UO for girls!

source taken from UO.UHall

Heya, ive been playing UO for 3 years now, and I enjoy it very much.

Genraly speaking I dont talk much about UO with my rl frields, because they just dont seem to understaind, espeshaly (sp) girls.

However the other day i had some of my girl friends around, and my computer was on with myself just banksitting. One of my friends was absently watching the screen and noticed people running around talking to each other. She asked what it was and i explained. All of a sudden I had 6 of my friends inthrawled (sp) in UO. I showed them a peerless and introduced them to many of my guildmates.

Within two hours, three of them started their own account, and have been playing since. This may have only been two weeks now, but they love it so far.

Bacicaly what im trying to say here, is that with a little advertizing im sure UO would be far more sucessfull. Im not sure how much its advertized in the US, but here in Auz its 0.

Anhoo, yay for me!

*waits for all my buddy rewards*

Well, here's my response to girls in UO... it seems as many men I know in rl, that play UO, there wives play almost as much. The whole reason I was "allowed" to get a second account was so my wife could have her own. (she seems to play an equal amount of guy and girl characters) And my 3 year old daughter (and my 5 mo. old daughter) like to sit and watch me play. "kill it daddy!!! kill it please!!!" but I don't think those two count for actually playing.

and

That's pretty good news One sees a lot of female characters in UO, but always at the back of the mind is what MMORPG "really" stands for:

Mostly Men Online Role Playing Girls

In fact, I know one guy who plays nothing but female characters. My point is, tell them to expect a bit of skepticism that they are actually women. Assuming, of course, that they aren't playing male characters

As far as advertising UO. Well they might do that more once the new graphics are in place. They are probably too embarrassed to advertise with the current 9 year old graphics.

CatHat UO Character/Environments Artist

Now if we only had more "feminine" things

With UO-KR in full production, we'll probably make a lotta people very happy. A lot of hard work going into this one to please both the ladies and gents..

Now - can somebody get me outta this dress? What? Oh, they tell me i have to wear it for research or something. What.. Why's everbody laughing?!?!

The things we do for you guys

A interesting thread wich goes completely off topic at one point, but as usual Cathat pwns the posts [ I really worry for his poor cat some times ,*grins* ]

Re: UO for girls!

I wonder about the lack of advertising myself... I picked up a magazine at work the other day "Massive". And the only mention in the whole 250 page magazine was a blurb about it being laggy and crashing once in a while. The rest of the mag was packed with ads for WoWs new expansion and various other mmorpgs.

Re: UO for girls!

Yeah I think they should keep a copy of UO on the shelves at all times in leading retailers like Walmart, Target, K-mart, all those places. If they don't keep it on the shelves how are people suppose to find out about it . Like the walmart in my hometown in ohio is considered one of the 3 largest in ohio, but yet they only carried UO Gold until is sold out and didn't re-order :/, what is the point of that. The games people see on the shelves is normally the games people will play imo, so if no UO is on the shelves how will we get new players and intrest in the game.

Re: UO for girls!

Hehe, the guild I just joined has a ton of women in it. Just the other night I went on a champ run with them. There were 12 of us that went, and only 2 of us were guys. We use a voicechat program to communicate so yea, they were all definitely women.

Re: UO for girls!

I think if they kept a least one copy of UO on the shelves at the leading retailers at all times it would prevoke more interest in the game. Cause when I go out looking for an Online game to play the first place I go is to a retail store in my area and see which ones are provided. Like right now you can purchase WoW, the Expansion, and even 30 to 90 day game time codes from the walmart in my area. So what do you think most people are going to play? The game that is easiest to access from thier local area.

Re: UO for girls!

Yup we found the game time cards as well.... The game (which we didn't buy) was heavy, kinda rasied the curiosity as to what it contained...

Re: UO for girls!

I havent seen UO on any shelves anywhere in England in so many yrs now. You used to see them on second hand game sellers shelves long ago before the shops realised that they cant resell the game due to the account code being used up

Re: UO for girls!

I have been playing for nearly 5 years now, and although I am not on as much as I used to be, (due mostly to family commitments) I am not ready to give it up, in the hope to get to play more regularly in the future.

It is always funny to me that people so often assume I am a guy, even in my 'sexiest' costumes... (We definitley don't look feminine enough in game!!) which leaves me correcting them as to my gender. Some are very surprised, others seem matter of fact. I have met a number of excellent female players over the years and two of my own daughters have played for over 2 years now. They too have RL issues that keep them off a lot, but keep their accounts paid up so they can get on when they feel like it. (Sometimes I wish we were only charged for time ON, but then I used to absolutely live there, so monthly is fine.)

The improvements to design and housing are something we women notice quickly, but that doesn't mean we don't get bloodthirsty sometimes too. Just remember we ARE here, and most likely will be around for as long as the guys, if not longer.
