few players' profitability. and Wilki UO Community Coordinator Quote:

Re: X-sharding rare items
Sorry, if you allow people to transfer, then you must let transfer of goods stand. I'm not about to leave 9 years worth of pixel "stuff" behind me. X-sharding of things such as gold, scrolls, and desirable items is now just part of the game. Some even role play such transfers, believe it or not.

Re: X-sharding rare items
I agree Eowyna
If they were concerned about the transfer of unique items from one shard to another, they should've built the transfer system to take that into consideration and block any/all event items from being transfered ![]() ![]() DiP: They call me twinkletoes. Re: X-sharding rare items
Then the transfer system should be changed. I have no idea which of my fellow players on Napa began that thread (as I don't get over to Stratics too much if I can help it) but they made some very valid points.
Everyone wants to whine whine gripe about item insurance "ruining the economy". Everyone wants to whine whine gripe about items not breaking "ruining the economy". Those are a few drops in a cistern compared to how completely _shot_ the economy is on lesser populated shards. Shard transfering shouldn't have to become part of our playstyles just to be able to find powerscrolls, runics, rares, artifacts, recipes, rewards, resources and everything else the travelling carnies are sucking up like a bunch of vampires. Not only that, but..gee..maybe if all the EM event items weren't able to be transferred, there wouldn't be such a huge problem right now with them all being duped about a thousand times over. It's a problem. A serious problem. Regardless of what the indignant U'All (y'all) crowd wants to believe. Add a few lines to the box that say "Exciting and powerful discoveries & riches await you, for only $20 per transfer" if you're going to suggest _transferring_ needs to be a part of a normal player's gameplay. |

Re: X-sharding rare items
I don't intend to engage in a debate here. That's for Uhall. I just stated my opinion.

Re: X-sharding rare items
Regardless of what ppl think, shard event items do not belong to the shard. They belong to the person who recieved them, and if they choose to sell that item, then so be it. If the item belonged to the shard, it would become apart of the terrain or placed in a museum for all to see. I will continue to buy up all shard event items, rares and anything that interests me and transfer back to my home shard. Once they are in my possesion, I am free to do with them as I wish. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
