Hmmm. wounder if there will be a lockdown proficiency! we need a lockdown proficiency so when people leave we can get their stuff and have more room to lock it down!

Re: Will You Leave UO Because of the Proficiency System?

Since proficiencies are per character that would turn out a nice little fiasco... so you up your lockdown prof on a character, then lock down tons of new stuff in your house... then you log out and get on a char who doesn't have the proficiency and whoops, bye bye lockdowns!

Burglars would love it though! Sadly since it wouldn't require using the stealing skill on players but merely picking up items, thieves would still gripe

Re: Will You Leave UO Because of the Proficiency System?

Not if my house had the proficiency! I could take it out to other peoples houses that are quiting and train it up by gatehring thier stuff...oops its item based I'll just get a door and window with lockdown proficiencies ya that would do it!

Oooh, house proficiencies... now we're really getting somewhere.

"Spaciousness"
"Aesthetic"
"Swiftly renovated"
"Master of collapsing"

... I think we're really on to something with this.

Coming up next, pet proficiencies. "Housebroken", anyone?

Well i always found it odd they never had a "Riding" Proficiency for being able to ride at a full gallop - much less fight from your mount without risk of unceremoniously tumbling onto the mud. I won't even imagine what kind of skill it would take to ride a dragon with a jagged razor spine.

I suppose with all of the animals being ridden into people's houses, temples and shops the 'housebroken' bonus would be highly sought after too.

*laugh* That was classic!

I always thought it was wierd that you could ride a horse right in to your bedroom or in to the middle of a tavern. I wish they'd initiate a boundary where you rubber banded off of exterior steps of a home or open the door to a public establishment with the message "You must dismount before entering"... I understand people have customized "Stables" in their homes but that's some that could be addressed seperately. Perhaps a Stable addon for a signifigant price added to the customization menu.. nothing like an NPC stable, but tiles which mounts were allowed to walk on.

Re: Will You Leave UO Because of the Proficiency System?

Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing. Always bugged me how mounts are ridden all over the place, would add to the atmosphere if we had to dismount to enter shops, banks etc.

Back when I started out I used to take off my helm and sheath my weapons whenever I rode into a town. It just felt like the appropriate thing to do. Dismounting when going into a building is a similar thing, it just makes sense.

Of course that was back in the day when I still had this fallacy that people actually roleplay in UO...

But I like to watch my horsey climb the rope ladder:grin: he has rope ladder climbing proficiencies

In case you have not noticed I think this quiting over a future change thing is quite silly. Like all things in life you just don't know how cold the water is until you actually jump in. who knows it may be quite nice.

Re: Will You Leave UO Because of the Proficiency System?

Right after I quit driving cause they changed the speed limit on a road I travel, or put in a stopsign or traffic light. Or stop eating cause a favorite resturant closed, or changed themes, or owners, or names.

Change happens! We can either adapt and keep on, or just drop dead in a tantrum.

UO and life is forever evolving. I think if people want static, same'ol same'ol crap over and over again, then play a console game, or some standalone game. If we can't change or adapt with progress, then its not worth it to keep going right?

So, if people wanna quit because of change, then good. More bandwidth for me on the servers. I get so ill with all the "I'm quitting" cause xxx or yyy or zzz comes in. People make those weak threats, cause they are weak in adapting to change.

UO and Life will continue without them, so I generally ignore them.

Answer: No, I don't think I'll be quitting. I look at the changes as a challenge, and am prepared to adapt.
