What is the relationship between EA and Paypal?

Yesterday, a member of UOForums was asking a question about EA & Paypal.

Lo and behold,the very same question appeared here overnight

No idea if its our original poster,but it gives the answers needed.

I sent the amount of $75 to paypal@ea.com. Then I notified them using their customer support contact thingie. I haven't heard from them all day in regards to this issue. Granted I made an e-check payment.

Why did I do this? I wanted five Legacy Tokens, but Legacy Tokens isn't an option given on the outdated Pay-by-Cash page given by uogamecodes.com. This is discrimination! Why not let people without credit cards or bad credit pay for stuff?!?!!??! I will be calling EA about this issue if I don't get a response via email by tommorrow morning. I want those Legacy Tokens, dammit!

within 4 minutes,Jeremy had picked up on it.

Hang on, I'm confused - did you place an order first, or did you just send us money and then create a support ticket to tell us what to give you for it?

Oh, hi. Yes, I sent the money first. But only because, well, look at this.

I see: 30 day game code, etc., ML upgrade, blah blah, blah... but no "Legacy Token" tab. I'm not sure the 8th anni codes should even be there. And shouldn't there be a "Mondain's Legacy Buddy Program" instead of an AoS one?

Sorry. I'm just cranky. Nice of you to reply, Jeremy.

It's probably going to take us a while longer to process that, because Paypal isn't a supported payment method. (We're in the process of getting the new items up on paybycash - I'll look into an ETA for that.) If you haven't heard back in 24 hours, give 'em a ring.

An alternative method was given by a player from here in the UK

for future reference, an alternative payment method is the pre-paid cash card.
It works exactly like a credit card for making purchases from the net, but from our point of view is considerably safer since no bank details are ever required. It isn't linked to your bank account. I'd give you a link, but I'm in the UK, so if I google it I only get UK outlets.

A good point though was made by an ig friend of mine

But Jeremy, the annoying part of this is that PayPal used to be accepted without problem by EA - and suddenly, EA stopped, without telling any of their customers that they had stopped. That is what led to the problems I had last July, as in this archived thread.

"Currently, I've been trying to find out why there seems to be a problem with using PayPal to pay PayByCash, which according to EA is fine and certainly used to work as I used it many times to get gametime codes and in-game item offers. Suddenly, in April, it started getting rejected, and querying PayByCash about why, I was told :

"We're sorry, but at present we are unable to accept PayPal payments for this service. This restriction has been imposed by PayPal. Whether we accept PayPal in the future for this service will be dependent upon whether the content provider you're trying to pay for wishes to accommodate PayPal's evolving policies regarding what constitutes acceptable use of a PayPal account to sell goods or services"

I went back to both PayPal and EA to ask what was happening, PayPal said there was an issue they were discussing with EA but they hoped it could be resolved quickly. EA told me to use the Gamecodes site, choose PayByCash, and select PayPal from the options.... which was precisely what I had been doing, and indeed HAD to have been doing, for the things I was describing to them to happen...... so I wrote back to EA, and never received a reply.

Early June, I went back to PayByCash to ask what was happening, and was told:

" We are not going to be accepting PayPal for EA games from this point. Another customer had mentioned they had set up a payment through their own site, so you might want to check there. If you have any other questions, please let us know."

PayPal confirmed this, I contacted EA - and no reply.... so contacted them again, quoting the reference given on the automated acknowledgement on the first question, and - no reply.....

Tonight, I tried UOGamecodes again, and this time PayPal is no longer even an option on the list of payment methods that can be used for gametime - so clearly PayByCash have been telling me the truth. Sadly, EA have said nothing to their customers about this. I can only conclude that it was just too much effort for them to bother. "

EA should have told people, up front, what was going on. They did not, and left folks having to talk to all the other companies involved to try find out what was happening. Poor business practice, and lousy customer relations..... and there has to this day been no official explanation why EA reject PayPal, when they were happy accepting money through it for years.

~~~~~~~~~
Well at least the matter has been flagged now as being sorted out,as Jeremy confirmed.
(We're in the process of getting the new items up on paybycash - I'll look into an ETA for that.)
Oh? That's good. Looking forward to that one.
